  1. So I am having a bit of a problem with ASN. When I first start up steam, it gives me the “xml issue” message telling me to delete/change my dll.xml file. When I fly the simulator and it loads up, I either get no message with no working ASN or I get the “ambient control issue” message. I tried verifying the files for FSX and also reinstalling ASN. Any help is appreciated.
  2. A few random screenshots (completely unretouched) from today's flight between YBCG (Coolangatta) and YBCS (Cairns) and the FSLabs A320. I started the flight using the REX weather engine included in Skyforce but kept running into the .net issue. Also, from my experience from my first test (yesterday) wih Skyforce, the weather injections and redraws were painfully abrupt and jarring. Tested the same flight (LFMN to EGKK) with ASN and Skyforce and the resulting weather was much smoother during updates. For now (until the REX team sorts the issues with the built-in engine) I will be using Skyforce and ASN. Some of the CBs departing Coolangatta were quite intimidating to look at and if one combined them with the OPUS FSI camera and the FSLabs soundset for the A320 the result was not for the faint-hearted I hope these show up as this is my first time using the particular hosting site.
  3. I recently bought Active Sky Next and everything was working just fine when flying the PMDG 777 out of OMAA when FSX crashes. Nothing showed up in the Event Viewer or on AppCrashView. I decided to try that again with ASN off and everything worked just fine. Best Regards, AbdulRahman

  5. Hello fellow FSX:SE users. I've recently been going through some trial and error with freeware weather engines and I think I'm ready to upgrade to ASN. I was going to post on the HiFi Simulations forum but I believe that their forum is restricted to people who already own the product. So, hopefully this is the right place. I recently bought the 737 NGX and I fly it almost exclusively now. The only problem is that when I want to fly out of my addon airports, I take a big hit on my fps. My solution: Adjust all of the weather sliders to the minimum setting. This works fine for me, I mostly use fsx as a procedural trainer with the NGX so I don't really need to look out the window and see 5 layers of gorgeous REX clouds, even if they are spectacularly soft and fluffy. If I'm forced to make a concession in regard to fps, I'd rather have low quality wx graphics and minimum settings to keep my aircraft and scenery settings as high as they can go. There is one major downside... no clouds, no fog, means NO ICE. I just pretend to be in icing conditions, which is a bummer but I guess I can live with that. A couple of weeks ago I started looking for freeware weather engines to get more accurate wind forecasts, and hopefully some good air effects. I found fsrealWx and fsmetar. I was pleasantly surprised with fsrealWx, but it leaves something to be desired in terms of user interface. It also has a nasty habit of causing a CTD when it updates the live weather. I've got workarounds that make this program functional, but the amount of effort required to set up a short 2hr flight seems a little excessive. In my research I've learned a lot about ASN, it looks AMAZING. But I assume most people who post on related forums have higher-end gear than I do, and are better acquainted with their systems. I would post my specs but then I'd have to look them up... I'm not a gearhead, I know next to nothing about hardware, I have a "gaming" laptop and that's good enough for me. Default aircraft and simpler payware models work like a charm with ALL of the sliders maxed out, I get 40-50fps at times. I only run into problems with HD addons and weather. If ASN were free, I'd just download it and see how it works. Sadly, funds are tight right now, so I'd like to get some more info before I make the leap. I've reviewed the manual and browsed several forums for information. I'm certain the bowels of the internet have all the answers somewhere, I'm probably just not savvy enough to find them. So here are my questions, any help is appreciated. What is the complete range of the settings in ASN? Lowest to highest cloud draw distance, cloud layers, precipitation effects, and any other relevant sliders. The manual refers to these settings but not in detail. Specifically, it doesn't mention how low they can actually go. If I can turn individual settings off completely that would give me countless possibilities. Does updating the weather have a noticeable performance impact on your machine? Any drop in fps, any CTDs, any OOM errors? The manual says this option is adjustable, but doesn't say if you can turn it off completely. With fsrealWx I just load the weather and then close the program to avoid this issue. I'd rather not have to do that with ASN. I love the way Active Sky handles turbulence, wind shear, icing, and other goodies. It looks like you're flying through actual air instead of the soup that default FSX provides. Do these effects limit performance in any way? Didn't seem like anybody specifically talked about this in the forums. I think my fsrealWx CTD issue is related to the way the program communicates with the simulator, namely FSUIPC. ASN has AS Connect, right? How does this work exactly? Is there anything I need to do with FSUIPC or AS Connect to get the most out of the product? ASN overwrites default FSX weather settings. FsrealWx also overwrites the default weather, but there seems to be a communication breakdown at high altitudes and the default weather tries to reassert itself, leading to absurd changes in wind speed and direction. I like to practice my trumpet at cruise and nothing sucks more than to be interrupted by an overspeed warning that would NEVER happen irl. Selecting "user defined weather" in the default menu sort of resolves this. ASN is undoubtedly more advanced fsrealWx, but can I expect to encounter any problems like this? Are there optimum FSX settings to increase performance while running ASN? WOW, sorry for the long post, probably could've knocked this out in a paragraph if I tried... I'm a long time avsim browser but this is my first post! I'm excited to finally get involved the sim community!

