Solutions

  1. tnm's post in FSX-SE launch issue (Invalid Hardware or Driver) was marked as the answer   
    Update. My monitor that was using HDMI was being detected as a generic non-pnp monitor. I swapped the HDMI cable and the computer properly recognized the monitor. Then bam FSX-SE launches!
