  1. ok, after uninstalling everything but just plain vanilla P3D v4.5HF2, it appears that the culprit is SLI config.  SLI Off, all lights appear to work every time, SLI On, hit and miss... delete shaders, reboot, reconfigure scenery index and I can get it to work about half the time.  When I can get it to work with SLI On it stays running fine until I close P3D then the whole cycle starts again.  Will keep experimenting and see what other issues I can uncover.

  2. Thanks Simbol,

I have managed to get my AI and aircraft lights back by uninstalling REX Skyforce 3D, deleting the shaders folder, creating an empty Shaders folder, rebooting the computer and then running AI Lights Reborn Pro, changing the Prepar3d Effects Scaling Technique to FSReborn optimized for full HD, saving configuration and then running P3D.  I hope a solution can be found as I really like my REX.

This is by no means a full solution as it also seems to hit and miss.  I know nothing of the internal files and hope some expertise is brought to the problem so I can use Ai Reborn and my REX textures.  Also for those wondering, I do not use REX's weather engine, I use ActiveSky Next.

Thanks to all who are helping.

    two 1080Ti in a pc??

Yup, Nvidia calls it SLI and AMD calls it Crossfire... running 2 graphics cards to share the load... however it’s not a 1 for 1 proposition... many graphics intensive programs gain substantial performance but P3D is, from what I’ve been able to understand, a highly CPU intensive program so doesn’t gain as much as some graphics programs.

Would you upgrade from a 6700K to an 8700K? I've read in places it's not worth it. I'm toying with the idea

I'm running a non clocking 6700 presently... don't have the new one yet so can't say... my 6700 has been a beast and will be moved over to the support system.

2 1080TIs? I recently built a PC with the1080Ti and I wouldn’t actually be able to fit another one in my case - they’re massive! Your case must be huge.

Does having 2 actually double the graphics power? If so, that’ll be a mean machine.

It comes from the shop pre configured inside...

I have a dual 1080Ti in SLI configuration.  I'm not sure you get double the graphics power in application because we are so CPU bound.  My twins usually run around 20-22% GPU loading so if we had a P3D that could break the bounds of the CPU dependency then that would be something.  The only time those twins impress is in those few situations that bring a single card to it's knees, such as a large frame rate drop due to lots of weather and scenery and lighting all at once.  That is when the SLI shows some of it's stuff.

Space is not the problem if you have a full sized AT mobo and a regular tower case... no need for a larger case but mini towers are a no no if you want to add liquid cooling and SLI graphics.

    +1

  5. So... while waiting for the new release, my second computer has blue screened me 3 times in the last week... uh oh... ok, time move up anyway.  So I ordered a new Alienware Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K with 16GB ram (probably more to follow) and Dual NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1080 Ti graphics with 11GB GDDR5X each (NVIDIA SLI(R) Enabled)...

I figured that ought to do it!  Guess I will change my sig page when it arrives.

  6. ...and for additional realism, I load www.liveatc.net/ and listen to the Departure, Arrival and Tower freqs, listening for the RW aircrafts clearances.  I'm in Palm Springs and enjoy flying Westjet flights from Vancouver to Palm Springs as described in this thread and hearing the Towers clearance for landing and then watching the plane out my window.

  7. I used this set of videos on youtube 2 years ago... I believe there are 21 or so videos and he never got to complete them... they are the best ones I found at the time and have not really looked for additional ones...

  8. Dan,

I understand the OCD part, I picked up on that when you spent time erasing artifacts around the window frames left over from the paint kit... Your instructions helped me to keep my file structures in line (I only erased my master psd file once...(yur not really photoshopping if you haven't erased 10 hours worth of work at least once)) and my habits you helped create make working in photoshop much easier... Thanks again...

ps... I've had to get rid of 2 bodies

  9. Hi Dan.

I know you do not know me... but I wanted to give you a huge thanks!

I tried (unsuccessfully) to learn from your Photoshop course. I don't know how many nameless faces learned from your tutorials, but I want to be one person who says "Thank you".

    Welcome back!

    Mr. Prunier,

I second this post as I was able to get through all 22 of the youtube posted videos and was extremely successful in my knowledge and ability with photoshop... Seeing you here gives me hope you may yet show us the last few if it is something you enjoyed doing.  Thank you so much for your work in the swimming world and I wish you all the success in world.

ps... I too have moved to P3D with mostly ORBX scenery and a few quality airports... its a whole new world out there!

  10. Flew a night flight last night from CYVR (fsdreamteam) to KPSP (default scenery)...

whew, where to start... well, I guess the start... running P3D v3, ASN, Aivlasoft EFB and GSX (for now), I loaded the PMDG 737-800 at the gate, taxied out with very smooth and beautiful emmersion.  Lighting was spectacular, aircraft handled easily, audio in surround sound and all working seamlessly.

Take off was uneventful except for the tingle down my spine from the sheer excitement.  Flight was gorgeous with the moon being a waning gibous out the left side with shadows in the cockpit dancing over the instruments, pretty spectacular.

Arrival and landing was unexpectedly smooth and visually perfect... I am used to 7-9 fps on most landings so up around 14-17 fps was quite a pleasant surprise, so much so that I was eyeballing stuff instead of landing and was too hot and off center.  Got down on concrete at least and didn't run off the end.

Taxiing in was just as smooth as the departure and shutdown was also uneventful.

Presently, I am extremely pleased with the new P3D... PMDG 777 currently enroute to TNCM... same results thus far... smooth fps, beautiful flight.

I have experienced the SMOKESYSTEM error, but that doesn't seem to affect anything on flights, so ignored...

Additionally, I have not loaded down P3D v3 with traffic (big frame killer), fs2crew, not running radar contact...

ohh, ohh, ohh... there goes the Grand Canyon...

... or other payware scenery, so I still have some work ahead...

So for now, I should probably get back to my real job so I can keep paying for this stuff...

  11. Do any of you use Cumulus X?

I once warped up to 999000 feet in the Majestic Dash 8, but that was due to Cumulus X. It's a great program for light aircraft, not so great for tubeliners.  :shok:

I think the ATC guy on Vatsim got a pretty good surprise.

Looks like you are all lined up on final....

  12. +1 for Aivlasoft EFB. It's much more than a moving map that can be very helpful while taxiing on big airports (it even shows you the vector to the active runway). It helps you choosing the correct SIDs, STARs, transitions, shows other traffic, online network traffic & controllers, creates charts for your flight, based on the installed Navigraph cycle, etc. It can be perfectly used with flight planners like PFPX, online planners like Route Finder, etc. It's really worth every cent.

Once I started using Aivlasoft EFB, I was hooked for good.  Running on a laptop networked to the main rig right next to my 46" Monitor... can't beat it!

  13. im quite happy with aivlasoft's efb.

+1  Running mine on a separate laptop accessible during flight.  PFPX does all flight planning, Aivlasoft EFB for charts SIDS and STARS... I do not want anything added to the VC that will cause performance hit.

  14. Love the triple 7, but really got used to fs2crew in the NGX so I'm waiting for that… In the meantime (it'll be done when it's done), I just fly my NGX Westjet in my Canadian/US triangle (CYVR-KPSP-CYYC-PHNL-CYVR) until we get a copilot.
