  1. I'm a bit confused now because PMDG told that ASN is the only weather that support for PMDG weather radar because if you use another weather radar it's inaccurate because it show a precipit but in fact its cloud, because other weather radar dont have ability to detect precipit, only precipit. now i m a bit confused with PMDG right know. So the story is,someone asked for why his Weather Radar is not working, and yes he didnt use ASN and he showed a picture a thin cloud like cirrus, and after that i told that not every cloud showed in WX radar, only cloud that have a precipt in there, after that GUESS WHAT?they blame me that i'm a stupid man that dont know about WX Radar, bla bla la... and yes i am indeed got bullied. and now im a bit confused with PMDG?Did you really need ASN to make weather radar?i m not going to blame you directly, but im a bit confused right now.. and what do you thinking about ASN and PMDG? I am very appreciated your answer
  2. Hi All, Finally got my P3D install right where I like it (for now :-) ) and was very impressed by the mood ASN and REX were providing me so I started snapping shots. Here are the few that really stood out from the bunch. Enjoy! Mike The great wall of cloud
  3. Hello everyone. As everyone know , Rex is working on new weather engine Rex Weather Direct. I bought Rex 4 texture yesterday and looking for weather engine. ASN has %20 discount on their products. I can buy ASN without upgrade(doesnt have money for upgrade) or should I wait for Rex weather engine?. I think Rex weather engine will has better compatibility with Rex 4 texture. I would like to see your suggestions.
  4. Hello, Does anyone have any experience using ASN with REX essentials plus overdrive? The reason I ask is because I already have REX but want to use the ASN as the weather engine. My question is Do i have to get REX4 in order to use ASN or can I somehow use ASN with REX Essentials? Thank you
  5. Hi, I export my flightplan from PFPX to: - FSX format (.pln) - PMDG 777 format Then I load the FSX .pln into ASN: I would have 3 questions: 1) I don't understand why all my flight plans have FL180... which turns to be the transition altitude and not the cruise altitude? 2) I know it's a dumb question but do I have to change manually within ASN: Cruise KTS, Climb FPM, Climb KTAS, Descent FPM, Descent KTAS? 3) I read that ASN has an interpolation feature. So I understand that it is capable of detecting the position of the aircraft. So why do I need to load a flight plan? Does it help to have a more accurate weather?
  6. I have noticed when flying in the Los Angeles Basin that the visibility is generally much less than the metar. For example, the metar will read 10+ SM or even 20 SM but my visibility can be 5 or less SM. Has anyone else had this experience? I have seen some videos on the youtubes where the haze caused the reduced visibility, not the clouds, but the reduced visibility was also noted in the metar. It is my understanding that the haze should be taken into account by the metar so I am not sure if this is an ASN issue or a P3D issue or neither. I have minimum visibility at 0 and maximum visibility at 75 SM. If someone else can duplicate this issue then please let me know so I can post in the ASN or P3D forums. Ryan
  7. Hello everybody, I have an important problem because I cannot finish my flights with the 777-300ER (and the 200LR of course) I start the flight without any problem but after around 2-3 hours my FSX crash and ASN too with the "ASN cannot control ambiant weather..." message. I have this message (and the FS crash) also when I request the Altn Wx in the FMC I had update my register FSUIPC version to the lastest version and nothong better Does anyone have an idea ? Beacause I can't fly this aircraft and its weather radar... It's very frustating ! Sorry for my English Erwan
  8. Hi ! Is there any good reviews on weather generators lately, FS Global RW ,REX, REX4, ASN, OPUS ? I would really like to read some reviews that comparing the products with pro's & con's and preferably related withs P3D. Cheers Bigsweede Sweden
  9. I installed Active Sky Next and now when I launch FSX, it crashes. I uninstalled ASN and FSX launched successfully and quickly. Not surew what file is causing problems but it seems associated with the installation of ASN.
  10. I have just installed and only gotten in one flight thus far with ASN. I have the "turbulence chop" effects in Accu-Feel (A2A) and the random turbulence in FSUIPC both set to "on" at various levels. Should they both be turned off when using the same effects in ASN? Right now I have ASN set to realistic wx with some small variations of my own. BTW, with only one flight in, I can say I do like the greatly improved low level haze and cloud redraws (or visible lack thereof). Looks to be a winner thus far.
