Although I didn't have the install issues, I did have a similar experience where nothing happened when clicking the button. I was able to fix it by alt-tabbing to another window then alt-tabbing back to the Flight Simulator window.
In general, I have found that when MSFS is not responding to clicks I can usually either click on the MSFS window itself or alt-tab to another window then back to the MSFS window. It seems to be that there is no obvious indication to make it apparent when the MSFS window isn't the actively focused window. As a workaround, I enabled the "Mute Audio In Background" setting under Options -> General -> Sound. This way, if I don't hear anything I know that MSFS is not the active window.
