  1. I just got FS Global Ultimate NG for Prepar3d v4 and some stock airports have field elevation issues. According to Pilot’s (developers of FSGUNG), this is due fact that these airports do not have accurate airport field elevations.But does Orbx payware airports not have these issues? Do all Orbx airports correctly depict field elevations? I’ve tested Orbx’s LOWI and haven’t noticed any issues. Furthermore, I have FTX Global, LC Europe and North America, FTX Global Vectors, and just installed FS Global NG. Besides using the FTX utility to auto-configure the airports, should I do anything else to make sure everything is running smoothly? Best,
  2. Hello folks, The open beta for FreeMeshX USA has begun. This is a 50 GB LOD12 (9.5 m pixel size) terrain mesh that enhances the topography of the continental 48 United States. Note, Hawaii and Alaska are unfinished. The source data used is from the US Geological Survey's National Elevation Database and is the highest quality data we've worked with. The USA mesh is unfinished. We have not optimized the level of detail for the plethora of terrains found in the CONUS. For example, the Great Plains are also rendered at LOD12, which is a bit of a waste of data, so we will likely cut down the LOD to LOD11 in the future and increase the compression for the flatter areas of the country. This could save quite a bit of HDD space in the end. We have also filled in gaps between the CONUS and neighboring countries with LOD11 data based on SRTM and CDED data. So the entire world should now be completely replaced with FreeMeshX Global and FreeMeshX USA. The mesh is compatible with all versions of FSX and P3D. Flight Sim World is not supported -- that's not a permanent declaration -- we just don't know enough about it and haven't tried using FreeMeshX with it. About the airport plateau problem: I have not finished my solution to the airport plateau problem, but I've made much progress in that direction. I've withheld the release for this very reason until now because it can break the immersion. As many know, the airport plateau problem is a fundamental issue that affects all meshes. Since the ESP engine forces airports to lie flat on undulating or sloped terrain, these artifacts at airports become quite significant at higher LOD. There is no thorough workaround yet. FTX Vectors can only do so much by adjusting the elevation of a small fraction of the airports. The only true way to fix this issue is by DTG or LM rewriting how airports lie on terrain, but I have not seen any inkling of motivation from them to solve it. Until then, I am working on my own solution that will adjust the mesh around each airport so that the airport blends in seamlessly with the surrounding terrain. It's not an easy task for me. It's an elusive problem that requires thorough planning and testing. I originally withheld release until I had the solution working, but time commitments to my PhD research and limitations of my own has not allowed me to solve it yet. You all have been very patient, and I have decided to release an open beta for those who understand the airport plateau problem and won't report to me every time they see an airport affected by it. Trust me, I'm working on it! New installer method: Due to popular demand, we have forgone the 'manual' method of installing for a 'less manual method' FreeMeshX has converted to automatic installers. See for yourself. As you can see, the installer basically does the job of extracting the FreeMeshX folders into a location of your choice. There is no impact on your system elsewhere. No registry entries. No BS. To uninstall, you just delete the installed folder. Done. Note, you are still required to add the folders to your Scenery Library. Trust me, you don't want us to modify your scenery.cfg, and we don't want to be the culprit if it messes up Downloading: The USA expansion is huge. Downloading it will take a long time. Usually 12-24 hours for broadband users when downloading directly without any kind of download accelerator. On top of that, the new installer method can only work with 2.0 GB chunks at a time. That means the installer uses 27 parts. To simplify the direct download, I have put together a barebones downloader based on wget -- a download manager that will automatically retrieve all parts of the installer with full stop/resume capability. All one has to do is unzip the downloader, double-click on a batch file I provide, and it will run wget to retrieve each file. A command prompt with a bunch of gibberish will come up, but at the bottom will be the name of the file you are downloading and a progress monitor. Once it has finished one file, it will automatically move onto the next until all files are downloaded. If you want to stop the download, exit out of the command prompt, or hit CTRL + C. To resume, just double click on the batch file, and the installer will resume from where it had stopped. Note, the files will be downloaded into the location where you have run the batch script, so make sure you have enough space first! We have created installers for the other regions of the world -- fully updated. They aren't uploaded yet, but will be ready soon. Bit Torrent users: For Bit Torrent users, the USA mesh will not come with an installer. It is not needed. The entire folder structure can be downloaded intact with Bit Torrent, like it is for the FreeMeshX Global 1.0 release. We have not tested compatibility extensively, and we would like to see reports from the beta users on how the FTX meshes and FreeMeshX USA mesh conflict. Since they are both the same level of detail, there may be some conflict. If there is, the likely suggestion would be to uncheck FMX - USA from your Scenery Library when flying in the FTX regions. We highly encourage the use of FTX Vectors. Any good mesh needs a good vector replacement package. IMPORTANT TIPS: 1. Defragment your mechanical HDD. The rendering of the highly detailed mesh requires a fast CPU and quick access to the data on the HDD. Obviously, if the data is fragmented and scattered all over the HDD, then that can slow the rendering down, i.e. blurries. 