Persistent Livery Problems

Featured Replies

I've had several exchanges with PMDG by email but this problem is yet to be fixed. I have never encountered it on any livery install with any of the numerous commercial planes I have. This plane is the only one. The problem is that whenever I install a livery and fly the plane my gear will not retract. If, while flying, I load a version of the 737 which does not have a livery installed, the problem corrects itself. When I load the livery plane the problem with the gears repeats itself. I then have to completely reinstall a new aircraft cfg file because if I just delete the new livery entries the problem doesn't go away.So I removed all liveries and freshly installed PMDG 737 and the patch. Flew various versions of the 737 with no problem - gear retracts as it should. I then, hoping that the patch addressed some hidden issue, tried an install of the 737-700 SouthWest Spirit Winglets Livery. Here are the entries after the 0-5 original {fltsim.5} being the last) entries. The parenthesis are brackets of course.{fltsim.6}title= Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Virtual Cockpit/Cabin/Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLVCCABpanel=VCsound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - Virtual Cockpit & Cabinui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REF{fltsim.7}title=Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Virtual Cockpit/Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLVCpanel=VCsound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - Virtual Cockpitui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REF{fltsim.8}title=Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLpanel=sound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - 2D Cockpit Onlyui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REFI then took her up and the gears wouldn't go up per usual. While in flight I then loaded a non livery version - the 737-600 and sure enough the gears went up upon pressing 'g'. I reloaded the SW Airlines and as per usual pressing 'g' brought no response. This same problem goes for every livery I install in whatever version. There is some kind of gremlin at work here. I don't have an atypical system. My system specs are: XP Home, 2.8 ghz. 533 FSB, 1 gig. ddr ram, Radeon 9700TX 128 mb.I also have made sure at all times the hydraulics are on so there are no problems in the panel configuration as of course the problem goes away when I simply load a version of the 737 I haven't installed liveries for.Any suggestions because I'm completely baffled?

I should note that it doesn't help to simply replace the new livery aircraft config file with the original backup one, I have to completely reinstall PMDG 737 in its entirety to return THAT troubled 737 version to normal.

Ok Len, Let's see if we can tract this bugger down, First I need to know in what Flight Sims you are running, 2002, COF or both. [h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Thanks for the response Randy - FS2002. Don't have FS9 yet.

I am at a loss to what could be the problem here. So I understand you correctly that you've always had this problem? When you uninstalled the original installation, did you remove *ALL* files (All *GAU, PMDGOptions.DLL from Modules folder, Main PMDG folder etc) )from every FS folder before reinstalling the original EXE and applying the patch? Did the patch give ANY *could not copy etc* message whatsoever? Did you double check that the LIVERIES installer is pointing correctly to your *main* fs folder? Did you put the added liveries entries into the 700WL aircraft CFG file, not the 700 aircraft CFG file? Are you running windows 98 or ME? Sorry for the twenty questions ;) [h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. But I read if you do to delete a particular file by hand which I did. Every reinstall I include the patch in the reinstall and no more messages like that.> Did you double check that the LIVERIES installer is pointing correctly to your *main* fs folder? Yes it is.>Did you put the added liveries entries into the 700WL aircraft CFG file, not the 700 aircraft CFG file?Yes. The livery shows up as it should. The texture file is where it should be including the notepad file with the extract to copy and paste to the aircraft config file. You'd never know there was a problem since the livery shows up as it should in the sim - until you start flying.> Are you running windows 98 or ME? Sorry for the twenty questions XP homeMaybe I'll uninstall the whole thing instead of reinstalling. I'll try that and report back.

