This is a quick tutorial on how to setup and use PMDG 777 SP1 Datalink function in conjunction with PFPX and ASN in an integrated and automated workflow. This is simply a suggested workflow that I use, I don't claim that this is the only or the most proper workflow for integration between those applications. Hopefully you find it useful and can customize it based on your own personal preferences. Initial Configuration In ASN select Auto load simulator flight plan, we will use this feature later in the process. In FSX, load PMDG 777 SP1 and make sure the following options are selected: MENU > PMDG SETUP > AIRCRAFT > EQUIPMENT on pages 12 & 13: MENU > PMDG SETUP > OPTIONS > SIMULATION: For FSX PLN FILE FOR WXR option: Choose CREATE AND LOAD TO FSX The worflow steps Assuming you have no active PFPX weather subscription or if you prefer to use ASN weather in PFPX, open ASN and choose WX Configuration > Save Weather File. That saves a global weather file that PFPX can use in the next step for proper route and fuel planning. Open PFPX, make sure it uses ASN weather (not its own weather subscription). Create the flight plan in PFPX as usual, it only needs to be exported in one format: PMDG route format The above action creates a flight plan in PMDG format (.rte) and places is it in [FSX]\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS. In this case it will be [FSX]\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\CYVRPHNL01.rte 3. In FSX, inside PMDG 777 SP1 use the RTE > REQUEST ROUTE feature to load, accept and activate the flight plan we created in step 2 (e.g. [FSX]\PMDG\FLIGHTPLANS\CYVRPHNL01.rte). Now everything that PMDG 777 SP1 requires for different weather uplink connectivity is done. You only need to read on, if you'd like to know how all that magic between PFPX, PMDG 777 SP1 and ASN happened. By loading the flight plan in PMDG 777 SP1 FMS, there are a few things that happened behind the scene, courtesy of the new features in SP1 and integration to ASN: When PMDG 777 SP1 loads the .rte flight plan created by PFPX, it automatically creates and loads a flight plan in FSX format (.pln) to FSX. This is based on the options that we selected in step 3 above. The location for this file is [username]\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\WX.PLN Step 'a', in turn, triggers ASN to load the flight plan automatically. This happens because of the option we selected in step 1 in ASN. Step 'b', in turn triggers creation of a weather file by ASN, that weather file is the file that PMDG 777 SP1 requires for the weather portion of datalink functionality, ASN will create that file in [FSX]\PMDG\WX\xxxxyyyy.wx Everything we did above is to get the following weather file (auto) generated for PMDG 777 SP1: [FSX]\PMDG\WX\xxxxyyyy.wx For all weather related uplinks in PMDG 777 SP1 to work, it requires a WX file in [FSX]\PMDG\WX folder, the filename is xxxxyyyy.wx where xxxx is ICAO code for Origin and yyyy is the ICAO code for Destination. Hello everybody, I have an important problem because I cannot finish my flights with the 777-300ER (and the 200LR of course) I start the flight without any problem but after around 2-3 hours my FSX crash and ASN too with the "ASN cannot control ambiant weather..." message. I have this message (and the FS crash) also when I request the Altn Wx in the FMC I had update my register FSUIPC version to the lastest version and nothong better Does anyone have an idea ? Beacause I can't fly this aircraft and its weather radar... It's very frustating ! Sorry for my English Erwan

Hello, Does anyone have any experience using ASN with REX essentials plus overdrive? The reason I ask is because I already have REX but want to use the ASN as the weather engine. My question is Do i have to get REX4 in order to use ASN or can I somehow use ASN with REX Essentials? Thank you

Recently I have purchased and loaded up Active Sky Next, FTX Global and REX4. The scenery is a continuous water world with mountainous seas and waterlogged airports. Where do I go from here? Scrub FSX off my hard drive? Start again and check each program? Cannot get GSX or UAE to work with REX4. Not a happy pilot Oscar de Wyldde

Hi, I export my flightplan from PFPX to: - FSX format (.pln) - PMDG 777 format Then I load the FSX .pln into ASN: I would have 3 questions: 1) I don't understand why all my flight plans have FL180... which turns to be the transition altitude and not the cruise altitude? 2) I know it's a dumb question but do I have to change manually within ASN: Cruise KTS, Climb FPM, Climb KTAS, Descent FPM, Descent KTAS? 3) I read that ASN has an interpolation feature. So I understand that it is capable of detecting the position of the aircraft. So why do I need to load a flight plan? Does it help to have a more accurate weather?

