Hello everyone,
I am posting this to share my personal experience with the VRS TacPack in 2026, as there is still a lot of outdated or conflicting information stating that the product can no longer be purchased or activated.
Based on my own testing, purchase and activation are still possible for FSX Steam Edition, although the product is clearly legacy software.
How the purchase link was obtained
The TacPack purchase option is no longer visible on the current VRS website.
To verify whether the product was truly discontinued or only hidden, I used the Wayback Machine (Internet Archive) to browse older versions of the official VRS website.
By loading a version of the site from approximately one year earlier, I was able to:
Access the original “Buy TacPack” button
Click the purchase button as it existed at that time
See the exact URL that the button redirected to
That button redirected to the official VRS licensing page hosted by SoftwareKey, which is still online and functional.
Official purchase link
The purchase was completed using the following link:
https://secure.softwarekey.com/solo/products/LicenseAgreement.aspx?ProdOptionID=13140
The transaction completed normally, and a license key (serial) was sent by email.
Installation and activation
Installation was done using the official VRS TacPack installer
Activation occurred during the installation process
No separate activation tool was required
The activation required:
License key
VRS account email
VRS account password (used as the activation password)
After installation:
FSX Steam Edition was started normally
The TacPack menu appeared under:
Add-ons → VRS → TacPack
The product is fully functional in-sim.
Important note about support
The VRS TacPack is a legacy product and no longer receives official support from VRS.
This means:
No official technical support
No bug fixes or updates
Any issues must be handled by the user or through community forums
Anyone purchasing it today should be comfortable using unsupported legacy software.
Additional notes
DX10 Preview is not recommended for stability
TacPack only works with compatible aircraft (e.g. VRS F/A-18)
Despite its age, licensing and activation are still operational
Conclusion
Even in 2026, the VRS TacPack can still be legitimately purchased and activated for FSX Steam Edition, provided the user understands that it is unsupported legacy software.
I hope this information helps others who were unsure whether it was still possible.
