  1. Hi I am sharing with you this videotutorial in which we are describing how to fly with NDB. We will learn how to fly with NDB in jets, understanding how to tune in and fly directly to a NDB, what is a NDB compared with a VOR, what are routes against radials from VORs, what is a QDR and a QDM and how to intercept a certain QDM or QDR in flight, and how to fly with NDB in heavy turbulence conditions. We will fly with daylight and night. ENGLISH AUDIO SPANISH AUDIO (AUDIO EN ESPAÑOL) Cheers

The Dream Sim - How Ethical Is It?

Hi Everyone! Whether it be to late or not, there always is time to answer, or at the least ponder, the following question: "What would my dream sim be like?" For the simple... What would you want in it? How you want it to work with your system? How complex do you really want it to get? And in comparison to modern technological advancements... how ethical is it? For the computer professionals... How would you want the integrated code to manipulate the system? What are some key points of optimization? But most importantly, whether DoveTail makes something half decent, or whether a company comes out of the shadows with an unimaginably beautiful sim, how much should we rely on them? Would it be a good idea to hire an experimental community of coders (with previous flight simulation experience) to help these companies add to the sims? I know it sounds like pure speculation, but that is not what I am asking of you. I genuinely want to hear your opinions. And not so much opinions actually, but, rather, more like visions. I am tired of so many companies coming out with amazing concepts... with overpowering cons. With that said, I ask you... what is a dream sim in your perspective? What do you think is the future of Flight Simulation?
  3. Hey Everyone! We are continuing our Alaska airport hops! We'll hop to each land airport in Alaska! We'll start off at Gulkana (PAGK). We'll be using warbirds for fastest flight. Time: Sunday 8pm EDT UTC-4 Where: Alaska Teamspeak: a link, but server address!) and go to MS Flight Lobby Plane: Carbon RV-6A/Warbirds This is the last leg we'll land at airports! The 24th leg will be different, so stay tuned!,-148.68457031369303&chart=301&zoom=7&plan=A.PA.PAGK:A.PA.8AK1:A.PA.CZO:A.PA.1AK2:A.PA.Z55:A.PA.Z14:G.61.93843361383123,-147.15637207155905:A.PA.PASP:A.PA.28AK:A.PA.0AK6:A.PA.AK59:A.PA.52AK:A.PA.7AK9:A.PA.AK46:A.PA.AK92:A.PA.AK88:A.PA.AK53:A.PA.AK1:A.PA.AK66:A.PA.A13:G.61.256235291899735,-149.36737060663788:A.PA.AK61:A.PA.PAST:A.PA.PATW:A.PA.15AK:G.63.14062568818624,-147.52001953248381:A.PA.Z86
  4. Hello, lately I have started creating my own AI flight plans with AIFP and FPGen by Rysiek Winawer. I compile the AIFP plans with the built-in compiler and FPGen with TrafficTools. But I have ran into a problem, the traffic doesn't show up! Yes, I have the .bgl files placed in the (Flight Simulator\Scenery\World\scenery) folder, also, there were no errors in any of the flight plans. Most of the flight plans that I have downloaded (from MAIW and other third-party downloads) work fine, but some of them don't show up! Any help would be appreciated! ~Bryson Sleppy~
  5. Microsoft today released the P-40 single engine world war two fighter for Flight today. The P-40 as released does not include a cockpit. AVSIM Member Kabronicus describes the P-40; "Famous for its "shark mouth" paint jobs, the P-40 was one of the most popular Allied fighter planes in WWII. This classic aircraft's agility makes it ideal for tests of maneuverability such as collecting Aerocaches. The version in Microsoft Flight is the P-40B, with a 1000 HP in-line V-12 engine and a top speed of over 300 knots." You can read more about it in the forum topic started by Kabronicus here.
  6. I recently upgraded to windows 10 and have the latest creator update, I just installed Flight and the latest toolkit but for some reason when I switch to to cockpit view, flight crashes, I have tried 3 different aircraft but same thing happens, I was thinking maybe I should uninstall toolkit and see if it does it without it but not sure if that's the way to go. I didn't try Flight before installing the toolkit but why remove the toolkit if it may not be the cause. If I removed the non GWFL install of toolkit do I just reinstall toolkit if I want to install the GWFL version? I don't remember where error logs for flight are kept? Also did multiplayer ever get pursuit with Toolkit is or that just not going to happen? I would appreciate any help.
  7. I think we are all guilty of sometimes forgetting what flight simulation is about, to the extent that it's prudent to occasionally step back from the constant tweaking and remember what it is we are trying to achieve; i.e. the simulation of flight, as opposed to the simulation of a pretty landscape. Yes it is nice to have both, but when the ability to perform a flight from A to B in our simulator isn't even possible due to a VAS crash, because we were more bothered about a pretty field below us than a realistic emulation of an aeroplane in flight, we would do well to remember what we are trying to simulate. So when our PMDG Boeing 737s or FSL A320s start dinging away, warning us that we are out of VAS, don't blame them, recall that what we longed for above all back when a Commodore 64 and the Macintosh SE were the pinnacle of home computing, was a realistically simulated aeroplane we could fly at home, and we've got that now if we are prepared to accept that it may require a bit of a compromise to use it. Because don't forget... When we were flying over terrain which looked like this. We never worried about VAS, we were too busy enjoying ourselves: Less tweaking, more flying! Happy landings.
  8. in the yoke of of saitek I noticed that three keys that move right left / top down They have a guide or you can / need to define what will be using them? It's possible to put elevator TRIM? And flaps? And one of them will control the rudder? It could be that I get it Can possibly (if you can not define offsets In The Yoke) fly without elevator trim? That it will not be comfortable keyboard every second click, same thing with flaps and rudder, How do I set you in the yoke of? Or should I buy the elevator trim separate pedals and Table AP? Thanks for helpers

