May 9, 200323 yr Dear Sirs,I am far less interested in posts of new paint schemes and new features of the exterior models. I'd like to see shots of the panel if anything, throttle quadrant, overhead, FMC or virtual cockpit. I've read your making a virtual cabin with wing views and a virtual cockpit? Guess I'm going to have to upgrade my system if I want to buy this one.Bob
May 9, 200323 yr Secondly, if you fly into icing conditions with out any anti-ice on will you crash? Engines fail, wings loose their lift...... I know a freeware aircraft, the superb YS-11, that already has these features and it cost's me nothing.
May 9, 200323 yr Bob,we are waiting until we reach beta status before we post detailed screenshots of the panels. We are still adding new features on a daily basis as well as completing the VC and all the functionality of the FMC. To make the wait a little more enjoyable, I decided to preview the parts of the product that are essentially done, such as the external model and the liveries. So just give us some more time, and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised at all the things we have in store for you.You also might want to wait to hear what our beta testers with their different machines have to say about performance. You probably won't need that upgrade afterall as our product is pretty easy on the frames.Sincerely,
May 10, 200323 yr Commercial Member Bob-As the remainder of the airplane completes development, PMDG has remained firm in that we are not showing too many images of parts of the airplane that are considered to be "under heavy development."The reason for this is quite simple: Imperfections that appear within in-development screen shots tend to invoke hysteria in small, but loud groups of individual's who forget they we are still hard at work on the airplane. The surrounding noise is simply too distracting to be bothered with, hence- we have only begun showing pictures of the nearly completed portions of the airplane just recently.I'm sorry that you are uninterested in seeing these portions, but it is important that we continue to show them as they are of interest to most users, and they should clearly demonstrate PMDG's attention to detail. After all, that is the purpose of our development endeavor! As for icing- I've seen and used the YS-11 model that you speak of. Unfortunately, the MSFS icing model is extraordinarily simplified, especially as it relates to temperature/moisture combinations we normally experience in the real world. Here are some notes on the "Brain Candy" that has been programmed into the icing systems currently modeled in the NG, since they seem to be of interest:-Both WING and EAI place penalties on the pneumatic system.-WAI cannot be operated off the APU, but requires engine operation to function.-WAI can be selected on during taxi, but should be turned off for takeoff. If you forget, advancing the throttles into the takeoff range will automatically deselect WAI in order that you be able to reach proper takeoff thrust without a severe N1/EGT penalty.-EAI requires DC power to operate the control valves. Loss of DC power drives the valves to the closed position which means you won't have EAI capability.-WAI control valves are AC powered. Loss of AC power will cause the valves to stop in whatever position they hold at the time of power loss. This can cause some rather obvious problems- but a loss of AC would be more worrisome to you than the WAI issue. ;-)-Wing/Body structure overheat warnings are possible in the airplane. It should be noted that the QRH can help you determine if a Wing/Body OVHT warning on the ground is actual or a false positive based on external heating of the wing/airplane surfaces by sunlight.-Duct OVHT conditions can lead to fire structural failure of not addressed properly, or if you guess incorrectly and don't follow the established troublshooting procedures.So- as in the real world, flight through icing conditions won't cause you to crash- but you have some actions to accomplish in the cockpit.Hope that expands your understanding."Brain Candy." I kinda like that phrase! Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com
