September 5, 200322 yr I have just been trying to create a route LEPA-EGGW in the FMC.The basic route saves OK. I have created the SIDs I need for LEPA and after much fiddling I do not get any line errors showing in the FMC.I have also created the STARs I need for EGGW and again got no errors showing in the FMC.I can load the basic route via the Co Route LSK and can activate and execute it, I can also select my STAR for EGGW, activate and execute it. However as soon as I go to DEP page for LEPA I get 'Program error' in the FMC scratchpad.EDIT: I should add that the SID includes a DME arc which I have programmed using a series of w'pts, is there a limit on the number of w'pts in a SID/STAR?Can anyone suggest a reaason for this? My only thought at the moment is that the end w'pt of the SID is included as the first w'pt in the basic route so you would end up with 2 DRAGO's. This does not affect other FMC's I have used, just wondered if this one objects to 2 instances of the same w'pt.I understand the FMC uses the navdata stored in the FMCWP directory, if this is correct it is shame that it only seems to read VORs and NDBs and not the w'pts, at least the few SID/STARs I have tried will not pick up w'pts (fixes) unless I define them in the SID/STAR txt file.WOuld it be possible to have the FMC read the wpNavFIX.txt file in the FMCWP directory?ThanksDave

There are some problems with 0309, so if you're using that, try going to 0308.Second, I think that two waypoints of the same name in direct sequence would be a no-no, so try deleting one.Hope this helps.
September 5, 200322 yr Author Thanks for the reply Timothy.I am using 0309 but I wil try eliminating the double w'pt first, it's easier :-)Dave
September 5, 200322 yr Author Hmmm, this gets stranger and stranger.Gone back to AIRAC 0308, still get 'program error' so I thought I would start over.Deleted the saved flight plan and started from scratch.Created the basic flight plan, no problem.Went to DEP, selected rwy and DRAGO dep, no problem.Went to ARR and selected rwy and LOREL2C STAR, no problem. So basically at this point I was back to where I started with no errors.I cleared the route and started again with the basic route from DRAGO (end of SID) to MID (start of LOREL2C STAR) and saved the route. The FMC saved the route as LEPAEGGW001.I cleared the route once again from the FMC and then called up the route using the Co route line, entering LEPAEGGW001, the basic flight plan loaded OK. As soon as I went the the DEP page I got the 'program error' back.I have done this 3 times now, each time I create the route from scratch in the FMC all goes well, each time call the route from the saved plan I get the 'program error' as soon as I go to the DEP page.Any helpful comments?Dave
September 5, 200322 yr After loading a flight plan, try:1. At the RTE page, key in a departure runway or just press DEL and delete the blank runway. Press EXEC.2. Go to DEP/ARR page and try selecting a departure runway, it should be fine now.To avoid the problem, save the plan with a departure runway.
September 6, 200322 yr Author Hi Alan,Put 5 'brownie points' after your name and go to the top of your class :D That did the trick, many thanks.Next question is, is this just the way this FMC works or is it a glitch? I can't test it on the outbound route because I haven't yet managed to create any SID/STARs for EGGW and I can access the DEP/ARR page without a problem but of course the DEP page is empty.RgdsDave
September 11, 200322 yr Just to chime in here, I've experienced this problem too, both with 0309 and 0308 navdata. It definitely only occurs when loading a saved route, but it doesn't happen every time. Not sure what the trigger is.I'll try the work-around later.
