  1. In all this topic what intrigues me is that "14+ hour flight".  Wow, how exhausted it is  to be on a real-life 14 hours flight. Now imagine sitting on a chair for 14 hours looking at a computer monitor of a flight simulation. Yikes ! Needs a lot of courage. (or other reasons)

I find it comical when I read people go "Oh we finally have a long haul airliner for those long haul flights." Honestly, I have never flown my PMDG 777 more than 2 hours. In fact,  I can take my  Cessna add-on and fly it for 20 hours +-  no difference!. Anyway, the point is the pointless reason of such looooong hours  looking at a computer monitor- useless.

  2. Yes, in summary, you want to set it to the lowest setting that doesn't give you excessive blurries or delayed autogen loading. The actual value will depend on your system.

Ok, so the smaller the number- the sharper (less blurred) the textures are.

So, I gave it a try and I like the sharp textures with a smaller numbers. As FPS, it decreased a bit in very 'heavy' sceneries. All in all a smaller number works best for me.; locked frames at 30 and boom, best experience yet. (on FSX-DX-10)

  3. It still OOMs, but it just takes longer. And it doesn't matter how many sceneries you have, just keep them all active.

Ok, so longer than 14 hours?  Like 15 hours , now?  I'll test  it so I can believe you. (I'm being sarcastic, of course)

But, wow, I cannot imagine sitting on a computer (or having it on), for 14 hours straight. Geez

  4. I was wondering, if FSL is still in business ? I haven't heard form them in recent times. The only product I've heard from them is the Concorde.

Their A320 has literally taken for so much, for years.

Or maybe, their   Airbus is a lot more complex than a Boeing to develop?

  5. Hey guys,

Even after following this thread, I'm a bit confused and will ask just these questions to better understand this all...

-- What is the point of decreasing the number on FTF? By lowering it, does it removes the blurriness and decrease FPS?

-- Or, does it increase blurriness?

-- Or, does it increase FPS and removes the blurred textures?

  6. And he showed that after flying in his setup on a CLEAN system, SE used MORE VAS than FSX.

Point is - SE is fine BUT it is not any big deal. It's being mainly set up for multiplayer.

Let's not hijack this thread with an argument about SE.

Currently, IMHO, P3D is the future.

    Vic

Wow, for a common joe as myself (and 99% of us), trying to educate a master (or expert) in sim development products, as "meaningless" would be very, un-wise.  Yes, we can all make mistakes, but I would trust Matjhis more than any other person on every sim forum  there is.

  7. It's you computer. it's your paid software. All you're doing is placing it on a different "room."  Will any of the software companies keep track of where the box is sitting? Not one... In fact, they could care less.. You already paid for it-  It's yours.

However, (here's where it matters), if you were building computers and using the exact same license for reselling and making business; then, I'm sure no developer will be happy. (just my $1.00)

For Example: You've had a laptop with Windows XP or 7, and you decide you want to buy a better laptop, and you sell the current one to a friend (or anyone). Do you call Microsoft and ask for their permission? Nope!

  8.       Some folks are just way too 'innocent' . They shoot themselves in the foot before they need to- in fact there's no need to. Yes, business is business; however, when you come out publicly and say things like : " Ohhhhh, no , there will be no discount" "Uhh, I'll be happy to pay as much as needed."  What these things do is simply give the business owner an idea of what could be "acceptable" for many, and if there's enough of the same, then the business goes with it cause they feel, most people will agree.

Look at what Aerosoft what did  their Airbus? It's an outstanding product-  at a reasonable price. And on top, they have included other products at no charge... Should I go back to Mathis and say: "Hey Mathis, you need to charge more for this; it's not worth $50.00. This should easily be $130.00"    Then, I would be just too "innocent"

There is no doubt PMDG is one of the top 4 sim developers in our sim world, and many will say that they will pay any price for it. However, there are others who don't think that way... This brings us to diversity. When waiting for a product- anything (car, house, food, clothes, FSX sim a/c etc.etc), the best thing we can do is listen, watch, and wait. Don't shoot yourselves in the foot... No need to. I am  sure if the developer is wise (which I have no doubt PMDG is), he will charge a reasonable price for his product.   That's it!  Wait !

