  1. Confession time...I remembered that a couple of months ago I was experimenting with an app that utilised Google Earth maps in place of Bing Maps - it temporarily placed the following in Windows Host file: 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net Supposedly these lines are supposed to be deleted when the program exits, but in my case they remained, hence the problems I'd been experiencing connecting to Bing. I have since deleted the lines and successfully flown 2 different flights without problem and with graphics set to High with good frame rates - and on my cheap graphics card too. My fault entirely, not MSFS. Apologies to all, and thanks again for all the help offered!
  2. Thank you - that last one (DNS settings) is a thought. Edit: set to Cloud flare - immediately loading FS got the warning about connection dropped - then reconnected - then that photogrammetry would be disabled because of low bandwidth. Thanks anyway.
  3. Aha, well thank you all. I won't panic right away. I will see how things pan out for a week or two.
  4. That's something to consider Noel, maybe a project for the new year - thanks. Just tried another restart of FS and the flight began alright - but 2 minutes in I was told that I was disconnected - that data would be turned off - then promptly the green "Reconnected" sign came on. It seems to go round and round in an endless loop of disconnecting / reconnecting. Madness!
  5. I am just too old to face reinstalling Windows 10. If you asked me to reinstall Windows 3.1 or 95, then I'd have bitten the bullet - but there is so much I have on this system that is fine tuned (passwords / keys, etc) that were I to reinstall my ageing mind wouldn't cope. I have recent disk images stored just in case of a Windows failure. It might well solve the problem, but I have read of one or two cases where people reinstalled everything only to find they were back in the same boat.
  6. Thanks Noel and March Hare - I will do so. As it happens during the past month when I was unable to fly (because of the freezing at 70% launching a flight) - the "turn off photogrammetry because bandwidth is insufficient " came up almost every time. Strangely, prior to the 'freezing' issue - I had 2 weeks flying with not one 'bandwidth' issue. My guess is that the present problem is due to some update in past month.
  7. Never had a cap. TalkTalk Unlimited. Ookla reports ping of 9ms speed of 78mb per sec, and excellent stability, virtually no latency and zero jitter. This has to be a Microsoft / Steam error (unless I have some silly setting somewhere:-) Edit: Just experienced my first ever CTD. And last night I thought I was back to normal:-(
  8. Here we go again - this is no good; just like using FSX 8 years ago with dire scenery. I don't think this new MSFS2020 and me are going to get along at all. I am using NordVPN - and which is renowned for gaming. I have tried different servers on there, and disabled it so that I have a direct non-VPN connection. Neither work. Within the sim I have tried all the servers on offer and set to auto too. Within Options>Data I have tried all the different options (limited / unlimited data setting as well as setting limited amount of data transfer). Every time I load a flight I end up with the message " your bandwidth is too low for data streaming, you have been switched to offline mode " Edit: whilst flying I get green notification saying "Connected" - then shortly after the " your bandwidth is too low for data streaming, you have been switched to offline mode "...this goes on an on in a loop. My connection is super stable - no other applications have trouble at all with dropped or poor connections. I don't stream TV anywhere in the house, and no other application is using resources. This month I have managed fewer than 10 minutes flying and probably several days downloading and trouble-shooting. Again, any suggestions welcome.
  9. Yes, I will hold off Windows 11 for as long as possible. So I have my graphics settings set to middle performance all going well, BUT... whenever I launch a flight just before I launch I get the message that my bandwidth is too low for live streaming and it has been set to OFF. I have changed servers and still get the message. My internet connection is Fibre optic 78mb per sec - and running just fine. Any thoughts on this one?
  10. Thanks - one other thing I noticed was that on the C drive I found a very old rolling cache folder deep within c:/users etc from a previous installation and deleted it. This software is a minefield of housekeeping! Let's hope my luck stays with me and loading up tomorrow is all okay!
  11. Congratulations! You have cracked it - unbelievable to see a plane sitting on the runway with propeller rotating. I can't thank you enough and owe you a beer or two. Thanks also for everyone else who has chipped in over the weeks and put up with me;-)
  12. Much appreciated March Hare. I will consider doing as you advise and report back some time in the coming days - can't afford a spare SSD - but might be able to make room on the main one for now.
  13. Thanks for the tip - still waiting for Windows 11 to be offered...
  14. Yes I have tried setting both a defined page file and system managed page file. I have also tried no page file - now back to system managed. Windows is on a 250gb SSD, fs on a 4TB black WD drive
  15. Thanks yes - have rolled back drivers, disabled all security apps, and have no add-ons.
  16. Indeed - it's all going a bit far for my liking - and could end up creating more problems than it solves:-)
  17. Me too. It just struck - beforehand I'd had 3 good weeks of trouble-free flying at good quality rates. I took a 3 week break, then bang! Nothing works after about 70% load of launching flights. It's a complete mystery. I had promised myself to let it lie and return in a year, but it keeps nagging away at the back of my mind;-)
  18. I too have noticed from dumpfiles (after MSFS freezes) that there are mentions of permissions 'denied' that have lead to a crash. How one deals with that is a very good question. It is nearly a month now that I have been unable to launch a single flight!
  19. Yes except that it hasn't fixed it for me, and by reading this and other forums, the problem remains for other users after WU6 too.
  20. Yes indeed - when it becomes available in England for my machine I will do so. Whether it fixes the problem or not remains to be seen.
  21. Glad to hear that you have solved your problem, and interesting to hear how.
  22. Thanks to all the good suggestions made here - much appreciated. No matter what I try makes any difference so looks like it's a case of either reinstalling Windows 10, and/or getting an improved graphics card + more RAM, and eventually a dedicated SSD to install FS on. In the meantime - a miracle might just happen:-)
  23. Thanks Republic3D. I should have mentioned that my Windows is installed on a Samsung SSD 860 EVO 250GB (250 GB, SATA-III). Just not big enough for the simulator as well. You are correct that the graphics card is low spec, but it still did a very good job when I was running MSFS 2020 in September - setting all on High, with reasonable frame rates - no problems flying at all for 3 weeks. I will keep trying...
  24. Thanks gb09f - yes I did try the system file checker last week. It actually found and corrected 3 errors. My community folder is empty; I have no add-ons at all. For the past few weeks I have had zero success loading a flight, whereas before that I had 3 weeks of problem free flying at high quality.
