March 7, 200323 yr I purchased Fly!2 specifically for the PMDG 757 since my company was sending me to training on it. It was helpful but I have found it to be more pitch sensitive (even with joystick sensitivity turned down) that the real airplane or the 757 simulator. In fact, when you engage FLCHG mode, the nose will tend to hunt quite a bit up and down which usually causes me to just switch over to V/S mode. Any chance there's a patch that fixes this or can this be tweaked with some sort of a flight model editor?I realize that support on a product for Fly!2 is probably pretty low priority compared to FS2002 projects, however I would be willing to upload any fixes/recommendations I can come up with so that it is available to all.Regards,Tom
March 7, 200323 yr Commercial Member Tom-The pitch sensitivity that is flight control related is, **in my opinion** a result of the interface- and the lack of a control forces feedback model. (I'm not talking about force feedback- I'm talking about the actual control forces, etc...)I have always found desktop sims to be very pitch-over-sensitive... I've tried all manner of tricks to correct this- but haven't had much luck yet... I'll let you know when I do, however! The FLCH twitchiness that you describe is something we fought and fought and fought with FLY!II to resolve. FLY!II's autopilot logic was really not designed to handle the pitch moments of a large transport airplane. Although the flight model of the airplane was produced using lift/drag polar data for the wing surfaces in each configuration of the airplane- the autopilot model could be tweaked only within more limited boundaries....Picture the autopilot of a small business jet trying to keep up wit the performance parameters of a 757... Yep....that's what we started with.We tweaked and tuned for months- and the result was essentially decent. Some things could not be tuned out of the behavior, however- so those things are still in the model. On the up side- we have approached our autopilot routines with the 737NG using the appropriate control logic for an airplane of it's size- and she is flying beautifully.... March 7, 200323 yr Thanks,Sounds like you have really done your homework and it does show. One other subject I'd like to talk to you about: The VNAV mode seems a bit resistant to actually engage even though I check to make sure a cruise altitude is set and it differs from current altitude and MCP setting. Perhaps you've even seen/heared about the current trend to use VNAV to fly Non-Precision approaches in lieu of the dive-and-drive method. Is there any way to make VNAV a bit less resistant to engage so as to practice this procedure?Regards,TomPS: I'll be looking forward to the 737!
March 7, 200323 yr Commercial Member Tom-I don't see us making any changes to the 757 in the current market environment. Unfortunately, because the products don't have any forward compatability the potentional for continued growth and adjustment is poor.I know what you mean about the Dive-and-Drive approaches. I'm fortunate that the cities my line flies into are served heavily by ILS approaches- so the only time I wind up doing them is in the sim. Here in the US many VOR approaches are being replaced by GPS approaches that use a pseudo-glide-slope.I don't think Dive-and-Drive is any harder, especially when you are comfortable with your bird- but I also don't feel that they are stabilized to the degree of an ILS. Besides- I don't like flying close to anything I can't see with only lateral guidance to help me find the way home! Can you say who you fly for? Thanks for the note on the 737- I think this bird is going to be a real great airplane when we finish!Robert S.