Wise choice ;) One thing please do not remove your license folder! [h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. I reinstalled by just removing all the PMDG airplane related folders in the aircraft folder of fs2002. I then reinstalled the main files and then the patch. I then installed the winglet Southwest livery. It shows up as it should in the PMDG737-700-Winglets folder in the aircraft folder of fs2002. 'texture.WNL' shows up there along with the 'WN Add to Aircraft Config file' with the following entry which I paste to the aircraft config file in the same folder:{fltsim.x}title= Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Virtual Cockpit/Cabin/Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLVCCABpanel=VCsound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - Virtual Cockpit & Cabinui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REF{fltsim.x}title=Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Virtual Cockpit/Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLVCpanel=VCsound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - Virtual Cockpitui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REF{fltsim.x}title=Southwest Airlines 737-7H4 - Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLpanel=sound=texture=WNLchecklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N426WNatc_airline=Southwestatc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - 2D Cockpit Onlyui_variation=Southwest Airlines w/Wingletsdescription=Boeing 737-700 with CFM56-7B22 engines v 1.0nPrecision Manuals Development Groupnwww.precisionmanuals.com nFor use with BOEING 737: The Next Generation by PMDG nFor Technical Support please visit www.precisionmanuals.com or email [email protected] nPMDG Developer and Customer Forum available at our website. nSounds Developed in conjunction with SkySong Soundworks nFSUIPC Commercially Licensed from Pete Downson nAll Artwork encoded using Digimark Technology nFor Registration or License Questions please contact [email protected] nThank you for supporting PMDG!nvisual_damage=1atc_heavy=0kb_reference=PMDG737NG_REFThe numbers become 6, 7, 8 as noted in my original post.I went to fly it and the livery shows up in all her beauty waiting to fly the friendly skies. I take her up, press 'g' to retract the gears and ...nothing. I can press the gear leaver in the cockpit and it goes up but the gear stay down. I press ctrl-g to manually bring up the gears - no go. Again, the hydraulics lights are out and all switches are on which should be. I'm quite use to this bird since I've been flying dreamfleet's 737 for almost a year. The startup procedure is virtually the same.In any event, I'm back to square-one again.

Len, Robert and Lefteris have a new patch coming today but I want you to follow this thred of my and please remove ALL items I list, I feel the installer is not getting all the files and just removing the aircraft folder won't do, it must be complete. So remove all and install the patch OR wait for the new one which we will see shortly... http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...882&page=#11891[h5]Best Wishes,Randy J. Thanks Randy. I'll wait for the new patch and follow your instructions.

Len,Where are you adding the entries for the new livieries? At the bottom of the aircraft.cfg, or after the last texture entry, and above the other misc things?

Fred and RandyAfter the last original entry as noted above and before the {General} section. So in the winglet config file the succeeding numbers become 6, 7, 8.I've loaded many liveries and installed them in aircraft config files. I'm very familiar with the process. And Randy, before the new patch I decided to uninstall exactly as you suggested in your link. I did so and thought I would try it out with the existing patch so if the new patch fixes it, it will all become moot. I then reinstalled everything + patch. I then installed the winglet livery SW, same one noted above (I'm just picking on this one but it could be anyone of the liveries for the variants), and entered FS. Beautiful livery it is by the way. I then took her up and...gears wouldn't go up (again). Just to confirm while flying I loaded up a non-liveried variant and yes the gears went up as expected.Question: Where is the "gear" command located?

Could it be the version of FSUIPC I'm running? I'm using 2.974 - March 14/03. I'm not running any background software except FSNavigator. The entries for the aircraft config are the following (just included the 'General' word to show I'm putting the entries in the right place:{fltsim.0}title=PMDG 737-700 - Wingletssim=B737-700WLmodel=WLpanel=sound=texture=checklists=PMDG737NG_CHECKatc_id_color=0xffffffffatc_id=N737PMatc_airline=atc_flight_number=737ui_manufacturer=Boeing-PMDGui_type=737-700 - I don't know how FSUIPC could be your problem, but you never know. You should make a backup of your current FSUIPC.ini and FSUIPC.dll, and then install FSUIPC 3.03 and see what happens. If you odn't like it you can go back, of course ;-)

If you odn't like it you can go back, of courseI'll try just about anything at this point. Hopefully when I get FS9 this will go away.
