737 PMDG question

Featured Replies

Hello,I have to say that i really love this aircraft, it has all the right things going for it. I am sure that after the patch things will be ever better. One question i have is why is the 737 dependant on the PIC fmc data. I just reinstalled my system for the 3 time in two weeks and wondered why the fmc was saying data invalid or not in database. I finally twigged, no 767 installed as i fresh installed my pc???JUst curious for the answerRegardsDarren

Dear Darren-We're not dependent on the PIC FMC data - it so happens that we CHOSE to make our FMC navaid database format 100% compatible with the most widely accepted format that exists out there (by www.navdata.at downloads). Also, it has another advantage: It's all text - no binary format to worry about errors etc. If you don't like something, you EDIT it, and off you go!Wait a couple days longer and Richard Stefan will be providing a universal AIRAC database creator which will also include a PMDG version.Cheers,

I must say that was a very considderate and wise choice if you ask me!Also thanks for your AMAZING manual! :-)Really am falling in love with this plane!Boaz...

Lefteris, can I make a request on this subject? If the navdata is found in the PMDG folder, you use that. If not, you use the data in the FMCWP folder. This way one could use different data in the two aircraft by installing in PMDGnavdata and FMCWPnavdata. Please.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Sounds great to me :)

Lee-why ever would you want to duplicate the data? Don't you use the latest AIRAC cycles anyway?

Simple. From time to time the newer AIRACs have bugs in them that cause all kinds of wierd problems with 767PIC. Many of us keep using the old reliable AIRAC, particularly if we mostly fly in the USA since that changes so slowly. Things like airports suddenly being in the wrong place springs to mind.I guess what I am asking is if it would be possible to not force someone to change their PIC data if they don't wish to. It seems a little "antisocial" to force people to install new stuff in another publisher's folder. I figured it might not be very complicated for your software to look in the PMDG folder first. There are certainly more pressing issues you are dealing with.Lee Hetherington (KBED)

Lee-you don't *have* to change your PIC data. You can use the same "old" AIRAC cycle to fly our aircraft too, of course. What I am trying to say is: What holds true for PIC, holds true for our aircraft in terms of the NavData files... so if you want to keep the older files around because the newer ones have "issues", you'd want to do that for our aircraft too!

No. I could not use my old AIRAC data. The NG did not like it even though PIC did.All the USA airports were east of 0E, it wouldn't accept an IRS position, etc. Everyone in the forum told me I needed to get the latest AIRAC for PIC and install it. I grudgingly did, and the NG started working, but I am wondering what I have done to PIC.Would you like me to send you the AIRAC by Jason Barlow I was using to see why your software was misinterpreting it?Lee Hetherington (KBED)

I agree with Lee on this one, and unfortunately think I will wait to purchase the PMDG 737NG...I would not want anything to interfere with PIC767 until all doubt about this event is removed.Regards, jack noullet