  7. Vectors vs SIDs questions for PRO Atc

Forgive me, I'm a PRO ATC/ ATC noob First question: Is there a way to only receive SIDs as opposed to receiving heading vectors sometimes? Second question: When I DO receive vectors, do I just enter the heading they tell me to into the MCP until they tell me to continue on the path programmed in the FMC? On that note, how do I know when they want me to do that? And I'd select LNAV, correct? Third question: What does "continue as filed" mean? Is it the answer to the question above? Thanks a lot!!
  8. Good evening, I've just finished flying VFR in Prepar3d while suddenly there were low flickering clouds appearing in the distance. This while the metar was showing overcast 3600 feet for current position, so there shouldn't be there. Picture of the low clouds: I would really like to know in which direction I should look for the solution. Thank you for thinking with me.
  9. Hi all, Just updated ASN for FSX. From an flight KJFK to EHAM a found the actual ASN wind speed at FL 370 very low. (live mode) If you compare the speed with the PFPX info and the RTE DATA page on the PMDG 747 V3
  10. Hi guys quite a few shots of UAE 971 from Dubai to Tehran. Misty in Dubai and thunder, rain and snow on approach to Tehran....everything but the kitchen sink...Anyway Enoy.
  11. Hello all, I have noticed for a while flying usually when climbing is clouds flickering or flashing around mountains looks awful and obviously not realistic. I understand this is known as the z-buffer... Not much I can do? I notice these clouds r usually flat as well... Gavin Boothroyd
  12. Hi gents, Just want to share what I experienced yesterday during a flight from LSZH to LIRP in a PMDG 737. Approx at FL200, ASN was throwing at me an heavy thunderstorm with lot of rain that I didn't want to avoid because of its negligible extension on the wx radar (my bad). Normally I can't hear the sound of rain hitting the windshiels because of the engines and ventilation background noise, but yesterday, suddenly I noticed out of my windshield a different kind of rain (PrecipitFX), thicker and with sort of a "tunnel effect" in it. Loudspeakers volume was quite high and all of a sudden they produced a loud crackling sound like hail hitting the windshield of your car...but way louder. I realized I was passing through an hail storm: I must admit, absolutely realistic (and startling) IMO. I know that ASN mimics hail audio effect, but guys! I'm an ASN loyal user since FSX years, but it never happened to me running into an hail storm. I landed safely at Pisa, even if nasty FSPassengers triggered a speedbrakes failure at touchdown (maybe beacuse of the hail storm? No clue). Amazing uneventful flight (lot of FSP well-deserved pilot points). Has anybody experienced this with ASN? Happy flying.