  11. Hello all, I have noticed for a while flying usually when climbing is clouds flickering or flashing around mountains looks awful and obviously not realistic. I understand this is known as the z-buffer... Not much I can do? I notice these clouds r usually flat as well... Gavin Boothroyd
  12. Hi gents, Just want to share what I experienced yesterday during a flight from LSZH to LIRP in a PMDG 737. Approx at FL200, ASN was throwing at me an heavy thunderstorm with lot of rain that I didn't want to avoid because of its negligible extension on the wx radar (my bad). Normally I can't hear the sound of rain hitting the windshiels because of the engines and ventilation background noise, but yesterday, suddenly I noticed out of my windshield a different kind of rain (PrecipitFX), thicker and with sort of a "tunnel effect" in it. Loudspeakers volume was quite high and all of a sudden they produced a loud crackling sound like hail hitting the windshield of your car...but way louder. I realized I was passing through an hail storm: I must admit, absolutely realistic (and startling) IMO. I know that ASN mimics hail audio effect, but guys! I'm an ASN loyal user since FSX years, but it never happened to me running into an hail storm. I landed safely at Pisa, even if nasty FSPassengers triggered a speedbrakes failure at touchdown (maybe beacuse of the hail storm? No clue). Amazing uneventful flight (lot of FSP well-deserved pilot points). Has anybody experienced this with ASN? Happy flying.
  13. Hello Community! MD-11 is getting attention again! This is good news. it is a show to the makers of this noble aircraft, that they really did something right. Even after so many years of its publication, it is still in good use of the simmer community, including me. I just love that aircraft! I was wondering, where should I write, or from whom could I could request a weather radar integrated into the MD-11 cockpit, like they have in the B737- and B777- series? I am sure that that little extra detail would boost up it's sales, as well as ASN's sales.
  14. I installed P3D for the first time today on a brand new build system. I also installed Active sky next for P3D. The installation went fine but when I doubleclick on the icon to run ASN nothing happens. No matter how many times I try on the shortcut or in the root folder.. I reinstalled, no help. I passed ASN through the firewall but nor that helped. ASN does not show up in the task manager nither. It simply doesnt react when I try to start it. Thanks for your help

  16. Hello Pilots & Carenado Experts! I own amongst to other aircrafts, the fabulous Carenado F406 Caravan II. It is a very fine aircraft and my favorite plane. Furthermore, I bought the Flight1 GTN 750 and have it successful integrated (F1GTN750F406II.exe) into the F406. Everything is working fine, SimStarter NG, ASN, the F406 including the GTN 750 and all my fantastic sceneries and tools but ... ... the included Weather Radar of the F406 does not work! I can press every button, turn the controller, especially to the ON Position, but the display remains blank. The device is definitely without function! There is nothing that I have changed to the plane, except the GTN 750 integration. By the way, I only fly with my Oculus Rift DK2, so I use only the VC and no 2D gauges! Now to my Questions: 1. Is there really a full weather Radar integrated or is it only compatible and I have to/must buy this WR tool? 2. Is there someone else with this problem? 3. Is there a solution to get the device run? I use for example the following Addons/Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit AMD FX8370 MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC (newest driver) 16 GByte RAM FSX Steam Edition (everything on a 500GB SSD) Carenado F406 Caravan II Active Sky Next (via Steam) Flight1 GTN 750 SimStarterNG FlyInside (for my Oculus Rift DK2) ..and much more I dont use DirectX 10, only DirectX9 settings (because the Rift DK2). I have a zipped File with some INI´s and CFG´s but I dont know, how I could upload it inside this thread? I hope someone can/would help me! Best wishes from EDHK, Marco P.S.: Sorry for my bad english but school is over since a lot of years!
  17. Good news. The following quote is from the ASN website: "ASN SP2 Development Update: February 1, 2015: Over the past months we have been working on a complete re-design of the ASConnect code for better performance and compatibility with FSX:Steam Edition. We've also been preparing several other improvements and fixes to all be included in Service Pack 2. We have completed the ASConnect re-design, and we are currently ironing out the last remaining issues. This has been a difficult update, as we've been up against stability and freeze problems in FSX:SE even plain/default without any add-on including ASN. Fortunately we have been improving stability more each day, Dovetail has been active with updates, and we should be ready to begin official internal beta in the next few days. We are planning to expedite the public availability of the update, by releasing it in "Open Beta" form before the official release. This open beta period is likely to start within 1-2 weeks after initial beta starts (so that's around Feb 10-15). Unfortunately, as much as we'd like to guarantee this timeline, we cannot. Rest assured we're working very hard on getting this update to you as soon as we can achieve a proper level of stability."
