  1. Hey all, So I have played FSX for a couple months now, and I am decent at it, but not good enough to join or create like a virtual navy squadron, which is my goal. So I'm trying to form a flight training plan for myself. I have the planes, the IRIS T-6 Texan II and the Dino Cattaneo T-45 Goshawk. I was just wondering like what the schedule would be, like what flights I do which things, and how many flights until the next step. Thanks, Vapor

  4. Microsoft today released the P-40 single engine world war two fighter for Flight today. The P-40 as released does not include a cockpit. AVSIM Member Kabronicus describes the P-40; "Famous for its "shark mouth" paint jobs, the P-40 was one of the most popular Allied fighter planes in WWII. This classic aircraft's agility makes it ideal for tests of maneuverability such as collecting Aerocaches. The version in Microsoft Flight is the P-40B, with a 1000 HP in-line V-12 engine and a top speed of over 300 knots." You can read more about it in the forum topic started by Kabronicus here.
  5. I think we are all guilty of sometimes forgetting what flight simulation is about, to the extent that it's prudent to occasionally step back from the constant tweaking and remember what it is we are trying to achieve; i.e. the simulation of flight, as opposed to the simulation of a pretty landscape. Yes it is nice to have both, but when the ability to perform a flight from A to B in our simulator isn't even possible due to a VAS crash, because we were more bothered about a pretty field below us than a realistic emulation of an aeroplane in flight, we would do well to remember what we are trying to simulate. So when our PMDG Boeing 737s or FSL A320s start dinging away, warning us that we are out of VAS, don't blame them, recall that what we longed for above all back when a Commodore 64 and the Macintosh SE were the pinnacle of home computing, was a realistically simulated aeroplane we could fly at home, and we've got that now if we are prepared to accept that it may require a bit of a compromise to use it. Because don't forget... When we were flying over terrain which looked like this. We never worried about VAS, we were too busy enjoying ourselves: Less tweaking, more flying! Happy landings.
  6. I recently upgraded to windows 10 and have the latest creator update, I just installed Flight and the latest toolkit but for some reason when I switch to to cockpit view, flight crashes, I have tried 3 different aircraft but same thing happens, I was thinking maybe I should uninstall toolkit and see if it does it without it but not sure if that's the way to go. I didn't try Flight before installing the toolkit but why remove the toolkit if it may not be the cause. If I removed the non GWFL install of toolkit do I just reinstall toolkit if I want to install the GWFL version? I don't remember where error logs for flight are kept? Also did multiplayer ever get pursuit with Toolkit is or that just not going to happen? I would appreciate any help.
  7. Kotaku, a Game focused web site, is tonight reporting that the Microsoft Aces Studios title "Flight" has had development stopped. In the article written by Jason Schreier, the site reports that "Microsoft has informed Kotaku that they have not shut down the studio but it has ended development on flight simulator Microsoft Flight and Project Columbia, a Kinect interactive TV project ." In an unattributed quote, Kotaku reports; "Microsoft Studios is always evaluating its portfolio of products to determine what is best for gamers, families and the company, and this decision was the result of the natural ebb and flow of our portfolio management. Many factors were considered in the difficult decision to stop development on "Microsoft Flight" and "Project Columbia," but we feel it will help us better align with our long-term goals and development plans. For "Microsoft Flight," we will continue to support the community that has embraced the title and the game will still be available to download for free at http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight/." You can read the entire artilce here: http://kotaku.com/5929141/microsoft-shuts-down-vancouver+based-studio Note that AVSIM has requested confirmation of this news directly from Microsoft. We will update this article to reflect any communication we receive. You can join the forum conversation here.
  8. The Microsoft Flight team posted an interview with John Smith. John answers some questions regarding the lighting and terrain features and flight, and we thought we would point you to that interview, if you haven't already seen it. Here's how the Flight team starts out the interview; "John Smith is the Environment Art Lead for Microsoft Flight. He won’t tell us the year he got his Master of Fine arts, but he’s spent a lot of years playing and designing non-computer games before entering the computer game field in the 90s as a concept artist and designer with various startups. After joining ACES Studio, he created the special effects and weather assets for Combat Flight Simulator 3, then helped design the Flight Simulator 9 weather system and art assets. He was the Environment Art lead for FSX, did stints as Studio Environment Lead and Art Director at ACES, and then moved on to the Firebird Studios team to develop Flight. Thanks for taking the time to answer some player questions about the lighting and terrain in Flight! There has been significant progress in the terrain in Flight. Could you describe some of the elements that have changed from FSX? There have been a few major changes and many, many minor changes." You can read the rest of the interview here, and you can participate in our forum discussions about this interview in our forums system here.
