Honeycomb Bravo trim wheel not detected: check the loose center screw / slipping hubI recently had a problem with the trim wheel on my Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant. Everything else worked correctly: all throttle axes; buttons and switches; autopilot controls; annunciator lights. However, the trim wheel produced no input at all. It was not detected in the X-Plane 12 joystick settings, and neither trim-wheel direction showed any button activity. Changing assignments, reinstalling the Honeycomb plugin and testing different aircraft did not help. The actual causeThe trim wheel itself was not properly connected mechanically to the internal hub. The large external wheel could rotate freely, but the center screw holding it against the internal washer/hub had become loose. As a result, the visible wheel was simply slipping around the fastener while the internal part connected to the encoder remained stationary. So the wheel appeared to rotate normally, but the encoder received no movement and sent no button inputs to X-Plane. How I fixed itI disconnected the Bravo from USB. I carefully opened the housing enough to inspect the trim-wheel mechanism. I checked whether the internal hub rotated together with the external wheel. I tightened the center screw securing the wheel to the internal hub/washer. After reassembly, both trim-wheel directions were immediately detected again in X-Plane. Quick diagnosisThis may be your problem if: every other Bravo control works; the trim wheel rotates, but produces no input; neither direction lights up in X-Plane joystick settings; the wheel feels unusually free or appears to rotate independently from the internal hub. Before assuming that the encoder or electronics have failed, check whether the external trim wheel is actually turning the internal mechanism. Important warningDisconnect the unit before opening it. Opening the housing may affect your warranty. Do not overtighten the screw, especially if it clamps against plastic parts.
