  1. I am happy with my performance. The only time I see any problem is when I hold right mouse button and look around rapidly I will see some stuttering. Maybe I can turn something down a little bit? Like this TOLD whatever that is. Its certainly not something which would cause me to throw more money at it lol.
  2. No comments? I was wondering what response others got on their machines.
  3. I am curious about my pc performance. Also this discussion may be of interest to others. I will list my pc components and the resulting comments by the in-game cpu/gpu fps performance window. i7-8700K on an ASUS Prime z370-A mobo with 32 GB Corsair RAM running Win10/64 Home drives: C: 512 GB M.2 SSD with OS only / E: 1TB M.2 SSD for general use / F: 512 GB SATA SSD for MSFS2020 only 34" ultrawide monitor 165Hz refresh rate and 1440p GTX 1060 6GB video card and a 650w Seasonic PSU With this setup and the simulator values set low I receive the comment 'limited by GPU'. And now I have upgraded my pc with a Powercolor 7900XTX and a Seasonic 1300w PSU. I set the simulator values to max across the board. The comment is 'limited by main thread'. No direct mention of hardware. Does this mean the computer can't process the main thread sufficiently? The main thread itself is a problem? Oh btw I am flying over rural areas with a large city in the distance. The temps on AMD's Adrenaline show CPU at 43* and GPU at 53*. Utilization in the 60% range.
  4. I recently purchased a 3440x1440 curved monitor 165 Hz.
  5. My grandson is 18 yo and beyond onboard graphics. Nor is he into flight sims. Its more a matter of keeping up with his older brother. And "grandpops" is beyond onboard graphics too. Common sense? Well that is another question...
  6. Hmmmm on second thought let me see what my grandson is currently running.
  7. Thanks for the offer but I'll go with the 3000 series. Something a little beyond my current build which will still be operable if I build something new under it.
  8. I looked on NewEgg (my prefered vendor) and the only 9900K there is an i9-9900KF for $664. Whoa! If I'm gonna spend that much on a cpu I'll go whole hog and get a new motherboard and all. Used? Idk that relies on luck and I don't have much.
  9. I have been bouncing back and forth Intel/AMD since I built my first machine back in 2006- a core 2 duo. My son acquired that machine and I then built an AMD Deneb quad core which lasted 7.5 years before this i7. Somehow I fell into a pattern of upgrading the GPU halfway between pc changes. I expected this machine to last 7 years at least- it may be my last one being my age. It still works well. As I said the only thing I do that challenges it is MSFS. Other than that I play Civ 6, World of Warships, Ultimate Admiral series and a couple others. Surf the web too of course. I think I'll just go to an RTX 3080 (PSU too of course) and I'll be satisfied. Play around with the bios overclocking maybe. Thanks for all your input. P.S. Oh yes- I turned on Developer Mode and the GTX 1060 was the botteneck as expected at 42 ms (whatever ms are). milliseconds?
  10. Very useful information ie the Developer Mode thank you. But I can be confident the GTX 1060 is the bind atm. I'm just wondering how far to upgrade without getting into futility. From what everyone has said it appears the 3090 is just too much with this cpu overclocked or not. At this point I am leaning to the 3080, turning the settings up and then using Developer Mode and the naked eye to see where I'm at. I'm confident I'll be satisfied but overclocking the cpu is still there as an option.
  11. 80 credits is the result of the purchase procedure. I have tried booting the game a number of times in the last 2 days and it hasn't resolved itself.
  12. Does anyone have any idea why MSFS is not in sync with the cloud?
  13. Years ago I had a Packard Bell pc with a 386SX processor. DOS 4.0. It had an ATI gpu and when I upgraded I bought an nVidia product. That machine WOULD NOT accept that nVidia card! No matter what I did it was locked out. word not allowed me off big time! Who the hell they think they are? Ever since then I've been an nVidia man. Ya I know self interest rules the world but still!
  14. I appreciate your advice. But I am 69 years old and have been satisfied with 1080p. How much additional power can I make use of? When I chose this monitor I settled for 1440p and the continued use of the i7-8700K processor. Nothing I do challenges that cpu other than MSFS and I'm not driven to maximise my hardware solely for that. The low settings I have been using have been satisfactory to me and a jump to 1440p on a widescreen will be a quantum leap beyond that. So the question is which gpu will match my existing hardware with perhaps a little futureproofing too. You are talking to a guy who started out on a Commodore 64 on a TV back in the day lol.
  15. Thanks but I intend to stay with what I have for a couple more years. It appears to me the newer CPUs offer more cores but little improvement in clock speed. I have little use for more cores. At this point I just wish to improve my video capabilities.