  9. MS today released some teaser images of their soon to be released scenery add-on for MS FLIGHT. FLIGHT of course is their latest product in the flight simulation genre'. You can view more of the images here. You can participate in the AVSIM Forum discussion here.
  10. Microsoft's FLIGHT team has announced that the P-40 Warhawk will be available Wednesday. There is not a lot of detail available as to whether it will include a cockpit or not. You can read all about it on the MS FLIGHT FaceBook page here.
  11. This problem has really been bothering me for a long time. I have tried basically everything in the book to solve it. When I switch tasks in flight, say to check vpilot or go to chrome, my controller resets and causes fsx not to read it anymore. I tried porting it through FSUIPC and the same problem occured. I've gone through device manager(making sure it doesn't cut off for power saving), and did the same thing in control panel. I have run fsx in compatability mode, still no luck. When I check fsuipc anything to do with the yoke disappears. I've updated the drivers on saitek, and the problem is still there. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with vas because whenever I go into a high end scenery area or I use a heavy payware aircraft it tends to happen more often. It's literally making it impossible to fly because I can't seem to go through a flight without this problem occuring. Sometimes I don't even need to do a task switch to get this to trigger, the yoke itself will just blip on and off and fsx will stop reading the yoke. This also happens with almost all my other joysticks as well. The only way I know about fixing it is by switching between fullscreen and windowed mode a ton of times, but that only works to a point. I am completely at a loss of what to do next. I've heard its a common problem with windows 8, but I still have no idea how to solve it.
  12. Hi all, and thanks for coming to my forum! This has been happening for a while, and after many trial and errors with changing settings (turning them all the way up, back down, medium, some up and some down etc.) I've almost given up. After a flight, and it doesn't matter how long, quite often the airport terminals disappear on landing. The jetways and AI traffic are there, as well as taxiway and runway markings, just simply no terminals. Which is weird considering the default airport i took off from was perfectly fine. This doesn't happen all the time, but too often, enough times to get me annoyed. It even sometimes affects my payware scenery. For example, i just did a flight from Halifax to Toronto, landed with FlyTampa Toronto, and the Sheraton hotel was missing, as well as completely transparent glass from the terminal, in which i could see the taxiway on the other side. Since it was payware, the terminals were still there, i guess it's just affected in different ways than default scenery. I originally thought it's from FSX simply not being able to handle the settings, since it can only use so much of the PC's CPU, and instead of OOM, which it's done a bit more recently, it simply throws the terminal buildings out the window to save it from crashing on approach/landing. I've never actually seen them initially disappearing, so i'm not sure when it would occur, in flight, on approach etc. However, like i said, i've tried turning my settings way down and it still occurs, so maybe it's not OOM. The PC used was quite high end when we got it about 4 years ago, however not really anymore, especially how we've got 1000x as many addons as we did then. PC Specs: I7 processor at 3.8 Ghz GTX 745 16GB RAM Any ideas would be much appreciated!! Thanks, Adrian
  13. Hey, guys, Hope you can provide me some assistance. Recently, my desktop computer (the one on which I play Flight Simulator X) malfunctioned, and I just got a new computer yesterday. Although I had backed up all my flight simulator addons in advance, using this payware program called Edimensional FSX Backup, I am unable to get the "Restore" feature of my FSX Backup tool to work properly with reinstalling my addons. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I would like to know if my flight simulator should be installed on my computer for this to work. The other thing that I may be thinking is that maybe the computer doesn't recognize the registry entries from my old device, and if that's the case, maybe I will just have to copy everything manually and redo my backup later. If you guys have any suggestions or helpful advice, let me know. Evan

  17. As some of you may know, I have developed an aircraft for X-Plane called Chase's MD-80. Well, I should say "am developing." I have decided to use this blog to help me communicate to the community my progress and my experiences. I don't have much free time, so I am not sure how this will go, but I will certainly try it out. Here goes. Everyday I seem to wake up and get my MD-80 Project on my mind. I think to myself, "Okay, I'll just go finish ____, and then I'll be done for the day; I can just go fly after that." Well, that hasn't really been happening recently. My routine has been more like: get up, drag myself to the shower, throw on some clothes, shuffle up the stairs, turn on my computer, launch blender, edit ONE thing in the 3D cockpit, launch X-Plane to see if it worked, go back to blender and repeat these steps. Each day I seem more inspired to follow this patter as I start to see the light at