2. Install the mesh on a fast HDD for similar reasons. 3. Do not expect your computer to keep up if you're doing Mach 1.2 over the terrain unless your computer is very quick! The HDD has to stream the data and then process it via your CPU. That takes some time! 4. Place the FreeMeshX USA folder above the other FreeMeshX folders, including the FreeMeshX Patches folder if you have one, and below any FTX regions in the Scenery Library. 5. To reduce mesh popping (where higher LOD mesh pops in -- another limitation of the ESP engine), use a higher LOD_Radius in your fsx.cfg or p3d.cfg. We recommend a minimum of 6.5. I personally use 8.5 which is a nice compromise between performance, memory, and visuals. The higher the LOD_Radius, the further out the mesh will be drawn at its maximum LOD, less mesh popping, and the better it looks! 6. Obviously, feel free to use your texture and landclass solution. We use FTX Global and openLC USA/Canada. Because it's beautiful. Great! You read everything and are ready to download!   3. PILOT's site indicates that they are nearing the digital release of their Next Generation 1-m mesh. I currently have FS Global Ultimate 5-m mesh, and was wondering if anyone who has upgraded saw any rendering or performance benefit? My two main questions are: 1. Will my sim performance be better with Next Generation over Ultimate? PILOT's site claims that NG uses "New algorithms for better data use and loading times. Less size and more detail nevertheless!" 2. Did you have any problems running Orbx and NG together that you didn't have with Ultimate? I've experienced very little issue running Ultimate and Orbx together when used in conjunction with the FTX AEC configuration tool. PILOT's claims that NG is compatible with FTX products.
  4. hey, I use x-plane 11. I did not know if i should put this here or in addon section. Before i start, i want to say that; yes i did already check ###### tons of other guides and installation protocols. Specs: I7-6700HQ GTX 1060 16 Gb 2133Mhz ram 1Tb hdd + 256 SSD (where x plane is installed) My HD scenery mesh is not working, i did what the installation guide said i should, multiple times, i also follow two different youtube videos and a forum post on avsim. W2XP is not working either but i still have some ideas to why that is not working, so i am still trying to figure that out. But regarding HD scenery mesh, which is what i really need help for (i just really want it to work), i am out of ideas, the log looks correct (it is loading the mesh), but i am 100% sure that the mesh is NOT there (aka its not just me flying in the wrong region). Not much else to say, i will give you the logs and scenery_packs.ini and a pic of my scenery folder. I hope someone can help!!   6. Because it has been "asked" here and there: Let me try to quantify the differences (and where I write HD Mesh, there UHD Mesh would apply equally - generally speaking). And with the XP11 default Global Scenery I mean the one replaced with public beta one (later this might change). HD Mesh Scenery v3: older data (approximately 2 years old) - XP11 default: newer OSM data (August 2016) XP11 default has updated landclass data for many regions (compared to HD Mesh Scenery v3) HD Mesh Scenery v3: older autogen placement algorithms and no special European roads during scenery generation (XP11 default has a slight edge here - at least urbanized areas might look better) HD Mesh Scenery v3 has much higher resolution Mesh (this has NOT been changed in XP11 default do to scenery size constraints!) HD Mesh Scenery v3 has much more accurate landclass representation (even if its based on older data as described above) because of its higher res mesh (landclass is bound to mesh triangles) HD Mesh Scenery v3 has older (because of older OSM data) but more accurate coastlines (rivers, lakes, ocean) as XP11 default needed to simplify vectors ... again because of scenery size constraints. So, in the long run (especially to iron out the first 3 "disadvantages") I will possibly release a HD Mesh Scenery v4 (and likely some similar update to UHD Mesh). But this will not happen anytime soon ... especially as I also wait for some further planned improvements in the scenery generator from Laminar (like including building height data, which has NOT been included in this first scenery released by Laminar with the public beta ... yes, I can confirm this information as I discussed it with Ben Supnik).   