    Werner-

Once we have confirmed receipt of payment, we will pick you up in PMDG's (new-to-us) 744 and fly you to our (also new-to-us) corporate development resort in a nice, tropical beach location and you can hang out with us and relax while we finish development...

Just let me know when the money is sent, and what you'd like for your meal inflight.  We'll get right on it!

There you go!. If the customer wants it, and is willing to pay 'anything' for it... then give it to him. (or sell it to him) He'll be happy.

At that price, you'd have enough to bring along all Avsim members for a swim in the beach. And, if you decide you want to save a bit, let the older guys we go on your private jet, and the younger guys go on a UPS  777.

  9. Resolved:      That did, Dave. I disabled KSEA in Vector and it's all back to normal. Goodness I spent several hours last night trying to fix it.

    Thank you both, guys.

I just rebuilt my sim and had the same thing happen.  The Vector tool resolved it for me.

Yes sir- that fixed it.. Thank you.

  10. Mine doesn't. Do you have any .bgls with KSEA in your main FSX folder?

Hi Jordan, yes I do. I did a search for  KSEA and it comes up with 7 different ones; they are all under the ORBX folder...

    - ORBX\FTX_Vector_V

    - ORBX\FTX\_NA\FTX_NA_P

Do you have FTX Global Vector installed?

If so, disable KSEA in the AEC in the FTX Vector Config tool.

If not, you may have a bad install of the terrain file, and if so I believe the only thing you can do (short of taking the file apart) is to try a reinstall.

    Hi Dave,

Last night I did a complete install of PNW but that made no difference.

Let me try to disable KSEA in  the Vector config tool.

  11. Guys,

I have an issue with KSEA. I recently reinstalled FSX on my system; however, KSEA has some horrific raised terrain on the taxiways and runways... This is the only airport with this problem. So, I was wondering if FSX comes with a default KSEA? Can someone please check their scenery library and see if there's a default KSEA on the list, pls?

I currently have latest versions of ORBX PNW (and Global Base), and Vector. Everything else is fine except the very airport itself. Terrain is raised so high that the runways are buried. Not sure what's causing this.

  12. You have to do what makes YOU happy. That's what this is all about. I don't fly the heavies but I have the Majestic Q400 and I have to plan carefully due to VAS usage, so I undertstand your issues.

I feel sure that P3D will keep growing and that 64bit is in the not too distant future and that will resolve a lot of issues that many people have with the current sim.

    Vic

Thank you for your understanding, Vic  I did not want to make the other guys upset. In fact, I was about to reinstall P3D tonight to make these guys happy.

But with your words of wisdom, I won't. LoL

But it's true, the idea is that we need to go with what's best for us. Honestly, I fell in love with P3D when I installed and tried, but as I began adding more and more stuff, it turned out, sadly, disappointing.  I couldn't believe my eyes seeing an OOM every 2 minutes. And if I lower the settings too much to make it run, then the sim was just too vague.  Now, I must say, this came with heavy airports and aircrafts... no AI. I'm hoping with the new system I'll complete next year, and other improvements, I'll manage it. One o f the biggest VAS usage I noticed was with HiRes mesh.. it added about 800Mb to VAS quickly.

Anyway, I'm glad it's working well for you.  Maybe a little hiccup leaving and entering Burbank, I guess? Hopefully it won't be too long that I'll be back to P3D.

  13. WIP? A few outstanding bugs, yes, but WIP compared to FSX, that must be a joke :) (although FSX:SE might be better in that regard).

Anyway, enjoy your flights, whatever sim you choose.

    That's true

I guess it boils down to what your needs are. P3D fulfills my flying needs perfectly. Far better than FSX ever did so that's where I stay.

    Vic

Hey Vic, I agree. IT certainly is a better sim. The thing with my case is I enjoy the "heavy add-ons: and some are not compatible, and others cause almost sudden OOM. In the near future I should complete building my new system. Perhaps that would help; along with developers making more addons compatible with P3D. And also if P3D makes a 64bit version, that would be wonderful, as well.

