As for the actual topic, I can only say that even in 2024 and 2025, and beyond, you can still enjoy an "old" simulator. There are communities that still enjoy FS 2004 today. For me, FSX and P3D are still just as relevant as they were 10 years ago. I’ll be straightforward: I like the visuals of P3D v5. I enjoy flying with it. I wish there were a few more aircraft addons, but I’m fine with it. And I love these gems. Some time ago, I bought the iFly 737NG. The QW 787, Majestic… all great addons that are really fun. Now that Orbx is having their annual sale, I will be picking up more for P3D. It’s possible that the current, or let’s say “older,” FS 2020 looks better right out of the box. But for me, it’s about the flying… as long as the overall feeling is right (I can’t describe it any other way), I’m happy. Photo scenery always looks great, but FS 2020 and 24 show that without a server or internet, you don’t get much out of it. Auto-Ortho in X-Plane is nice, but not always optimal. I like the rendering in P3D with the Orbx textures, landclasses, and vectors. For me, that’s the representation that’s just good and strikes a nice balance between storage space, hardware requirements, and quality. First and foremost, I’m sitting in the plane and navigating. That’s what brings me joy. And for me, P3D is not dead. As long as people are still flying with it and talking about it, everything is good. On the contrary, I often feel more comfortable in P3D forums because it’s calmer, more laid-back... the mass influx is over. Now, only the enthusiasts are left.

Hi, just a quick note from my side regarding this post... I just feel like I need to say something. I’m currently using FS 2020, XP11, XP12, and P3D v5. How does one come to say (a) that X-Plane is ‘inferior’? I understand anyone who says, ‘I prefer Simulator A over B because…’ but inferior? Today, we’re fortunate enough to have a variety of simulators to choose from. And yes, I have to accept that some people express their disregard for competition in this way, but to me, it quickly crosses into disrespect for users as well. When I call a program inferior, in my view, I’m also demeaning its users. Because essentially, I’m implying that they’d rather use something inferior than something of higher quality. I find such a perspective and judgment quite terrible. Even though, unfortunately, it’s becoming the norm online. And (b) To say that Toliss and Hotstart aren’t on the same level as Fenix... sorry, I don’t get that at all. The Challenger not on par… sorry, but I have to assume the person doesn’t actually have the Challenger, and Toliss is an excellent system simulation. Yes, it has some graphical weaknesses; there’s no need to argue that. But it’s easily on the same level as the Fenix. And as for the countless addons required for XP12... sorry, but that’s just empty bashing. The idea that no one will switch from FS 2020 to XP… no clue. I couldn’t care less. But to kick other simulators and their users like that – I find that shabby, even though it’s normal online. Sometimes, I feel that while Asobo has done a great job expanding the community with FS 2020, the tone has become deplorable.

Thank you all for your answers. Well, after thinking a lot I decided I go for the NG Base package. Over the next month I might get the expansion pack as well (but there are not much liveries... didn't found one for the BJJs 😕) and I am pretty sure that on christimas day I will fly the Max - lets hope so. One or two points in the end were the discount as FSX buyer and years ago I bought the FS2Crew package and never really used it. I had bought it for the aerosoft A320 in FSX. In the moment Patco Lch wrote that there is the FS2Crew available I had a look into my bought FS2Crew package and there it is mentioned for the iFly 737ng. So I hope I finally also will try that. But before I have to learn the handling of the 737ng... it is years ago I flew them in FSX. But so far I got it installed. Found a nice livery and had some clicks in the EFB. Seems it is time to reactivate my navigraph subscription and get into the air. Thanks again and happy landings you all!

Now I am sad that PMDG is not longer selling the NGXu but on the other hand it sounds really good what I read about the ifly... well seems I have to figure out which variants I really want to fly. Normally I try to do some Luxair flights but they use the 738 and the Max 😅 "in my opinion, go with the planes you think you will enjoy more. I think they are a great value either way." Thats a good to hear. In the end it seems it should be a no brainer in any case.

Hello all, I am using P3D v5.4. So far I am flying the aerosoft A320/321/A330 and A2A Comanche and the Dash by Majestic. I'd like to buy a 737 addon. I can't find the PMDG P3D products any longer in their shop. Back in FSX I had the ifly 737 package which I really liked. So I think I will buy them. I know the differences between the ng models and the Max in the real world. But my question is looking from perspective how well the plane is modeled and texturized inside and outside - are there differences between 737ng and Max? Could you say that one is more optimized for P3D v5 than the other? Do both have Simbrief integration? I would like to have this because I know this from the Toliss in X-Plane. Are there EFBs with the possibility of showing charts? From point of view of the variants I would go with the 737ng + expansion package but if for example the Max is the better addon meaning better optimized then I would go for the max.
