Hello All,
The hat switch works on assignments, but not on camera presets for me.
I like to use:
left - capt seat
up - overhead
down - pedestal
right - closeup of glass
It will take the assignment but not keep it.
Hope this is useful feedback

David Murden's feelings are valid - because that's how he feels about possibly paying twice.
PMDG's decision is theirs to take - because that's business.
Both the above are factual.
Kyle - the policy of not discussing pricing policy is understandable, but as this is a forum - I expect you will forever have your work cut deciding which posts do/don't cross the line. PMDG might be better served by putting these threads into their own forum labelled "feedback", and let people exercise their chimps.
Bear in mind you don't have to turn a blind eye to "feedback" - but at least it's a way of filtering/sorting.
-
Thank you, yes - I've seen this too.
It's better than nothing, however it does fall short of a "slick solution" when compared to the Airbus or Dash8.
I still hope that PMDG can find it in their schedule of priorities to offer this as part of their software eco-system.
Would be happy to pay for the feature.

64bit is only part of the answer, and it comes with a lot of caveats.
Directx12 is where you should be hyped, in my opinion. I dont know how close it is for p3d - but big FPS leaps possible and on the way - and all with the hardware you have right now - providing you're not running an old VIC20.

Don't know about the cause, sounds like control inputs... fsuipc?
Give engines 3 and 4 full tilt and aim at straight as you can with the asymmetric thrust. Have done worse.
Or wait for V2
-
I will not go into the specifics, but we evaluated this option very closely and decided it was not in our best interest to do at this time.
I don't know anything about the proposal on offer for PMDG - but I'm not surprised at this.
Who needs percentage-sucking middlemen when you're a strong brand in the community.
If anything - steam/dovetail should pay PMDG for taking their toy to a much more serious and lucrative audience.
There's a thought.
Just to add one further thought (which I'm sure have been discussed already) - however consider a "PMDG cloud" (forgive the pun) model, similar to Microsoft Office 365.
Take a PMDG product price, divide by (average lifespan in months / 3) = ongoing monthly subscription (or just pick an attractive monthly price point).
Lowers barriers for those on a budget without discounting the overall product.
Gives PMDG a recurring revenue which might otherwise not exist; in the form of an outright purchase.
Also known to help reduce piracy.

Kyle/Robert:
I definitely want to buy 747 V2.. but in dilemma on which platform to buy it - FSX or X-plane.. I recently started X-plane and have been blown away by the HDR graphics, etc.. but I know that you're still testing the waters on X-plane with the DC-6..
my question is will the 747 V2 be a completely new from the ground up product for X-plane or will it be a quick port from FSX?
If its a completely new development, I can expect to wait at least until 2017 for it to hit the market..
Regards
Vinod Kumar.
Wrong thread + wrong assumptions there mate.
Its a complete rebuild, and has been in progress for considerable time. See the pinned 747 thread.
See my signature regarding all we know about the release dates.
Do we have any time frame when can we have update for boxed version through aerosoft?
Best wishes

To paraphrase you then, "you're right and your wrong"...
I never claimed more FPS, that is not in discussion.
What you're not noticing is that people keep wanting to take "more friends to the beach" every time...
Yes, 64 bit will not address poor and lazy coding. Now, if you want to use:
ORBX
PMDG
FSDT/FLYTAMPA/WHATEVER
AI
Full sliders...
And you are currently getting OOMs...
Which of these guys would say now are poor coders exactly..?
Would or wouldn't 64 bit be the solution..?
It would be a solution, and as I said - im fully supportive of it.
I'm guessing my earlier post was intended to set expectations for the uninitiated. That is to say - those that think 64bit will solve all the ills of a unique platform with several 3rd party developers.
We can currently choose our friends we take to the beach, depending on the size of their fat arse in the car.
They will still have a fat arse on the bus I guess that was my point, notwithstanding the extra space.
I'm not going to name names - but one in your list stands out as a very unoptimised example.
-
Here we go again.... YES, 64 bit *is* a valid solution...
Will it solve dev lazyness or users making proper selections? No, of course not. But you will not get OOMs...
It's not "papering over the cracks". It's the equivalent in your example of just getting a goddamn Bus and ditch that small car....
You sound angry. Breathe.
You're right and you're wrong.
Developer discipline is still important in 64bit, and without at least some discipline, yes, it is "papering over the cracks".
Do I believe in 64bit? Yes
Will it conceal poor coding? No, it'll just allow more of it without it being noticed.
Does poor coding affect performance: Yes, therefore it matters in 64bit.
Does 64bit help performance in itself? Not really (if you exclude the occasions where vas would be exhausted)
Should I take a bus to the beach? I guess so, but it's overkill for 5 people - and it's more of a laugh in the boot. Perhaps we should have used the GA aircraft analogy, and talked about the performance in the POH, and the enjoyment of taking off on a very hot day, with no wind, on an short upsloping runway, with 4 fat friends in the aircraft... and their bags. Don't ask....
p3d 3.1, and this latest 777 update has taken the VAS headache away for now, so I guess I'm in a minority who are more hyped up for Directx12 than 64bit p3d. That's just me. Others might have different priorities.
Have a great day.

Is there any FPS improvement that resulted from this VAS optimization?
For me there is. I've just upgraded and tested at T5 EGLL with full scenery.
Used to be 3.2Gb VAS use at the start. Now its 2.9Gb.
The combination of this update and p3d 3.1 is dynamite.
Frames feel better (no science to back that up, just my impression) - however logically they would be better (certainly if you were nearing the VAS limit - the sim grinds in general at that point).