    Making Sound For FSX?

I am a beginner software developer... And basically I'm trying to make a sound pack for fsx... Now then... To have the working sounds, this would mean that the sounds were constantly playing in FSX while you were flying INSIDE the aircraft. So I basically want a constant sound inside the aircraft. Now I understand this would mean putting it into the sound folder in the flight simulator aircraft, but I am wondering how I would configure Flight Simulator to play these sounds while the aircraft is Flying and the battery is turned on. I understand that it has something to do with the .Cfg Sound file but I'm unsure what exactly I have to do to it... Could someone help? Thanks!

  12. This problem has really been bothering me for a long time. I have tried basically everything in the book to solve it. When I switch tasks in flight, say to check vpilot or go to chrome, my controller resets and causes fsx not to read it anymore. I tried porting it through FSUIPC and the same problem occured. I've gone through device manager(making sure it doesn't cut off for power saving), and did the same thing in control panel. I have run fsx in compatability mode, still no luck. When I check fsuipc anything to do with the yoke disappears. I've updated the drivers on saitek, and the problem is still there. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with vas because whenever I go into a high end scenery area or I use a heavy payware aircraft it tends to happen more often. It's literally making it impossible to fly because I can't seem to go through a flight without this problem occuring. Sometimes I don't even need to do a task switch to get this to trigger, the yoke itself will just blip on and off and fsx will stop reading the yoke. This also happens with almost all my other joysticks as well. The only way I know about fixing it is by switching between fullscreen and windowed mode a ton of times, but that only works to a point. I am completely at a loss of what to do next. I've heard its a common problem with windows 8, but I still have no idea how to solve it.
  13. Hi all, and thanks for coming to my forum! This has been happening for a while, and after many trial and errors with changing settings (turning them all the way up, back down, medium, some up and some down etc.) I've almost given up. After a flight, and it doesn't matter how long, quite often the airport terminals disappear on landing. The jetways and AI traffic are there, as well as taxiway and runway markings, just simply no terminals. Which is weird considering the default airport i took off from was perfectly fine. This doesn't happen all the time, but too often, enough times to get me annoyed. It even sometimes affects my payware scenery. For example, i just did a flight from Halifax to Toronto, landed with FlyTampa Toronto, and the Sheraton hotel was missing, as well as completely transparent glass from the terminal, in which i could see the taxiway on the other side. Since it was payware, the terminals were still there, i guess it's just affected in different ways than default scenery. I originally thought it's from FSX simply not being able to handle the settings, since it can only use so much of the PC's CPU, and instead of OOM, which it's done a bit more recently, it simply throws the terminal buildings out the window to save it from crashing on approach/landing. I've never actually seen them initially disappearing, so i'm not sure when it would occur, in flight, on approach etc. However, like i said, i've tried turning my settings way down and it still occurs, so maybe it's not OOM. The PC used was quite high end when we got it about 4 years ago, however not really anymore, especially how we've got 1000x as many addons as we did then. PC Specs: I7 processor at 3.8 Ghz GTX 745 16GB RAM Any ideas would be much appreciated!! Thanks, Adrian

