  1. Surely it depends on the AoA of the wing chord in relation to the horizon / level attitude? Indicating +0.2 Alpha on the AoA sensor, and it is normal for this to be slightly nose low on some aircraft at higher speeds.
  2. At the time I hadn't appreciated there was a much longer (consolidated) list submitted by other members of this forum.
  3. I recieved a response, albeit non-commital! Support (Microsoft Flight Simulator) Aug 24, 2020, 10:23 AM GMT+2 Hi Andy, Thank you for contacting Microsoft Flight Simulator support today. We are planning to have discreet World Updates that focus on a specific region of Earth. The current plan is to do this every 2-3 months. In order to really celebrate that particular part of the planet we are updating, we are also planning on creating some new hand-crafted airports, some new POIs and we will also attempt to provide some more activities … like landing challenges. We are very excited about this as it will – over time - spotlight all regions of Earth, which we hope will bring focus to areas that might not be a current aviation hub. Kind regards, Microsoft Flight Simulator Support Team Andy Webb Aug 23, 2020, 4:19 PM GMT+2 Barra Airport (EGPR) is missing from the world planner and is covered by water. As the only beach runway in the world used for scheduled airline routes, it would be great to have in the sim! St Helena (FHSH) is missing from the world planner, and Bing imagery.
  4. I have experienced a problem if I try to add a new wp to an imported plan from within the sim - it then dumps the imported one in favour of whatever it thinks best! Ah well, good motivation to get it right first time in SimBrief!
  5. Thanks. Yes its easy to lose track of time in the rw! I am really hopeful that the weather bugs will be ironed out and (like the ATC issue) it may be saturation at the Azure end. We'll have to wait and see... until then, I am quite happy re-learning some basics and watching the 3pd content roll in! Hopefully more people will share their experiences - it always gives me ideas for the next flight!
  6. Today I experienced a flight that might not have been completely realistic, but was truly special. To try and explore SIDs/STARs and autopilot functionality in MSFS, I have been flying some Topa Sky flights in New Zealand. The scenery and topography in this sim is pretty amazing as it is, but I wasn't prepared for the sheer unexpected brilliance of an unplanned moment flying from Milford Sound to Manapouri today. The flight was scheduled for 1830z, but on arrival at the gate it was far too dark to take off given the lack of runway lighting, albeit pleasantly VMC (pesky ops team, scheduling a flight at an inappropriate time!). Instead, I came to stop at the holding point, shut the engine down and watched a sunrise amongst the mountains of NZ, listening to the increadible ambient sounds Asobo have put in. The lighting engine is something else, enabling a pretty special sunrise departure. I decided MSFS wasn't so bad after all (despite, like many, encountering some frustrating bugs over the past week). Once airborne, I noted with some slight surprise that Asobo have simulated the ambient lighting change you would expect on climbout between mountain valleys and tuned the ATIS for Queenstown (60nm from Manapouri which is an uncontrolled airfield), which indicated FEW at 900'. It was pretty much sky clear as I flew the 60nm towards Manapouri, which is situated in a valley adjacent to two large lakes. As I approached I spotted some isolated low level cloud in the valley and idly thought about how it was interesting that the sim was representing the sort of low level cloud build up that might be expected in a watery valley after sunrise. It was only when I tried to start my descent that I noticed that the cloud was forming over Manapouri and becoming BKN and latterly OVC. Long story short, I spent almost 40mins shooting NDB and GPS approaches to minima into fog, approaching minimum fuel and calculating multiple diversion options - before just(!) managing to forward slip into the field during a brief gap - descending from 4000' d2.5nm, I wouldn't have received any thanks from a real employer, the passengers or the flight safety team - but it felt pretty visceral and satisfying. The whole thing was completely unexpected and really got me thinking about all sorts of airmanship stuff that I simply wasn't expecting. Say what you like about the game/simulator debate - today I had about as much fun as I have ever had on a computer - and learned something about my decision making in the process! Epic...
  7. Really? That includes basic aircraft functions like feathering a prop? Then why would they allow you to simulate in flight failures and the function to do so on the throttle quadrant?? I hear you, but it just seems barmy!
  8. I am no expert on aeronautical engineering, but shouldn't a prop feather after the mixture is cut off, the turbojet rolls back, the rpm decreases below operating range and the RPM lever is moved to feather? It is frustrating to try an use msfs as a learning tool, only to have to second guess the physics and system functionality. Between engine performance and avionics frustrations, I am beginning to despair! As a VFR toy it is clearly amazing. I don't for a moment begrudge them not having finished everything to a fine level of detail (early access being the new norm and also desired by the community) but those of us seeking to learn from the simulator should be given some guidance as to what works, and what does not! I am happy to ignore or wait for the latter, so long as I know!
  9. 50 Karma points to anyone that can point me to an internet resource on how to work the bally things!
  10. Anything to tell me how to use the Garmin for IFR flight would be a bonus!
  11. Hi all, I need a bit of steer - I am unfamiliar with most of the GARMIN avionics in the aircraft included with the Sim. I have been playing with them all day, but some seem... well, broken! Is it me misunderstanding how they work, or are they buggy? For example, I can fly an ILS in the Daher by tuning the ILS freq on the Nav1/2 using Garmin, but when I try to set a Nav freq in the King Air, it doesn't allow me to. The King Air also seems to be inconsistent in navigating between functional pages in general. Also, when I select an RNav or ILS approach on the world map, the ATC often gives up on suitable vectors after the last waypoint. There doesn't appear to be any built in plates or charts - and I can't work out how to bring up and select the waypoints from real world charts in the in-game garmin... 😞