  13. Hello Pilots & Carenado Experts! I own amongst to other aircrafts, the fabulous Carenado F406 Caravan II. It is a very fine aircraft and my favorite plane. Furthermore, I bought the Flight1 GTN 750 and have it successful integrated (F1GTN750F406II.exe) into the F406. Everything is working fine, SimStarter NG, ASN, the F406 including the GTN 750 and all my fantastic sceneries and tools but ... ... the included Weather Radar of the F406 does not work! I can press every button, turn the controller, especially to the ON Position, but the display remains blank. The device is definitely without function! There is nothing that I have changed to the plane, except the GTN 750 integration. By the way, I only fly with my Oculus Rift DK2, so I use only the VC and no 2D gauges! Now to my Questions: 1. Is there really a full weather Radar integrated or is it only compatible and I have to/must buy this WR tool? 2. Is there someone else with this problem? 3. Is there a solution to get the device run? I use for example the following Addons/Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit AMD FX8370 MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC (newest driver) 16 GByte RAM FSX Steam Edition (everything on a 500GB SSD) Carenado F406 Caravan II Active Sky Next (via Steam) Flight1 GTN 750 SimStarterNG FlyInside (for my Oculus Rift DK2) ..and much more I dont use DirectX 10, only DirectX9 settings (because the Rift DK2). I have a zipped File with some INI´s and CFG´s but I dont know, how I could upload it inside this thread? I hope someone can/would help me! Best wishes from EDHK, Marco P.S.: Sorry for my bad english but school is over since a lot of years!
  14. hello, my ASN loads the weather when i open FSX in the following directory C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX but will not open where the 2nd copy of the game is located C:\FSX also when I first installed ASN I did it in the C:\FSX folder and then did it again because it poped up again, please help
  15. Hi guys, while in cruise I have a strange effect using ASN. Seems like if some clouds (not big ones, but little clouds especially) are not completely depicted and they become completed as long as my aircraft it's near them. I noted this effect especially on cruise in VC. Not tested in spot view. I'm using ASN with all default settings. It's a layer problem or something else in your opinion? It's not a popping effect (like in ASE), seems like if clouds is partially drawn and become complete as long as my aircraft approach them. Any helps or suggestion? Thanks so much in advance for your help.
  16. Weird flight model problem

Hi Avsim! I have been experiencing a weird bug recently that has started to really annoy me. Whenever I've been flying my fighter jets (aircraft with Tacpack enabled), I have gotten this weird bucking action without any steering input where my vertical speed would be all over the place at times, to the point where the pilot would be seeing red from all the negative g's the aircraft was pulling. Apart from being very irritating, it affects my aim. I also have accufeel and Active Sky Next running, although I have tried running without both and the problem still persists. Any ideas? Thank you!
  17. Hello dev team, you did an awesome job so far, but not with latest build 5921... I have stable 51 fps before updating to 5921. I have 25 fps lost with thunderstorm, rain, fog and some clouds, never had fps drops before build 5921! On ground 51 fps with heavy weather, when looking at clouds in wingview or vc 25 fps loss, that can't be, seriously. No fps hit before update in same weather, scenery, addons whatever, I tested it. Some guys in fb groups also have the same fps drops aswell. So, I am NOT the only one having this Performance problem. So please check it and patch this issue. Thx a lot guys for your incredible work so far, but this issue has to be resolved. Kind regards, Tom Weigandt

  20. Hello all! I am new to posting on this forum. I have looked for about an hour before deciding to ask. I restored my laptop to factory settings and was reinstalling all of my items. FSX box, PMDG 747-400, 777-232LR,-300ER. ASN then updated to 4, PFPX(which uses ASN for its weather for route planning). I open ASN first, then PFPX to plan, close PFPX and open FSX. So, after choosing my 777, load my flight plan, which changes my location, I make sure my time is correct, then click on my final box (3) Weather. Under themes it had always given me the option to allow me to choose AS to create along with the other default theme settings. Did I miss something in the ASN settings perhaps? It shows the the SIM is connected when I launch FSX, it is on live mode. I feel like such a noob, because it is probably something like "ASN does it automatically now." I just enjoy flying in as real as the actual weather is. Will it load automatically once I start the flight? Continually change and inject current weather like before etc? I thank you in advance for your help! Josh
  21. There seems to be an issue with PrecipitFX and Active Sky Next (Build 5848) under P3D v3.1. Following Image shows the correct precipitation of +SN (Heavy Snow). This is generated from the built-in Weather Theme "Heavy Snow" of Prepar3D: This image shows the same scene with ASN connected: As you can see, the snow flakes are too small and too barely! The Slider "Special effects detail" is set to "High" and I did reinstall PrecipitFX more then one times. What is going wrong? I like the Textures of PrecipitFX and want to yuse it together with ASN like sure many others of you ...
