APP & ILS system

Hello everybody:When I click on APP button the plane dives very fast instead of capture ILS for final approach, where is my problem? Thanks very muchAndre CYUL

A work-around is to first engage LOC, and when the glideslope becomes active you can hit APP. Doing like this you won

Hi Andre,This occurs when APP is selected before the G/S is detected (vertical G/S icon is not seen, but horizontal LOC icon is present). If you wait for G/S acquisition (not necessarily "capture") this problem will not occur. Note that you can use the LOC button on the A/P to allow the a/c to capture the LOC, until the G/S is acquired.Bruce.

Hi Andre,Seems that PMDG is simulating the real thing :-badteeth From the real 737-700 AOM:Glideslope capture occurs at approximately 2/5 dot deviation. The G/S cannot be captured prior to localizer capture.WARNING: With the autopilot engaged, if the glideslope is capturedfrom above, the autopilot may pitch over abruptly and could cause a hazard to personnel not strapped into their seats.Next time you capture GS from above be sure to warn the crew and to have those seatbelts on! ;)Aleksandar

Hi BruceThanks very much for your hyelp.Much appreciated.Andre CYUL

I'm almost 100% certain that the correct real world procedure for a coupled approach is to arm LOC mode first. You do not want to even have the chance of deviating from your assigned altitude until you've been cleared for the approach by ATC.Ryan

Hi, Even when I put the NAV 1 with the ILS frequency, many times I cannot have the LOC or GS active, and I must end with a manual landing. What is the problem? And for autoland, do I need to set both NAV 1 and 2 with the ILS frequency or just NAV 1?thankscoimbra

"From the real 737-700 AOM:Glideslope capture occurs at approximately 2/5 dot deviation. The G/S cannot be captured prior to localizer capture."This is a Flight Control Computer option, Aleksandar, according to some notes I have on the 737 A/P. It's also an option on the 747-400 (I haven't checked our latest aircraft AOM, but our earlier 747-400's don't have this option). I'd have to get back to you on whether our 737NG's have this.Options like this can generally be activated by shorting out a pin on the electrical connectors of the A/P computer.... or by software....or by a combination of both. CheersIan.

Hi Coimbra (Real name?),I *think* that in PMDG you can perform an autoland with only one radio tuned to ILS freq (I am not home so I must doublecheck if this is really a case).Nevertheless, in the real 737 the procedure is as follows:One VHF NAV receiver must be tuned to an ILS frequency before the approach mode can be selected. For a dual A/P approach, the second VHF NAV receiver must be tuned to the ILS frequency and the corresponding A/P engaged in CMD prior to 800 feet RA.Also do note that in real 737 during fail passive operation (i.e. dual A/Ps), the flight controls respond to the A/P commanding the lesser control movement.Best regards!

Hi Ian,Always interesting to read your posts :) I am no hardware guru so I will stay out of any A/P computer or pax will be informed: "Dear pax, Aleksandar just shorted some pins to improve our otto in acrobatic maneuvers." :-badteethAnyway, the A/P I am familiar with has G/S capture inhibited prior to LOC capture. G/S can be captured from above and below. However, as I posted above, due to the warning it is not so recommendable to do A/P commanded G/S capture from above.I would be interested to hear how your 737's are configured wrt G/S capture.Best regards
