in every alpha/beta release I tested with my 9900k I never, not even once managed to peg any CPU core to 99% load.

GPU? yes but that was with ultra settings and 4K, I would achieve the same result with any modern game.

Compared to P3D which is a Core0 dramaqueen, MSFS is more easy on the CPU from my opinion.

Many things need to be corrected with MSFS, but claiming it to be CPU hog à la P3D is not accurate.

Did you try the release version? For me it's different.

I read here and there in this thread the advocacy of the best bang for your buck approach to justify going to the Intel or Nvidia 70 or 60 series as opposed to the 90 (Intel) or 80 (Nvidia).

I think it is fairly justified if you build your computer to last,  say,  three or four years. You get the best ratio for today or tomorrow games.

I prefer to build for a longer period for about 7/8 years and go to the upper specs to be sure that the they will still be relevant then.

I don't say it is the way to go, it is the way I go.

    I made my PC in 2011 I think, it's an i5 2500k. Initially had 8GB ram and a Radeon 4850 vid card.

With time I overclocked to 4.4Ghz, added Hyper 212 Evo to keep it cool, a Radeon RX480 8Gb and upped ram to 16GB and it has kept very current. It's no lightning fast but surprisingly fast.

Perhaps he’s referring to a camera effect when taking the screenshot, you probably can’t answer this but I wonder about what camera settings can be altered when taking a pic.

I don't think I can answer that question without breaching the NDA, but I can only say regarding my pictures "what you see is what you get". And ofc it depends on each PC's hardware display settings etc. Some may have more or less graphic options on.

However, it seems to me that some, if not all, of the screenshots have been touched up, or photo-shopped, for effect.  I do not like this practice, and it makes me suspicious that the scenery may not be quite as awesome as the MSFS marketing folks are making it seem.

    I don't think so.

I can tell you my screenshots look exactly the same in this site as in my hard drive, and I don't see anything in the other screenshots to think that they were tampered with.

In the selection of screenshots in this update my favorites are the shot taken to the right of the 152 flying  the downwind leg with the cracked asphalt runway and the airfield buildings down below so we see how a small airfield looks like and the one with the aircraft just about to land on the dirt strip with the puddles and the pebbles and the garbage bin.

PS thanks to Snowy for the wonderful shot à la Trent Palmer, I wish I was there ! To Kpetersscrn too for the mountain and the Costa Rica shots.

You're welcome! Im glad they chose them 🙂

  6. Wow these alpha invites are taking out the worst of people.

Posting here won't make a difference, I'm Kpeters here but Microsoft named me MidSizeCarton67 or 69.... something like that... which I've no idea what the heck it means. They don't have a way of cross referencing us nor do I think they scan the forums to choose people.

I know it's discouraging and I also get my heart tacing when I see a new email but it will probably not happen for a lot of us, specially us in lower-mid end systems.

I just checked it out in Google Earth VR. Surreal. Especially if you put yourself at fixed human scale on one of the hiking trails and start to wonder why you didn't take the cable car. 😉

Google Earth VR is breath taking.
