  1. Hey there, I was wondering if anybody could help me. I've been without a PC since July when my computer died of some sort of horrible motherboard related ailment. It wasn't particularly great but I could run FSX with numerous addons at around 20fps on average. The addons I used included PMDG 737 NGX, REX, MyTraffic etc. Anyhow, I've not been able to afford anything decent since then and using the web on my phone plus a total lack of FSX time has really started to bug me. I'll have around £1000 spend (give or take) in a couple of weeks time and the only thing on my shopping list is a replacement. Initially I looked at pcspecialist.co.uk as my previous computer came from them and they generally seem to receive good reviews and beat the high street in terms of price. However, looking at their gaming PCs I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at and what would really be powerful enough for a more seemless FSX experience this time around. I've also considered the Alienware Aurora R4 at base level, but I'm not sure if it's good value. The base model includes: Intel Core i7-3820 four core 10MB Cache at 3.60GHz, 8GB of DDR3 at 1600MHz, a 1TB 6Gb/s HDD (probably a little bigger than I actually need but it's the cheapest option) and a 1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. Significantly more powerful than my last machine but is it good enough, particularly in the GFX department? Any advice would be much appreciated! It's just occurred to me that this is in the wrong section. I dunno if a mod can move it to general hardware discussion or something. Apologies!
  2. Sorry about that, and thanks for moving it to the appropriate section.
  3. Hey there, I was hoping for some general advice in terms of upgrading my PC for use with FSX. My current desktop is a custom build with an Intel Core 2 Duo 3.17GHZ/3.17GHZ processor, GeForce 9800GTX graphics card, 4GB of RAM and Windows 7 64bit. The computer has no problem running current video games on ultra settings, but in recent weeks I've experienced problems with FSX. A few weeks ago I had to do a reinstall (which all went perfectly), before which I ran it with all of the WOAI packages and PMDG 737NGX as the only significant addons and it ran smoothly all the time. However, during the reinstall a friend of mine suggested that I should invest and replace WOAI with MyTrafficX, which I since have. I've found that I have lower FPS than before and I sometimes encounter graphical problems with certain large airports and the PMDG. I've come to the conclusion after trying different scenarios that the problem is the amount of memory that the NGX and MyTraffic require and that I can easily each on their own with no problems what so ever. So I've been considering upgrading hardware wise, and I think that it's probably the RAM which needs a boost. My motherboard takes DDR2 which is the only info I can offer in that respect, so I'm wondering if anybody can point me to how much I should go for etc, and if that is the likely answer to my problem. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
  4. Yes indeed. Think it's probably just re-installation time!
  5. Nope, I went to the add/remove program utility in Control Panel. I do have CCleaner, but I haven't used it today or in relation to the MD-11 uninstallation. The only other addons I have are World of AI and AI Smooth but I've had them since the very start.
  6. The most recent changes I made were installation of the PMDG 737 and the MD-11. The 737 was a while ago and I've flown it a lot without any issues, the MD-11 was a few weeks ago. I did however uninstall the MD-11 last night as it was crashing every so often and I have some space constraints. It may well have been the last thing I did before calling it a day actually...
  7. Couldn't find anything conclusive really. Slight progress however. I deleted the scenery and FSX CFG files from the profile which now means the game can atleast launch. I can go to any of the tabs with the exception of Free Flight. Once I reach that FSX crashes again.
  8. Thank you, I didn't even know that existed. This is what It said: fsx.exe 10.0.61637.0 46fadb14 visualfx.dll 10.0.61637.0 46fadb59 c0000005 00020cbb fa4 01cd440ec3f442bc C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\visualfx.dll 1cc5ee4b-b002-11e1-8dd1-002618d44f5b
  9. Apologies if this is posted in the wrong section. Hey there, I was wondering if anybody could provide assistance. My problem is as follows: This morning whilst attempting to load up FSX I received an error immediately saying "SCENERY.CFG file error. Local scenery directory (Addon Scenery\SCENERY) in Area.115 not found. Click OK to continue." Immediately I scoured the internet for other cases and came across a few with specifically Area.115 and many more with variation on the number. Almost all of the people with the issue pointed out that they couldn't find the Addon Scenery folder which should be located in the FSX root, and likewise mine had gone. The advice was pretty much uniform, "create the missing folder and sub folders". I did this and re-installed Acceleration for good measure, which got rid of the initial error, but alas, the game now reaches the main menu and suffers an unspecified fatal error. Is there a way to figure out what's causing this error, an error log somewhere perhaps? I'm usually pretty nifty with my computer but I'm totally stumped with this one. Any help would be much appreciated!