  15. Hello AVSIM!! I just bought FLIGHT last night and I'm loving it!So I try to start Flight today with my wired xbox controller and doesn't control the game anymore. The game recognizes it in the drop down box but when I try to map a button to it, the game doesn't respond. Its clearly not receiving commands from my controller. The controller cannot navigate the menu at all. And when flying, none of the buttons do anything except the left joystick. the left joystick is the only function that seems to have remained.I tried both my wireless and wired controller. restarting, unplugging, and run as admin but to no avail. Same thing for both. Does the same thing with 3 different wireless controllers and the one wired controller.any suggestions to get this gamepad to work again? thanks very much, and thanks AVISM for having a Microsoft flight dedicated forum!

    Reports of MS FLIGHT Shutdown

Kotaku, a Game focused web site, is tonight reporting that the Microsoft Aces Studios title "Flight" has had development stopped. In the article written by Jason Schreier, the site reports that "Microsoft has informed Kotaku that they have not shut down the studio but it has ended development on flight simulator Microsoft Flight and Project Columbia, a Kinect interactive TV project ." In an unattributed quote, Kotaku reports; "Microsoft Studios is always evaluating its portfolio of products to determine what is best for gamers, families and the company, and this decision was the result of the natural ebb and flow of our portfolio management. Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to stop development on "Microsoft Flight" and "Project Columbia," but we feel it will help us better align with our long-term goals and development plans. For "Microsoft Flight," we will continue to support the community that has embraced the title and the game will still be available to download for free at" You can read the entire artilce here: Note that AVSIM has requested confirmation of this news directly from Microsoft. We will update this article to reflect any communication we receive. You can join the forum conversation here.
  17. The Microsoft Flight team posted an interview with John Smith. John answers some questions regarding the lighting and terrain features and flight, and we thought we would point you to that interview, if you haven't already seen it. Here's how the Flight team starts out the interview; "John Smith is the Environment Art Lead for Microsoft Flight. He won’t tell us the year he got his Master of Fine arts, but he’s spent a lot of years playing and designing non-computer games before entering the computer game field in the 90s as a concept artist and designer with various startups. After joining ACES Studio, he created the special effects and weather assets for Combat Flight Simulator 3, then helped design the Flight Simulator 9 weather system and art assets. He was the Environment Art lead for FSX, did stints as Studio Environment Lead and Art Director at ACES, and then moved on to the Firebird Studios team to develop Flight. Thanks for taking the time to answer some player questions about the lighting and terrain in Flight! There has been significant progress in the terrain in Flight. Could you describe some of the elements that have changed from FSX? There have been a few major changes and many, many minor changes." You can read the rest of the interview here, and you can participate in our forum discussions about this interview in our forums system here.
  18. Hey, guys, Hope you can provide me some assistance. Recently, my desktop computer (the one on which I play Flight Simulator X) malfunctioned, and I just got a new computer yesterday. Although I had backed up all my flight simulator addons in advance, using this payware program called Edimensional FSX Backup, I am unable to get the "Restore" feature of my FSX Backup tool to work properly with reinstalling my addons. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I would like to know if my flight simulator should be installed on my computer for this to work. The other thing that I may be thinking is that maybe the computer doesn't recognize the registry entries from my old device, and if that's the case, maybe I will just have to copy everything manually and redo my backup later. If you guys have any suggestions or helpful advice, let me know. Evan