the end of the tunnel more and more clearly. Of course I then take a look around and see all that's miss from the plane that I still have to research, model, and texture. But that too is rather inspiring. I want to finish it so badly that I am making a real effort to do as much as I can everyday. I think I have made some serious leaps forward from my last release. That brings me to my next dilemma. I don't know how I should proceed to release this in the future. I mean, in the past I pretty much thought that as I fixed things or added things, I would pack it up and call it a 0.x release. I started off this way too. But as I got into some serious modeling, I reconsidered. I am leaning towards holding off the next release until it is "finished." By that I mean completely modeled and mostly functional. A 1.0 release if you will. It just doesn't seem to make sense to pack up an incomplete aircraft anymore. I am glad I did it originally though. I got lots of positive and helpful feedback from the community that way and also established myself as an MD-80 developer. Now I am stuck though. I have a 0.2 plane sitting in the downloads section of the X-Plane forums with something like 1600 downloads that is well out of date. The flight dynamics are primitive and certainly not characteristic of an MD-80. The fuselage is see-through. And the 3D cockpit is barely textured and almost completely unusable. It is nothing more than a preview. I could pack up what I have now for a release, but how do I clean it up without robbing these good people? I don't want to drop the 3D cockpit as it is the most improved area, yet still unfinished. Plus it would be one LESS thing than what the previous release had. That's no good. I really am struggling. I want to let them have a plane with the correct flight dynamics and such, but I don't think I am ready for that. Right now it looks like I am going to have to wait. I really think I am done with releasing things early as a preview. It makes a mess for me from a developmental standpoint. Now I understand the long wait times at PMDG Until next time, Chase PS: I'll try the picture posting thing now B)
  18. Hi There! I'm new here, but was advised by a fellow Flight pilot, HB1PC3, to join this website to ask for much needed help. As I am also posting to msFLIGHTS.net & FSDeveloper.com to ask for the same advice, I have posted all the problematic information to a page within my own website, at: http://www.smartartsplus.co.uk/flightadvice.htm in the hope that someone out there in the virtual Flight skies can help me relaunch my game. Thanking you in anticipation of a solution! Paul J. Hopkins (aka Lordnum)
  19. Do you like flying in good weather conditions, but you are tired of seeing the same cumulus clouds over and over again? This addon inserts a new weather theme with 256 randomly generated weather cells in Microsoft Flight: Mixed Fair Weather Enjoy a variety of cloud formations as you travel around the world in good weather conditions. Download: http://www.mediafire.com/download/h00plp5s1ocgnv5/Mixed_fair_weather_theme.zip How to Install: Install the file Mixed_fair_weather_theme.flightAddon with the latest version of the Flight Toolkit by stonelance.
  20. Jennifer Paige, Community Manager for Microsoft Studios today provided us an announcement regarding MS FLIGHT. Here's what Jennifer provided us: "New Microsoft Flight Update Now Available. Here are the changes included in this latest update: We made a few changes to help address an issue that was causing some players to crash when starting the game. We addressed an issue that was causing a CRC validation error for some players. We also made some adjustments to help improve Windows 8 compatibility. A special thank you to all the players who participated in the beta test of this build! Your efforts are appreciated."
  21. Joshua Howard was kind enough to provide answers to AVSIM's follow-up questions following the announced stopping of development on Flight. Here is a "mini-review" of sorts. AVSIM: We have a number of questions we would love to ask, but the predominant one is regarding external development. Are you considering allowing third parties continuing development of FLIGHT? Would you provide the SDK's under license to another or others? Joshua: There is no facility to allow 3rd parties to independently develop content for Microsoft Flight. Though we had hoped to offer this capability in the future, as the product stands today it’s not possible. AVSIM: Do you foresee then a point in time in the not too distant future, where the work on Flight could form the basis of FSX11? Or, is there some other possible road that MS ACES might move down to continue the genre’? Joshua: Those are difficult questions, because on one hand I can’t discuss unannounced product, and on the other hand the company never wants to say never. It should be clear that there is no current effort to continue with a Flight type product. The team itself is dispersing into other projects. But, who knows what the future might bring? I wouldn’t want anyone to hold out any false hopes, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if after some period of time the company reconsidered. We are constantly evaluating our portfolio and making changes – right now Flight doesn’t fit, but it might again in the future. It’s an unsatisfactory answer, but it’s the best I’ve got for you. AVSIM: Thank you Joshua. We do appreciate your candor with us.