After about a month back on P3D v2.2 I am not certain that I have the "perfect" settings needed to make me %100 happy.....Here are my hardware & addons i7 3930k OC@ 4.3 GTX780 16GB 1600MHz RAM ASN, REX TD4, FTX GLOBAL+VECTOR, FSDT JFK/LAX/LSGG Few things I would like to discuss.... I really can't confirm if I am better off doing unlimited FPS or 30 with 1/2 refresh rate Inspector or Control Panel setup Affinity Mask settings manual, or prepared.cfg tweak Here is a still of my NI....would anybody do anything else to make a better performance? Of course turning down sliders would do this but I believe I am missing a tweak or settings that would make my P3D v2.2 a lot better. Or maybe forget NI and use the Control Panel of Nvidea (which I am seeing a lot more of online...) Here are some stills. I have also a Fibre Frame Time tweak of 0.15 applied (this helped quite a bit and got rid of some blurry issues) I would love for people to share their settings that worked out best for them. Keep in mind I am not really willing to compromise my graphics to get a better performance, of course I am aware that doing that would give me better frames. My hardware SHOULD give me good if not unreal performance since this is a new sim that came with many promises. At this point however, Id say it looks the same as FSX with just as good frames (if not worst at times).....I wouldn't give up my FSX just yet if this is all P3D v2.2 can give me...Am I doing something wrong?

Now that we have weather radar integration into the PMDG 777, will we see predictive and reactive windshear alerts with Active Sky Next? As this feature is available using the X-Gauge installer, it would be nice if it could be integrated into the PMDG cockpit. Regards.

Out of the blue I have these errors appearing when I start my ASN. I have tried opening it after FSX and before. Also I have updated to latest version. I also have looked at permissions on each folder path possible. It seems as if it works perfectly fine but I'm getting these errors at start up. First this one: Then this one:

I have just installed and only gotten in one flight thus far with ASN. I have the "turbulence chop" effects in Accu-Feel (A2A) and the random turbulence in FSUIPC both set to "on" at various levels. Should they both be turned off when using the same effects in ASN? Right now I have ASN set to realistic wx with some small variations of my own. BTW, with only one flight in, I can say I do like the greatly improved low level haze and cloud redraws (or visible lack thereof). Looks to be a winner thus far.

Hi Avsim! I have been experiencing a weird bug recently that has started to really annoy me. Whenever I've been flying my fighter jets (aircraft with Tacpack enabled), I have gotten this weird bucking action without any steering input where my vertical speed would be all over the place at times, to the point where the pilot would be seeing red from all the negative g's the aircraft was pulling. Apart from being very irritating, it affects my aim. I also have accufeel and Active Sky Next running, although I have tried running without both and the problem still persists. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi, guys! I'm not used to post my screenshots in the forum, but I thought this was worth showing... I took a break from flight simulation for several months. At that time, I already had Active Sky Next, but without any of the service packs... Now that I'm flying a bit again, I installed the SP1 and SP2... and, a couple of days ago, I was blown away by what I saw in my virtual skies. Take a look at these cloud formations. I'm hoping that the screenies will talk for themselves. I've never seen something like this in any FS. (I promise you I'm not being paid to tell these things btw  )... This all happened in a flight with the Triple 7 between Auckland and Sydney. Oh, a little bonus... in another flight, while approaching YSSY, I saw this in the ND... Anyway. My congratulations for the guys that made these things possible. Best regards,

Hello, I use wireless connection through a (Netgear wireless external USB adapter). I pay my neighbor and use her wireless internet and do not have a hard wired connection to my router from a modem etc. I recently networked 2 computers together through my router. I cannot access the internet with a browser....ALSO- Active Sky Next- will not download real time weather unless I disable TCP/IPv4 through the local area connection "properties" box. This will allow an internet connection AND ASN will download weather as it should. The reason I networked the computers together is to run Simplugins' "EFIS Panel Builder" and a wireless "FMC" program remotely to increase my frame-rates (wideview also installed with plans for that down the road). Problem I have is the Efis Panel builder will not connect between the 2 computers when TCP/IPv4 is disabled. If I enable TCP/IPv4, the EFIS Panel Builder works just fine, but I cannot download realtime weather. My question is: How can I reconfigure the Efis Panel builder, router or computers to use TCP/IPv6? Or maybe set some static IP through my Netgear router? I am just not very good with networks and IP addresses etc. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Larry PS- I noticed the "Multicast Group Address" setting in Panel Builder can be changed. Hopefully this could be something fairly easy to setup.