8. As of today, the UHD Mesh Scenery v1 series has a new region: Japan The main differences (and improvements, compared to HD Mesh Scenery) are: High resolution DEM elevation data. Based on the AW3D (© JAXA) 30m data, and where AW3D has holes, filled up with SRTM 1sec (30m) data. Latest landclass data based on the "AVNIR-2 high-resolution land use land cover map 2016 February release (version 16.02)" (© JAXA) Massively increased mesh density ... by roughly factor 2.5 to 3! This is not only beneficiary to the better representation of the higher res DEM data, but also - once more - improves landclass and forest detail! Because of this, the "UHD Mesh Scenery v1" Scenery is very heavy on hardware resources and will only run smoothly on modern, higher end PCs. Its very important - before even considering a download - to have at least 16 GBytes of RAM and a modern / powerful GPU!   9. At first the people at Orbx would be the complete scenery solution. Now apparently they recommend FS Global or as many as the FS Ultimate series as you can afford. All I want to know is if I have Orbx Vector 1.30 do I need FTX Vector, or indeed would people recommend it over the Orbx product? I am still confused about the install order after FSX and Acceleration. Is it Orbx Global first or say FTX Ultimate Americas and Europe. And Orbx also have their European land classes which I wonder whether I need if I use FTX Ultimate and Africa. I don't believe there is a definitive answer to this one, I'm just looking to avoid wasting money on products that I don't need. And it seems to have gotten a lot more confusing these past few months. Ah well, it's all part of the fun and games I guess of pursuing this hobby (obsession) Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on these issues, and believe me I have attempted to research it myself and just ended up playing Fifa! So many products, so many opinions, they sure don't make it enjoy this simulation with the the satisfaction that you're enjoying the best possible experience you could. This particular thread is beginning to get specific questions and answers, and it's only going to get worse. It's not specific to FSX, but other flight sims as well. It's freeware and there's already a freeware group it can find a home in. Thoughts ??

  12. In the beginning days testing my computer with FSX, I got so bad performance that I decided to spend some money into the new hardwares (new CPU and VGA). However with the help from a friend I got to know about tweaking the fsx.cfg and wow, it DOES boost the performance that I managed to run quite smooth PMDG 777/Aerosoft Airbus with some detailed airports. Of course settings only at dense and normal. Now I'm thinking about not buying new computer parts and use those money into some scenery addons. After days of reading topics and googling, I'm going for Fsglobal Ultimate and FTX Global. From what I've read these 2 shouldn't impact my fps much? So I'm done for mesh and ground texture. How about FTX Vector vs UTX? Topics dicussion between these 2 mainly from last 1 or 2 years in the early stage of Vector so there are many bugs, don't know about how is it now. Just thinking that because I use FTXglobal, using Vector should work better? No price talking here of course Vector is much cheaper comparing to all UTX packages. Last thing I want to ask is the X series of cities from Aerosoft, Aerosoft Manhatan X. What are the differences between these and the FTX Vector/UTX? Do all of them work well together and harm significantly the performance? I'm the kind of person that despite flying 99% IFR high altitude, I can sit for hours on the computer looking at the ground when crusing, let autoland do its job and panning around in spot view looking at the city below... Thanks for helping me and sorry for my bad English BTW, my specs i5 3570k@4Ghz, 8GB ram, Nvidia GTS450 (yeah, I know, horrible).   14. Hi folks. Thought I'd do a comparison between UTX Europe and the new FTX products namely OpenLC EU. Until now I'd been pretty happy with UTX Europe with FTX Global particularly as I tend to fly the 737NGX + Dash 8 but nevertheless after an upgrade itch I decided to get hold of Vector and OpenLC. I chose a variety of areas, Nice Cote Azur, LSZS in the Alps, and two completely random areas in Norway and Holland. Done in FSX (DX9) with SweetFX. Completely unedited but resized. Decide for yourselves! However, personally for me the LSZS shot actually looks better with UTX rather than the new stuff (even without FS Global 2010) but LFMN does look ever so slightly better to me as do the others. I ended up getting a mesh product (Global 2010) and with that you can see it really does help improve the sim. Is this outlay worth the £107 I spent on Vector + OpenLC EU + Global 2010...I'm yet to be totally convinced especially as I tend to fly in an around Europe but given two of the three products have global coverage perhaps I'll be heading further afield with my VA. I think this is a testament to UTX too, for such an old product they really did get it right back then and with FS Global it improved things massively (much better then Ground Environment X IMO) but with hopefully ORBX continuing to update and upgrade their products I'm sure I'll be happy with my new purchase. ...ps only downside is I now need a bigger SSD!!!   15. Good evening all, I usually fly jetliners in Europe mainly, sometimes in North America and Asia..I now want to do some General Aviation flying around Alaska.. Because i now am going to fly a lot lower than with the jets, i would like to know which freeware and payware add ons there are to enhance the flying in Alaska..I don`t exactely know the difference between terrain and mesh, so if anyone would like to fill me in a bit i would appreciate it.. Hello, Fellows, I´d like to know if Megascenery Earth 2 comes with both textures and mesh for a scenery, and what resolution is this mesh for USA, because FSGenesis covers entire USA mesh at about 8 meters resolution ( very good ), and will both products work together ?   18. Recently downloaded and installed the latest FSGenesis Mesh for FSX. Nice product. However, FSGenesis states: "..These terrain files are also P3D-compatible, with manual configuration." Has anyone been successful in manual installation of mesh into P3D V2 yet?