  18. Howdee all, Another day, another random departure/arrival kind of flight. Today we moved our operations East and departed from KLGA off runway 04 and unbeknownst to me, I dialed in an initial heading of 030 and flew along for a while then though, "hmmmm...going to need a place to land" so on the FMC I randomly entered in our arrival airport of CYQB and once finished tweaking my legs, I was happy to see I was pretty much on course. I didn't take any shots departing the New York area but will capture some on the next flight out. Enjoy the shots! Mike PS - I don't get around to it enough (but I'm trying to change that!!) and I just wanted to take a second to say this. To everyone who takes the time to share the screen captures from their flights and to everyone who takes the time to post a comment up on mine, thank you! We are a great community.
  19. Hello! I've been playing with the 777 in FSX-SE since the update for ASN came out, and I just noticed something. I have the option "FSX PLAN FILE FOR WX" set to "CREATE AND LOAD TO FSX". The software actually does create a .PLN file, but I've found that it places the file in the Legacy FSX Files folder instead, resulting in the flightplan not being imported to FSX-SE and, subsequently, to ASN for .WX file generation. I'm running the latest version of 777-200LR (build 6320) and ASN SP2 Beta on FSX-SE Mode (build 5527 (I just got aware that it's already outdated)). Has anyone else noticed this?
  20. Hi All, A week-end spent trying to reduce the popcorn cloud visuals in P3D and I think I've run out of juice. With all the test flights I took today in various aircraft as I was tweaking, this one stuck out from the rest for some reason. Climbing through FL220 heading towards KSEA. Enjoy! Mike
  21. I'm not a member on HiFi's forum, but I saw this posted elsewhere as a quote from their site. "With FS, we've worked about 12 years now on refining and improving depiction, improving our understanding of the depiction systems of FS, finding work-arounds to problems, etc. With X-Plane it's entirely different and we are starting from scratch. Weather stations, depiction modes, global vs. station based considerations, transitions, ambient wx control, cloud position capability, visibility effects, vertical air, effects in general, etc... these are things that are all specific to a sim and in X-Plane, much of what we've done in FS may not be possible at all. On the other hand, new things never possible with FS may now be realized. Hopefully by mid year we'll have a clearer direction on X-Plane and will be able to share further details". Here's the link: http://www.hifitechinc.com/forums/showthread.php?4341-Any-chance-of-an-X-Plane-product I really hope this happens. Weather is pretty much the only thing I want x-plane to improve on. P.s If anyone here is a member of their forum, please post more details (if there are any).
  22. Well title says it .! Especially with the WXR feature ASN is on my buying list. But Opus looks really nice as well!

  24. Hi all, Just updated ASN for FSX. From an flight KJFK to EHAM a found the actual ASN wind speed at FL 370 very low. (live mode) If you compare the speed with the PFPX info and the RTE DATA page on the PMDG 747 V3 http://imgur.com/a/zMPa5
  25. Even if I usually appreciate Kyle's massages, in this case I tend partly to disagree ("no S-turns" is okay for me). Due to the fact that I bought the T7 I decided to upgrade my AS2012 to Active Sky NEXT in order to enjoy the weather radar function. However, since I'm using ASN I'm experiencing quite often landing situations with my PMDG 737NGX, neither me nor the autopilot are able to cope with. It's always the same: At short final just a second or two before the upcoming touch-down the aircraft rolls immediately clockwise in a quite unrealistic way. The necessary moment of inertia shouldn't allow such a move - else I never would fly again in reality. Even if I'm alerted there is in most cases no time or even the slightest chance to react (autolanding does show the same effects and the a/p is overstrained, too). I have no turbulence effects turned on in FSX, FSUIPC is set to smoothen turbulences, ASN has the same settings as I used in AS2012 (10% for max wind shear and wake turbulence strenght), and there are no aircraft that could cause wake effects in front of me and if so I would know how to deal with the flight path. Any advice or recommended settings that would allow effects reflecting a bit better the reality would be appreciated. BTW, as far as I understand some contributions in the AS forum, there are some other aircraft (e.g. the buses of Aerosoft) having problems as well, others are unaffected.