I installed P3D for the first time today on a brand new build system. I also installed Active sky next for P3D. The installation went fine but when I doubleclick on the icon to run ASN nothing happens. No matter how many times I try on the shortcut or in the root folder.. I reinstalled, no help. I passed ASN through the firewall but nor that helped. ASN does not show up in the task manager nither. It simply doesnt react when I try to start it. Thanks for your help

Hi. I am having problems with my recently purcased logitech g430 headset , i can only get the sounds working in surround sound for about 15 mins in FSX , before it corrupts the sounds, also i can get it setup in vpilot easy enough , and gives excellent sounds , but comms with atc can suddenly stop working without warning , and in TS3 i get an echo that is imposible to stop . If anyone has this headset and got it fully working reliably with FSX/ASN/VPILOT/TS3 , could you please let me know how you have the settings , and the driver you are useing , so i can see where i am going wrong . Also are you using it plugged in directly using the jacks or with the supplied usb adaptor . I have tried everything i can think off to get it working without success sofar , i submitted a ticket with logitech , but they have been usless with their response . regards alan cottrill. SO666.

Hello Community! MD-11 is getting attention again! This is good news. it is a show to the makers of this noble aircraft, that they really did something right. Even after so many years of its publication, it is still in good use of the simmer community, including me. I just love that aircraft! I was wondering, where should I write, or from whom could I could request a weather radar integrated into the MD-11 cockpit, like they have in the B737- and B777- series? I am sure that that little extra detail would boost up it's sales, as well as ASN's sales.

Hello everyone, I have recently run asn on a networked pc. It says sim connected and all the files are shared and writable. When I run test using manual weather, using the rain drops preset, the clouds pop up, but the rain doesn't come. The tarmac turns all shiney, but no rain falls. When I go into map, no rain shows up on the display (dbz turned on) All the ports are unblocked. Thanks in advance, 1251452

Hi All, I'm in a very unfortunate situation. I recently purchased a new FSX machine and PC to run as a client for programs such as EFB, Active Sky etc. Ive always ran active sky over a network and never had any problems. I set the original networked install up my self. Since buying these new machines I cannot for the life of me get ASN to connect to FSX.. It just says waiting for simulator in orange. This is driving me round the bend as im fairly confident I've done everything correct but maybe not lol.. Here's some specs of my install Main FSX PC - Win 7 64 bit AS_Connect is installed FSX Version: MSFSX: Acceleration: 10.0.61637.0 MSFSX Acceleration SDK Version: 10.0.61637.0 Note - FSX is classic boxed edition Secondry non fsx gaming PC - Win 7 64 bit SimConnect Versions installed: 10.0.60905.0 || 10.0.61242.0 || 10.0.61259.0 ASN Version: Active Sky Next for FSX SP2 Am I missing something here... I'm loosing my mind lol! Oh and by the way Avilasoft EFB is fully operational and functional over the network using simconnect.. Live map, airport etc everything works perfectly Please help!

This A2A Cessna 182 is a beast; quick, gets in and out anywhere, hauls a good load... I love it! From my hometown airport, CZVL to KPSP with a fuel stop along the way. A VFR flight, that got a little cloudy and rainy as we got to Palm Springs. Made it in though!! P3D does amaze me. It's quite the step up from FSX! Clouds starting to drop a bit now... Descending to try and stay legal! Sun going down, and you can see we're way off track, skirting around the mountains trying to stay under the clouds And we did make it down just fine, rolling out on 13L at PSP. Quick stop overnight and off to Wyoming to check out Devil's Tower!

Hi All, Took up a couple of beauties into the P3D skies around dusk for some fun flying. I know there are many folks right now on the fence deciding if making the switch to P3D from FSX/FS9 is worth while and I can honestly say, once you've got your sliders set to give the best performance/visuals, sticking with P3D will be an easy decision. The days of cracking open the .cfg file to wring that last ounce of performance are behind me and I've been having more fun playing "pin the tail on the sectional" and finding some places to fly out of/into. Enjoy the screenshots and whatever your sim platform of choice is, post up your shots and share your story!! Mike Aerosoft Airbus A319 in Spirit "Bare Fare" colors (not that you can see it so trust me "Blasting" out of KOTH (Northbend, OR) ...well, as much as a Q400 can blast out. Stock P3D water shot. Not the best but you get a good idea what P3D can offer "out of the box". Climb thrust set; making our way to KEUG (Eugene, OR) Yep, this right here is what you call a left turn. Executed "like a boss" (props to SNL) OK, I'm not ashamed to say it....I missed all the final approach fixes for runway 34R at KEUG so here I am making my way back to the initial fix to get lined up for landing. Gear coming down and shortly, a successful end to a great day of fun flying. My "lead FA" called me for dinner. Happy wife...happy life!!