    Working Hard on the MD-80

As some of you may know, I have developed an aircraft for X-Plane called Chase's MD-80. Well, I should say "am developing." I have decided to use this blog to help me communicate to the community my progress and my experiences. I don't have much free time, so I am not sure how this will go, but I will certainly try it out. Here goes. Everyday I seem to wake up and get my MD-80 Project on my mind. I think to myself, "Okay, I'll just go finish ____, and then I'll be done for the day; I can just go fly after that." Well, that hasn't really been happening recently. My routine has been more like: get up, drag myself to the shower, throw on some clothes, shuffle up the stairs, turn on my computer, launch blender, edit ONE thing in the 3D cockpit, launch X-Plane to see if it worked, go back to blender and repeat these steps. Each day I seem more inspired to follow this patter as I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel more and more clearly. Of course I then take a look around and see all that's miss from the plane that I still have to research, model, and texture. But that too is rather inspiring. I want to finish it so badly that I am making a real effort to do as much as I can everyday. I think I have made some serious leaps forward from my last release. That brings me to my next dilemma. I don't know how I should proceed to release this in the future. I mean, in the past I pretty much thought that as I fixed things or added things, I would pack it up and call it a 0.x release. I started off this way too. But as I got into some serious modeling, I reconsidered. I am leaning towards holding off the next release until it is "finished." By that I mean completely modeled and mostly functional. A 1.0 release if you will. It just doesn't seem to make sense to pack up an incomplete aircraft anymore. I am glad I did it originally though. I got lots of positive and helpful feedback from the community that way and also established myself as an MD-80 developer. Now I am stuck though. I have a 0.2 plane sitting in the downloads section of the X-Plane forums with something like 1600 downloads that is well out of date. The flight dynamics are primitive and certainly not characteristic of an MD-80. The fuselage is see-through. And the 3D cockpit is barely textured and almost completely unusable. It is nothing more than a preview. I could pack up what I have now for a release, but how do I clean it up without robbing these good people? I don't want to drop the 3D cockpit as it is the most improved area, yet still unfinished. Plus it would be one LESS thing than what the previous release had. That's no good. I really am struggling. I want to let them have a plane with the correct flight dynamics and such, but I don't think I am ready for that. Right now it looks like I am going to have to wait. I really think I am done with releasing things early as a preview. It makes a mess for me from a developmental standpoint. Now I understand the long wait times at PMDG Until next time, Chase PS: I'll try the picture posting thing now B)
  21. Hello everyone, I've been wanting this plane in my collection for a while now, N8308L, it was my training aircraft for a while and was my favorite color to this aircraft. (Cant post picture due to copyright issues, just look up N8308L on google) I've been learning how to do reprints myself, but I'm not good enough to get this plane done correctly. Anyways, thanks to anyone who replies!
  22. Hi Folks Following occurred on Windows 7. YMMV. Hadn't been in multiplayer for quite some time, (> 6 months), and even longer since last using voicecomms mic/headphones. Investigating missing aircraft from Hangar, following Stonelance's info request, when 2 players unexpectedly joined my session. No response to my in-game text messages, but noticed 1 player using voicecomms, (icon was active in LLHC of window), Dug out headset from drawer, and tried untangling cable/plugs, meantime crediting profile with yet another destroyed airframe, then attempted to voice communicate. N.B. For all aspects throughout, Control Panel's Playback Volume/Recording Level indicators test mechanisms indicated both playback & recording levels as being OK. Game sounds were reasonably leveled, but voicecomm's volume was extremely low. I could just hear that the player was speaking, but not loud enough to discern what was being said. I then tried the following, and for each adjustment, returned to in-game flight, to test whether 3rd party could hear me - - Initially tried W7 System Tray's mixer/volume controls, with no appreciable difference. - Tried adjusting FLIGHT's OPTIONS AUDIO menu, same result. - Tried adjusting LIVE settings, again similar. LIVE's Voice test-panel confirmed mic was working ok, albeit requiring slightly higher volume of speech than normal. - Tried in-game, but other player couldn't hear me. - Tried Control Panel's Sound applet, again same. - Restarted both 'audio' and 'audio endpoint builder', with same results. - Disabled/renabled audio device, again same results. - Repeated restart for audio/audio endpoint builder, again same. - Repeated LIVE's voice configuration & tests, again still same low level. - Tried adjusting FLIGHT's OPTIONS AUDIO menu. In all cases, despite maxing vols/mic-sensitivity/etc, none of previous would improve/increase audio levels for - - Bar-Graphs to display > 2 of 10 - Other player to even hear that I was talking, (versus open mic). Then it clicked - I remembered that, since my last FLIGHT voicecomms session, I'd played with, & configured W7's native 'Speech Recognition'. Launched control-panel's SR applet, performed its mic-test, which supposedly passed ok, but suspiciously, the bar-graph showed almost 99% speech in yellow band, i.e. way too low. Repeatedly tried several adjustment options, none of which improved microphone's response. Tried the 'Advanced Speech Options' applet, and its various 'Microphone' config buttons, which initially did nothing new, till I clicked 'Advanced', and switched from 'Use Preferred Audio Device', to 'Use This Audio Device'. Whatever it was, Clicking Apply 'unlocked' the sensitivity & boost aspects, permitting adjustment, and resulting appropriate microphone sensitivity. Clicking OK, unexpectedly initiated a required reboot, (my apologies JH for session closure). Bottom line - Your 'Speech Recognition' configuration profile settings apparently take precedence, overriding your microphone sensitivity settings. HTH ATB Paul