  19. Bonjour, I looking for an addon or scenery (FSX) which most reliable for VFR flying in Québec (Canada). In the other words I need an addon or scenery which is most relative for VFR navigation chart. It means that FSX should include at least all objects according VFR charts. Recently I tested Flight1 - Ultimate Terrain X: Canada (Scene) in general it is OK, according lakes, rivers it great. But surprisely, for example, during flight I didn't find wind farm fields according my waypoints. Also in comparing with Google earth the Ultimate Terrain X somethimes includes an small villages, objects (homes, buildings). In some cases the Ultimate Terrain has not big objects like bid schools with several baseball, soccer, football fields. May be I need to add something to Ultimate Terrain? Any suggestions are wellcome!
  20. Hey, Got a question for all you mesh users. Since it takes up lot of place. I have decided to junction the mesh directory of FS Global to a secondary drive. My question is if I uninstall my sim, and reinstall it back. I do not want to complete cd reinstall again (takes forever). Do I just add the directories back to the scenery library. And also I have noticed some bgl files get renamed and unrenamed in the uninstall bat file, should I create an alternate file with everything in reverse when doing a install (from hdd, not via discs)? or is that process not needed at all - and I just stick with adding directories to the Scenery.cfg Thoughts? and suggestions are welcome.   21. Hello everybody! I'm here because I've ran out of useful tips & tricks on autogen problems with my FSx+Acceleration version. Problem: Autogen elements popup and mesh increases definition only at a small distance from my aircraft, like in a virtual small circle. Please find explanatory screenshots attached. First of all here are my specs (PC is 6 months old): M/B: AsRock Z77 Extreme 4 CPU: Intel I7-3770K (non-OC) PSU: BeQuiet! Straight Power Modular 580W RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1833MHz Graphic card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX670 HDD: WD 1Tb 6Gb/s 7200rpm Monitor: DELL U2711 at 2560x1440 (32bit) Overclocking: usualy I prefer to no OC (3.9GHz), but I reached a stable system up to 4.3 GHz. I read a lot about this kind of problem and I think I've tried everything (including switching from a wonderful Sapphire Radeon 7870 to my actual GTX 670) and obviously all kind of tweak. No results! Let me share something abount the tweaks. For my configuration they are almost useless! I found out that Bojote's, Nick's, Word Not Allowed, and others tweaks, simply do not make my fsx run smoother that a clean fsx.cfg. And of course none of these tweaks have helped for the sayed Autogen and definition problem. HIGHMEMFIX=1 POOLSIZE=up to 100000000 rejectThresol=... TextureMaxLoad=12 SmallPartRejectRadius=4 and many others; even trying to find out which combination of tweaks could improve my performance! In addition I found out that nVidia Inspector (with common settings derived from forum reading) has a significant hit on the smoothness and provides very poor improvement from the trilinear (or anisotropic)+antialiasing fsx visualization (e.g. without nVidia Inspector, at unlimited Frame rate, I reached 60-70 FPS; with nVidia Inspector, I reached less than 35 FPS - both very variable that make me prefer Framerate locking). So, when I see all those youtube fsx videos ("As Real as it gets", guitargamery vids, Cessna154 vids, and so on), running at 40 FPS, smooth as silk with building and terrain crisp till eye's reach, and after reading a Pc configuration much older than mine, I just want to smash my beatiful PC down the stairs, it's getting real frustruating! :angry: On some posts I read that FSX performance is strictly related to each kind of PC configuration... so, do I have to face the reality? Have I built a useless system to reach those levels of performance? Or is there a way to exploit the power of my system which is well above those of whom have published FSX movies of unquestionable quality? Just finding out a way to resolve my autogen and mesh definition issue would really make me happy! PLEASE... HELP!