In the mean time, I'll be flying within FSX-DX10.

  14. I believe you all add some good points into this topic. As I have mentioned previously, P3D is better than FSX in several terms. However, at this time, it does not fulfills my interests. P3D is still a "WIP" simulator and I am sure it will only get better; especially if they come up with a 64Bit version. I'm sure most of us will eventually leave FSX, just as we did way back since 1998.I'm also in the process of building a new system. I've had a delay but hopefully will get back to it soon.

In the mean time, let's enjoy what we have and hope LM will improve our hobby as much as we desire. And, of course, other developers will make their products compatible with what's coming up, as well.

Peace be with you                                              (and also with me)  :Batting Eyelashes:

  15. ^ again, if your hardware is the limiting factor, it may be better to stay with FSX and enjoy what you have. For most mid-high end systems, performance (even with with the P3D-exclusive eyecandy) is markedly better.

For reference sake, this was with my "ancient" i7 930 and GTX680. New components are in the mail and I can't wait to dial it up even more...

The system I currently have is more than capable to run P3D. However, there is a cap of 4Gb on VAS. My preference is top quality addo-ns and use the top quality settings (or close to). I can do it on FSX- not on P3D.  Some folks are fine with low settings; others are not, then there comes the decision making.

  16. I must be living under a rock, I've never been able to run FSX, XP10, P3D without making adjustments and/or knowing how the product works with 3rd party.

As far as the Op, this was rather predictable, sorry to say, but going back to your original "why p3d" post (here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/456793-why-prepar3d/ )

But blaming a core product (P3D) because you can't get 3rd party products to work well makes little to no sense to me ... shouldn't you be posting stuff like this in the appropriate 3rd party forums?

    Happy Holidays,

    Cheers, Rob.

I'm trying to understand your comments. What was predictable? That anyone would have problems with P3D? Or, that I would be the only one with problems on P3D? Or.......... ?

On the topic "Why p3d?,"   I was making a genuine interrogation in order to understand the benefits of the new platform. The idea of getting  a new sim is to have  better experience than the previous one. Or else, what's the point of leaving the one you currently have.

I don't believe I have ever blamed P3D for not being able to use third party add-ons . Yes I can use some  third party addons; however, not all of them. None-the-less, that is not the reason for not staying with P3D. There are a number of reasons why I felt, I was not able to stay. It's very simple.. There are several factors that determined my reluctance to stay.  And the biggest reason on my experience is the difficulty I encountered with VAS.

The idea to move to another sim is to have a better experience in both graphics and performance - Not to lower my settings to FSX or DS9 standards. This is the same reason why we move from a lower quality add-on to higher quality one.

NB: As I repeat, this is my experience, and does not necessarily means it will be for everyone. That's all... I will go with what works for me; not what  someone else wants me to believe that works, cause it may or may not work for me. How do I know (How can someone know?)  Trying it.. I did...it did not work for me!   :Peace:

  17. In defense of OP, I don't think he came across as pouty or petulant.  Forums like Avsim are not just about communicating joyous and mirthful praise.  Just like those that are quick to post how great their experience is, or why they are going to rush out and buy something, so too, do people want to communicate why they are giving up on something.  I've been following P3D for some time now, wondering whether it is at the stage where it can replace FSX for me, and these kinds of posts are helpful for me to make that determination.

I think those gentlemen are trying to hurt my feelings.  haha

Before they succeed in doing so, let me explain.

No where did I say P3D is no good- Nope!. It is in fact a great sim. However, the add-ons I have and the settings I prefer,  does not currently meet my expectations. And, in further defense, it could very well be my hardware causing troubles or it could be something behind the scenes eating up my VAS.

We could spend long hours discussing this; however, I'm not new to this. I'm not an expert either; but, I do have my little share of experience.

I am 100% positive P3D will get much better; thus, I fully support it. Much better hardware and software will  also come along which will help us a lot.  Currently,  I seem not to be ready ready for P3D. (or P3D is not ready for me)

  18. I have used P3D 2.2 since it was released and never changed to 2.3/2.4.  Surprisingly apparently, I have never had one OOM including in full cross-country flights until a day or two after I installed FSDT's Hawaiian Airports--so I uninstalled them and am back to normal.   I have lots of complex scenery, FTX stuff & FSDT's airports.

