  1. I finally discovered the source of the lighting issue. When Virtual Reality Settings>Eye Tracking>EnableVariableRateShading is set to Yes, the flickering happens. Setting it to No and restarting P3D (it won't go away if you just click Apply and OK - this is why I didn't discover it the previous time I changed every available setting) got rid of it.
  2. I got the replacement mobo installed yesterday. The computer had been experiencing frequent BSOD events with obscure errors in addition to the lighting problem in VR, and no BSODs occurred in my first four hours of testing, but the lighting problem remains. @Steve_Ellis Thanks for the suggestion on resizable BAR. I haven't checked that yet, but it does point me toward BIOS settings in general, which I haven't considered at all to this point. It does feel like I'm grasping at straws right now, but there's something specific to this machine's configuration that's causing it.
  3. The problem didn't follow the graphics card. Based on that, the computer builder offered to warranty replace the motherboard. That prompted me to check for BIOS updates. A new one was released this month, so I flashed that, but the problem remains. Another interesting detail that I noticed during the swap test is that the lighting issue is the same even when using the HMD emulator mode to run VR. I'll update this thread once the replacement mobo is tested.
  4. I've been working with Varjo and the computer builder on this issue for over a month now, and no one has made progress. It's a lighting issue in VR, and I suspect it's due to a faulty graphics card because it occurs in both the HP Reverb G2 and the Varjo XR-3 on one computer but not on another computer with identical settings, graphics driver, and Windows updates. Here's a video detailing the issue: The suspect graphics card has passed several diagnostics and tests that Varjo and the builder asked me to run. I've found plenty of other tests with my own searches, but I don't really know what tests would be appropriate to run on it. This is either a rare issue or I haven't figured out how to describe it well, because my internet searching has so far turned up empty. If it is the graphics card, it seems that I'm going to have to find proof on my own to get a warranty replacement.
  5. Appreciate the response. The cast metal certainly provides the best feel, but to me the most valuable characteristics of your design are the spring tension and axis travel. What would be really nice is support for adding a button or switch to the yoke for low-volume custom applications. I have several interpretations of what "support" means in this respect. At a bare minimum, support could mean identifying the maximum depth to which one could drill and tap a given part of the handle to mount an accessory, and not supporting any electrical interface with that accessory. An ideal case would be supporting mounting, wiring and software mods to make additional controls work just like the native controls on the yoke. I understand you're swamped with what you have right now and that's good for everybody. The applications I have in mind would probably never make business sense for you, but could be justifiable for certain customers if they paid the development costs themselves.
  6. @tutmeister Any information you could share on the future of different handles? Do you foresee any third-party development or support for yoke owners making their own?
  7. The Skytech system has two days of restart-free running after turning VSYNC on and limiting FPS to 90, so that is promising. The Alienware was serviced yesterday, so we will see what happens with that one. Thanks for your advice!
  8. It would certainly be nice if we could count on PC builders like Alienware and Skytech to properly design their off-the-shelf systems for acceptable cooling. This is either a warranty issue or a software incompatibility issue in this instance. I'd just like to get an idea whether the cards are suffering from a higher than normal failure rate in this community.
  9. Not looking for troubleshooting advice at this point, just an idea of whether I might have drawn the short straw this time around... I bought a premade system with a Core i9-10900K and an RTX 3080 (PC manufacturer's design). The system began to restart randomly after about a week of use when running P3D. It steadily got worse. When the manufacturer tested it, the GPU results came back abnormal and they authorized replacement. Still waiting on that replacement. Meanwhile, I bought a different premade system with a Ryzen 7 5800x and a PNY 3080. After about the same length of time, it started to do the same thing. Following advice on some forums, I replaced the Nvidia "game ready" drivers with "studio drivers" and dropped the boost clock speeds, and for a few hours, it looked like it was fixed, but then it started doing it again. This is where things stand as of today. Both systems are dedicated P3D machines that are intended to be upgrades from older systems. They're running the same add-ons as the older RX 580 and GTX 1650 Super systems they were supposed to replace, but they were running 4k monitors instead of the 1080p monitors that the older systems ran. We never had any restarts like this on the older systems. My question to the community is whether others have had quality issues with the RTX 3080. The warranty process is unsurprisingly slow for a 3080 right now. On the other hand, these systems are for professional use, and if I invest more time in troubleshooting the Nvidia and P3D configuration, I'll be pulling time away from work that could be earning income. Has anyone else running P3D with a 3080 had problems with full-on computer shutdowns, and if so, did you get the problem solved?
  10. Thank you! This all makes perfect sense and is exactly the information I was looking for.
  11. Very helpful. Full disclosure: I have yet to buy a VR headset. Is it also possible to interact with the desktop or specific window in P3D without having to toggle focus, like Alt+Tab? In other words, does it feel natural to use whatever you've imported, or are there extra steps required to make use of it once you set it up?
  12. I've been searching for a way to make handwritten notes in P3D (any version). This project for DCS is the inspiration. It would be especially useful for VR, but being able to see what notes you took and what was going on at the time in a replay of a scenario would be a good training tool in general. Has anyone come across something like this, or have there been any other inquiries about such a tool?
