  1. Update: Just completed a flight on DX11. I did all of the above mentioned activities suggested by cianpars and it worked. I assume the Nvidia cache was the culprit...
  2. Yes, it seems quite odd to me... Anyway, thank you for the hints, I will try to follow that any maybe also do a complete DDU re-install of the GPU drivers.
  3. Dear Pilots! For the last few weeks I have been experiencing regular crashes to the desktop with MSFS in the FNX A320, but interestingly these only occur in DX11. In DX12, there is no CTD. The crashes always happen after having loaded into the plane, mostly a few seconds or, at the longest, 2 or 3 minutes after having loaded into the cockpit. The sim directly crashes to the desktop, no error message on screen, only a crash dump is present (parts of this: see below). When starting the sim in the safe mode, it runs smoothly, no crashes regardless if I am using DX11 or DX12. Only when having all add-ons (see below as well) active, does the crash happen. I deactivated GSX to see if it helps, but to no avail. I fear that it is being caused by the Fenix A320, but there is no evidence for that. To sum up, the crash always happens when starting a flight in DX11 with all addons active. It does not crash when running in DX12, also there is no crash in DX11 when I deactivate the addons (safe mode). I am aware this is a known DX12 bug, but there is no solution for that. I would like to have the sim running in DX11 again. With all Addos active, that is. Anyway, this all happened after having installed the version 2 block 2, although I do not know if this update is the reason for the crashes. Anyway, the recent update from March 11 did not help to get rid of the CTDs. 4. Will try to sign out of Xbox/MS and then back in, will also monitor the download rate on the resource monitor during the next flight. Thanks for your replies!
  5. Dear fellow simmers! I love flying. Soaring through the skies, piloting my FBW A320NX through virtual clouds, from Airport to Airport, ideally controlled by VATSIM. But in the recent weeks, my excitement took a hit by undesired behavior of the sim. For reasons I do not know, the ground textures look afwul. Ths certainly was not the case before. It seems like MSFS does no longer use photogrammetry/satellite images to display cities, fields, rivers and forests, but rather dissapoints me by displaying offline/default landscapes. Of course I mostly fly IFR and the flying part itself is still a lot of fun, but looking out of the cockpit (or around/below the plane) leaves me in shock. What is going on? To let you know what I am talking about I created 2 albums with a couple of pictures showing the "before/good" and "after/bad" situation. All images were shot by me during the last few months, and the last few weeks have been the bad ones. I do not know what caused the change between before and after since I did not (knowingly) change anything. My rig: MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, 32 GB DDR4-3600, ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 Super 8GB (Geforce driver 471.41), Game installed on SSD. Cable/LAN connection. My MSFS graphics settings, which always have been like this. My online settings, which I also never changed. I even tried to erase the local rolling cache and update it, but that did not help in any way! Remark: When I start Xbox Network settings from the start menu, it always lets me know that "Teredo is unable to qualify", but when I click on "check again" it always returns "open" and "connected". In any case, neither do I know what Teredo is and if it play a role in all of this, nor do I know if there is a difference now to what was going on before since I never looked into this. Is there a way to force the sim to "show" me if data is being downloaded or if satellite images are being shown? I would like to see what is going on exactly. TL;DR: Since a few weeks, MSFS only displays the generic/default/offline ground textures and not the photogrammetry/satellite images, although I did not change the settings or alter my internet connection. Can you help me to get the sim to look like it did before? That would be greatly appreciated and I am really thankful for any advice! Your fellow pilot Nuke
  6. NBouc, Wow, thanks a lot for this detailed post. It exactly sums up what I face now, the only difference is that you own both systems and I have to decide which one to get since I have none now ;-) Right now I have a Intel Dual Core E2160 @ 1.80 MHz running together with a GeForce 8600 GTS. I always favored 3dfx/Nvidia over ATI/AMD and therefore would like to do the same now. I will most likely choose a GTX 580 or 680 since I have only space for one screen. I'll just wait for some of the GTX 680 custom designs (and price development). I still got some time since I will most likely wait for the i5-3570K and buy this CPU instead of the i5-2500K (if it's not toooo overpriced...) By the way: What about this issue with DX10 I read about? Does FSX have any issues with DX higher than 9?
  7. Maybe also one of these myths... They said that a SB does't have any issue with a 1600MHz RAM, it just doesnt support full rate. But since I am also buying 1600MHz RAMS now all will be fine, whichever CPU I will take. The Z77 board supports them all... Now I just have to increase my budget for a decent custom GTX 580 or 680 instead of the HD 7870...
  8. I think I'll switch to the 580W PSU and take 1600 MHz RAMs. But regarding the GPU: Would you suggest to buy a GTX 580 instead of a HD 7xxx? The 680 is still a bit expensive, but that's the case for almost any decent video card...
  9. Thanks a lot, mad dog, these are valuable answers. - Would you suggest to go for "the big deal" and take a GTX 680 or aim a little lower? - The PSU was considered ok by other "experts" but I was also thinking about a stronger one. Can't do any harm. - I wanted to buy 1600 MHz RAM if I would by an Ivy Bridge CPU since Sandy Bridges only support 1333 MHz. But, as for the PSU, bigger can't do any harm.
  10. I am just about to buy a new PC. I created a list of all parts, which looks like this right now: 1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 1500GB, SATA 6Gb/s (WD1502FAEX) 1 x Crucial m4 SSD 256GB, 2.5", SATA 6Gb/s (CT256M4SSD2) 1 x Intel Core i5-2500K, 4x 3.30GHz, boxed (BX80623I52500K) 1 x Kingston ValueRAM DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-10667U CL9 (DDR3-1333) (KVR1333D3N9K2/8G) 1 x Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 OC, 2GB GDDR5, DVI, HDMI, 2x mini DisplayPort, lite retail (11199-03-20G) 1 x ASRock Z77 Extreme4, Z77 (dual PC3-12800U DDR3) 1 x LG Electronics BH10LS38 schwarz, SATA, bulk 1 x Thermalright HR-02 Macho (Sockel 775/1155/1156/1366/AM2/AM3/AM3+/FM1) 1 x Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Black & White Edition (RC-692A-KKN5-BW) 1 x be quiet! Straight Power E9 CM 480W ATX 2.3 (E9-CM-480W/BN197) 1 x Microsoft: Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit inkl. Service Pack 1, DSP/SB, 1er Pack (deutsch) (PC) (GFC-02054) 1 x Microsoft: Office 2010 Home and Student (deutsch) (PC) (79G-01904) I want to be able to play the newest games on my 24" 1920x1200 screen, which I will keep. In addition, I desperately want to play FSX with high details and high FPS. Right now, on my existing computer, i reach 6fps when on final to EHAM (Mega Airport Amsterdam), which is unbearable. I was almost about to buy my new components as listed above, when (in another forum) a user told me not to buy an AMD GPU because FSX was programmed to run on NVidia! Can anyone confirm this? Would there be any issue with the HD 7870 OC? Or is this an "issue from the past"? What would you recommend? Thanks for any reply! Nuke