Hi Noel, I hear you. I'm glad you're having a good experience. I battled with this long enough as it was getting me very exhausted.  Been especially busy at work. I tried a lot of stuff. And, honestly it works for me to a certain extent.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Simply put:

In the beginning it was all love and romance- like when one recently marries...everything is sweet and fun, and long weeks of none-stop exercise, etc, etc.  LoL   But then, started demanding more and more, and Sandy just gave up. ( I hope my wife doesn't read this)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The problem is I enjoy the large complex aircraft. I enjoy flying in bad weather and in high detailed sceneries. Under these circumstances it will black-out. And this is where it disappoints me. Of course wasn't maxing out all my settings; but if I reduce them too low then it's useless... If that were the case in my situation, I would be better off going to FS2002.  But then again,  detail and performance are one for me... and they must get along very well.

But hey, I'll be back. I'm sure P3D will only get better.

  19. One product can't fit everyone needs. And furthermore, why changing if you're fine with what you have ?

You my friend, are correct. However, I wanted to try P3D.

Just curious what high end add-ons are you referring to?  The major sceneries developers like ORBX, FSDT, FlightBeam all have P3D version.  As for aircraft, I admit the only high end one is A2A at the moment.  Oops, I forgot that MJQ is also a high end developer, not to count the very good Aerosoft A3xx.  There are fewer add-ons, yes but certainly they are there.  My issue with P3Dv2 currently is the VAS usage, all those eye candies have a price.  My use of P3D is currently restricted to small plane VFR flying over ORBX regions, which perform better in P3Dv2 compared to FSX.  FSX is only for flying Jet right now for me.

98% of my flying are "tube-liners"  Mostly Aerosoft A321, BlackBox A330, PMDG full line of aircrafts, etc. I tried the MJQ. It's, a nice aircraft; however, that horrible spot view (set and static) they built into it, made me uninstall it the following day and burned it until no ashes were left. Why, why in the world would they encode that external static view? It's like a Lamborghini with 30 inch wheels- kills it. (Wana have a car with huge wheels? Buy a mule and a cart- nice big wheels)  LoL

  20. Ladies and Gentlemen,

I've come to the conclusion that for right now, P3D is not for me. I have  just way too many FSX add-ons that won't work within P3D in an acceptable manner. And, as I kept adding more and more high-detailed aircraft and sceneries VAS filled in and killed it.    Yes, the sim is nice due to a more 'immersive feel' created by the clouds, shadows, and over all environment. However, it comes with a high price- works great only with low-end add-ons. ( works ok with high-end add-ons and low settings)

I am a huge fan of high-end add-ons, and full eye-candy... P3D won't let me do this, unfortunately.  I end-up with an almost instant OOM. Despite having tried many recommendations, it just doesn't fit my need- high performance and high "eye-candy."

I am sure P3D will get better and better. Hopefully  a 64bit version comes out or some other major improvement. Until then, I'll stay with FSX-DX10.  I am positive I'll be back; I will not hesitate upon seeing  more positive factors. A big thank you to everyone who pitched in to help me... I cannot thank you enough.

Merry Christmas... and a blessed new year !

    Rick

  21. Rob speaks great wisdom.   That's the thing I do that probably saves me; I use Scenery Configurator before every flight to turn off and on only what  I need for my trip.

Rob, I actually encountered that OOM bug the other side while flipping through the tons of ERJ's and 737 liveries.   FSUIPC started dinging and I was like; But I haven't even loaded in yet!?  lol

I will install Scenery Configurator. What is the exact path to link it to? Is it to the Scenery CFG? I seem to have 2 scenery CFGs.

  22. Yep that's the bug, it's being addressed in v2.5.

    Cheers, Rob.

Rob, I'm not sure where you get the time to help with all these issue; but, it is greatly appreciated. Your input to the community is incalculable.

Thank you, very, very much!  (and to the other guys, as well)

I will try these suggestions later today.