That's a fine update right there.
And I share your concerns about VAS. The two issues are Developer discipline, and user knowledge. Both are lacking, but hopefully improving.
64bit is not an answer to either of these issues - it's merely papering over the cracks.
P3D v3 at least - manages the VAS reclaim better.
All in all great news and thank you.
In our country, if we were taking 4 people to beach and only had 3 seats - the last one to the car would be piled in the boot (or trunk), and the driver would career around like a maniac to ensure max discomfort.
I know - as I've been the 4th man a few times :(
Happy new year.

I feel like people aren't reading what I'm writing here...
Who wrote that?
-
Never had the MD11, as in my mind it was an engine short of a full compliment.
These days, the glowing praise for that aircraft speaks for itself. I evidently missed out.
The thousands of hours on the V1 Queen though, over the years.
-
Incredible update. Thank you. Can't wait.
Bought a goflight yoke as a celebration!
The VAS numbers look excellent, well done on those. Without wanting to get ahead of oneself - will you be able to apply any of those improvements to the 777 later?
Thanks again.

Ah. Just wrote a post that contained a name beginning with J and ending in S, with ESU in the middle.
It got censored
That's the funniest thing I've ever seen, and I've completely forgotten why I was even posting. Sorry everyone
Happy C h r i s t m a s...

Thanks mate, you can always pin that photo up on the 8i to cover the offending clocks. I'm sure it can be arranged.
I flew approx 1500hrs on the 8i v1 and it was excellent for what it was = an 8i flight model with a 744 flightdeck.
Looking forward to the new one. The 8i will be an expansion of the base model I understand.

Nigel, please put a shirt on. This isn't Tinder and it's mostly just a bunch of guys posting here. I'd bet the vast majority of us probably don't want to see you're shirtless avatar, although some may, I don't.
Same thoughts as you. Someone starts a thread with "Queen" in the title, and all hell breaks loose..

Awesome. Well done. It feels like the Magic of 10 years ago.... do you remember the welcome page on the 1st August 2005, with 744 v1?
It was of a 744 breaking through the page, like a train through a polystyrene wall. Still remember that

I have had 2 CH-products yokes, and 1 Saitek in the last 10 years.
My findings are:
I wish I had just bought a premium yoke to start with, as I've killed both the CH ones with use and mods.
The Elastic band conversion on the CH is good - but be prepared to change the bands occasionally.
The saitek feels more solid, although I agree with the CH smoothness being better.
I'd give both yokes a 6/10.
My next investment will be a premium yoke I think.
-
Very upset.
Great news, and certainly good about the VAS.
Trouble is I've just build a new sim environment, and the timing is off to rotate the hard drives.
If however, directx12 was supported in V3, I would tear the lot down and start again.... but it doesn't seem to be the case. **not a complaint, just an observation**.
64bit is a bit of a placebo for those who think it's the answer to VAS. Its really not you know
Wonder if the eyepoint drift in the VC is cured (this affects longer planes due to the distance between eyepoint / model centre vs location in the world) - a little complicated to describe but annoying in the longer jets.
Happy days.

Gentlemen, I have something to say on this matter - and I welcome your comments accordingly.
1. I'm glad AVSIM exists for my occasional visits to the PMDG community. Thank you for that.
2. I do find it slow and "crashy" when using it from the UK, which would surely harm Ad click-throughs.
3. AVSIM might be free, but we are still being sold to with the banners - therefore the "free" issue is a non-issue notwithstanding the donations option.
4. Here is the mystery:
I might be in Kiev, Ukraine for a while, and look at PMDG AVSIM briefly. Nope - cant do that... DB error, site error, or whatever error.
At the same time, I open up my remote server connection in UK - and can get to AVSIM ok.
Go back to Ukraine 3 seconds later - nope, still broken
In the UK rdp server again - works fine.
This behaviour was consistent for 3 weeks.
--
The businessman in me believes that AVSIM is preventing certain countries from accessing the site. Sorry if I'm incorrect - but it follows the evidence seen so far.
Why would they restrict it? Well its very hard to get anything delivered to Ukraine. And its hard to pay for anything online in Ukraine.
Ergo, our Ukrainian friends seems to be getting an artificial rough ride on this site, to allow for "commercially viable" visitors to click and take action on the Ads. Which is a shame, yet I sympathise with both side of the argument - if indeed this is the reason.
PMDG ought to know about this experience, as it's linked to their brand - even if its not the official support channel.
Have a great day everyone.

I'm glad Mr Parker has found solace in Windows 10 - and his flight simulation OOMs.
I agree with him that things feel more robust on the whole win Win 10.
However I've been experiencing more OOMs than ever before. I neither blame Windows 10, nor LM, nor PMDG for this.
Instead, I put it down to us having different add-ons, and those "subtle little changes" in our configs and set ups.
I did manage a 12 hour flight from Hong Hong to Amsterdam yesterday. JUST. With 3.9Gb of VAS used on landing
The key point is "everyone is right" in their own findings, even if the interpretation isn't scientific

Dear Mr Finis,
I read your posts with interest as I run a business that relies on support tickets too, and see both sides of the hassle.
What you are missing however is the commercial knock-on from people needing to answer phones. If you *really* want this "feature" then PMDG have 3 choices:
1. Do sod all (this is probably the most likely)
2. Put up the cost of the planes, and/or charge a recurring support fee
3. Slow development down, and get distracted with phonecalls - many of which will be from brain donors (I'm not implying yours is of course).
Hope this helps explain why some business cannot sustain phone support. It would just be a waste.

Eh, you're kidding...! Let's fix that in live..?
I'll take my chances with the wrong livery I'm sat where I can't see it anyway.
