July 6, 200322 yr Hello,I have noticed problems related to the FMC on a few other posts, but I thought that I would share my own findings.I am planning a flight between KATL and KMCO in the 737-600. I use the fs2002 flight planner to plan my flight (still stunned that the internal flight planner is not supported.. oh well). I go to the flightsmyflts folder and copy/paste my flight plan into the kneeboard so that I can use the FS2002 generated flight information to hand-enter into the PMDG 737-600 FMC (hand-entering is realistic, so I can hack it). The flight looks like this:[flightplan]title=KATL to KMCOdescription=KATL, KMCOtype=VFRroutetype=3cruising_altitude=19500departure_id=KATL, N33* 38.08', W84* 26.85', +001026.00departure_position=9Ldestination_id=KMCO, N28* 26.87', W81* 19.34', +000096.00departure_name=The Hartsfield Atlanta Intldestination_name=Orlando Intlwaypoint.0=KATL, A, N33* 38.08', W84* 26.85', +001026.00, waypoint.1=K7MCN, V+LOCWAY, N32* 41.47', W83* 38.83', +000000.00, waypoint.2=K7AMG, V+LOCWAY, N31* 32.19', W82* 30.48', +000000.00, J45waypoint.3=K7HILRD, I+LOCWAY, N30* 50.81', W81* 55.76', +000000.00, J45waypoint.4=K7YULEE, I+LOCWAY, N30* 42.87', W81* 49.18', +000000.00, J45waypoint.5=K7VQQ, V+LOCWAY, N30* 12.78', W81* 53.45', +000000.00, J81waypoint.6=K7ORL, V+LOCWAY, N28* 32.56', W81* 20.10', +000000.00, J81waypoint.7=KMCO, A, N28* 26.87', W81* 19.34', +000096.00, then, I get into the air, get closer to the destination and confirm that we have southerly winds. This helps me choose my runway and my STAR. So, I use the STARS that were made available to us over the July 4th weekend. When I load up the AMG.LEESE9 STAR, there are some overlapping waypoints:STAR AMG.LEESE9 NAVAID AMG NAVAID SHEMP NAVAID UGENE NAVAID COAXE NAVAID ALADN NAVAID LEESE NAVAID ORL RNW 17 RNW 18L RNW 18R RNW 35 RNW 36L RNW 36RSo now there are two routes in the FMC seperated by a route discontinuity. So, I start to delete items from the old segment from AMG to ORL and then I get two route discontinuity boxes and some of the characters go all screwy. As I continue to delete old waypoints and attempt bringing the AMG from the STAR up to the last enroute way point, FS2002 will FREEZE UP HARD!!!I have just done this 3 times so that I could report this under replicable circumstances. Now, I am sure that a partial solution is to pick a STAR before I leave and work the middle of the route after SID and STAR is selected and I will try that next. However, this makes me wary of any in-flight editing. Before downloading the SIDS/STARS this evening, my flight planning was simpler and done in a linear fashion either from the internal FS2002 flight planner OR from charts. When things were linear, I had no problems. However, this problem is arising from extensive editing, which the FMC does not seem to like. Here are the error messages from the Event Log on the most recent two freezes:"Hanging application fs2002.exe, version 8.0.0.10919, hang module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.1106, hang address 0x000254f9."AND"Hanging application fs2002.exe, version 8.0.0.10919, hang module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.1217, hang address 0x00043950."I am sorry this product is meeting with so many issues and bugs; my anticipation was great! I know the product will mature into something wonderful, but growing pains are... well, painful. The flight model is a WONDER to hand-fly, but there is a plethora of niggles and this is one of them. It has been a long time since I have needed a save utility and I might need one now if I plan on getting at all fancy with the FMC during a flight. Thanks,Jeffry Babb