  22. Not sure if this is the correct forum, Mark. I was having a problem with ASN (v. 5707) not detecting FSX Steam loading. ASN is installed on a networked computer. Server is running Windows 7 64, client is running Windows 8.1. ASN would detect FSX running on the initial bootup of the server computer, but not on a second startup of FSX (without rebooting the server computer). After making port changes to my Norton Internet Security Smart Firewall, disabling Smart Firewall, making changes to Windows Firewall, experimenting with port settings in various simconnnect config files, the problem would not go away. Then I noticed that after I shut down FSX:SE, simserver.exe is still running. When I end that process in Task Manager and then restart FSX:SE, no reboot of server computer, ASN again detects that FSX is running. Two other things to note: 1) When I close FSX:SE and then attempt to restart it I get a message from Steam that FSX is still running, even though I have made sure that FSX has shut down (in Task Manager view). I can only restart FSX:SE by killing Steam.exe and Staemwebhelper.exe in Task Manager. So maybe Steam is supposed to shut down simserver.exe but isn't doing it. 2) Here is the full exe.xml entry. Please note folder Remote CDU is installed as that may be part of the problem (FSX is also in .... Common). <Launch.Addon> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Name>SimServerRemoteCDUs</Name> <Path>D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SimServer 2 (PMDG CDUs)\Simserver.exe</Path> </Launch.Addon> I also get a message "Simserver is already running if I restart FSX without manually ending simerver.exe's process. I've looked through the Steam and Boxed FSX SDKs, but I don't see any EXE.xml command for closing a program started by exe.xml, when the FSX session ends. I also had a problem that, every time I start FSX:SE, I got a message "Flight Simulator is attempting to start "SimServerRemoteCDUs" (Version, Config entry Number 2). Do you want to run this program?" It gives what looks like the correct address for the remote CDU program. However I fixed this problem by changing "Manual Load" to false. I don't know how the "manual" setting came about. Remote CDU itself is working just fine for both the 777 and NGX, both on my client laptop using Firefox and on my I-Phone. I have licenses for both. I have version 2.02 -- haven't upgraded further as I don't own P3D. Lastly, this computer just had its C: hard drive replaced, with the repair people cloning the old C: drive to the new C: drive. However FSX:SE and Remote CDU are installed on D:. Mike
  23. Hello Community! MD-11 is getting attention again! This is good news. it is a show to the makers of this noble aircraft, that they really did something right. Even after so many years of its publication, it is still in good use of the simmer community, including me. I just love that aircraft! I was wondering, where should I write, or from whom could I could request a weather radar integrated into the MD-11 cockpit, like they have in the B737- and B777- series? I am sure that that little extra detail would boost up it's sales, as well as ASN's sales.
  24. Hi. I am having problems with my recently purcased logitech g430 headset , i can only get the sounds working in surround sound for about 15 mins in FSX , before it corrupts the sounds, also i can get it setup in vpilot easy enough , and gives excellent sounds , but comms with atc can suddenly stop working without warning , and in TS3 i get an echo that is imposible to stop . If anyone has this headset and got it fully working reliably with FSX/ASN/VPILOT/TS3 , could you please let me know how you have the settings , and the driver you are useing , so i can see where i am going wrong . Also are you using it plugged in directly using the jacks or with the supplied usb adaptor . I have tried everything i can think off to get it working without success sofar , i submitted a ticket with logitech , but they have been usless with their response . regards alan cottrill. SO666.