  22. Hi, So, I recently went and bought some modern USAF Flight Jackets (CWU-36/P and a CWU-45/P) to wear while flying and out and about during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. I also felt compelled to try to make patches that looked good with the flight jacket for my private pilot training. I'm looking for feedback from the community to see if you would tell me what you would want in custom patches if you were to design patches for a flight jacket and to let me know what you think of the ones I have created. I also have posted a picture of the patches modeled on a CWU-45/P picture. See below and let me know what you think. If it were popular enough, I have to make an order of more than one patch to get the custom patches made so I might be selling these extras on Ebay or elsewhere. I did the Cessna patch because I'm training in a 152 but also will have a design for a Piper should others be interested. I would also like to make patches for those who are already rated as a Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, or even ATP if there is interest so that you could replace patches as needed per your rank/experience. The awesome thing about the modern flight jackets is that they are hook and loop patches so you can customize how you want even when going up ratings in your flying. The patches could also be sewed on other flight jackets (MA-1, A-2, or other customized flight jackets). The patches should look good to attach on any flight jacket. The biggest thing I want to know is if Civilian Pilot Training looks good on the command patch or not. If not, what would you put there. Anyhow...let me know. Please note that I mean no disrepect to any of our proud armed forces and look forward to any veteran replies including USAF vets or current. Student Pilot Nametag (with Civilian Wings and Cessna type plane logo) Student Pilot Shoulder Patch (could be changed for Piper Aircraft Training and also have text changed to Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Helicopter Pilot, etc...) This is the command patch replacement for a Cessna Training. Would be edit for others including custom to the aircraft you fly. Looking for ideas on what you would put where it says Civilian Pilot Training. This is a photoshopped display of how the flight jacket would look like with all of the patches on including the typical 2x3 size American flag on the left shoulder. Flags of other nationalities could be done obviously but I'm proud of the USA so I might be biased. I invite all feedback as I want something that I think looks good, possibly with others wanting these patches to decorate their flight jackets. Thanks Eric
  23. Hey guys! Is it a known issue that when loading a flight having already opened 777 in another flight earlier but not closing the game in between the flights will bug the planes fuel system? If i enter 10000 in the scratchpad and put that in, this happens: https://1drv.ms/i/s!AuPgpnKVCnMhxnatLYZGa3tJ3xZ1 I get 10 000kg in the plane, like i should. However, my fuel options tell me that i actually put in about 77000, and it also thinks that means 100%. If i put in 20 000, i will get 13700 in the plane and fuel window shows 145500. No matter how much i put in, it only gives me 13700. Now this causes fuel disagree warning after a while, and is also a bit problematic because i really dont know how much fuel i _really_ have in this case since the fueling system seems like its gone totally haywire.
  24. MS FLIGHT - ADDON - CORE - MISC - Upgrade - CareerTrackDefinitions - Version 2 For 'XP Grinders', and any aspirants. This addon upgrades FLIGHT's Core\Misc\CareerTrackDefinitions file, and when installed, supercedes all previously released versions. Flight's 'User Profile' displays a maximum of - - As Released - 'Level' 20, equating to 500,000 'XP'. - As Upgraded - 'Level' 100, equating to 128,000,000 'XP'. Hopefully more than sufficient, for most of your flying careers. These XP-Level definitions are based on the same numerical-progression as FLIGHT's original. Pre-Installation - Anyone who'd installed the previous CareerTrackDefinitions addon, should fully remove that CareerTrackDefinitions.addon. To remove - - START 'FTK Addon Manager' - SELECT the 'CORE - UI - Upgrade - CareerTrackDefinitions' - RIGHT-CLICK & DELETE the original 'CORE - UI - Upgrade - CareerTrackDefinitions' Installation - Due to changes implemented in FTK addon's loading-sequence, introduced in support of the 'FSX World' conversion addon, this CareerTrackDefinitions v2 now requires manual installation. Installation actions may require Administrator-level privelege. UnZip into a temporary location. The Zip contains 2 files - - Core_Misc_CareerTrackDefinitions.pak - README_INSTALL_Core_Misc_CareerTrackDefinitions.txt, (this file). Ensure FLIGHT is not running. Locate your folder containing "Flight.exe". Copy the 'Core_Misc_CareerTrackDefinitions.pak' file, into that folder. Using Notepad.exe, or another TEXT editor, (not WordPad, or Word), open 'FileLocator.config' from that folder. SELECT and COPY the XML MappingEntry line below. <MappingEntry LocationType="Zip" PhysicalLocation="Core_Misc_CareerTrackDefinitions.pak" VirtualPath="Core" /> Scroll to the end of 'FileLocator.config'. Find the closing tag </FileLocator>. PASTE the above COPIED line of XML into FLIGHT's default 'FileLocator.config' file, immediately prior to the closing tag </FileLocator>. Save your edited 'FileLocator.config'. Post Installation - Start FLIGHT.exe. Click PLAY. On FLIGHT's in-game menu, click 'PILOT PROFILE'. Your 'CAREER' profile page will be displayed, showing your 'XP' earned, matching 'Career Level', plus detailed performance data. If your currently active profile has earned more than 539,375 'XP', ('Career Level' 21), that profile should now display your appropriate upgraded 'Career Level'. Any problems - Post here in this thread. Author - Microsoft - Tweaked and extrapolated by Paul Donnelly, (BASys). Credits - Microsoft Games Studios HTH ATB Paul Donnelly (BASys)
