New Pilot Resources - Welcome Aboard!
Real world charts. Many countries' airport charts are available for free online. Sometimes it takes a bit of effort to get them, usually knowing where to look. The usual place to look for is "AIP" Aeronautical Information Publication. This is broken down into sections, e.g en-route, airports. For airports look for AD2 within the AIP Alternatively subscribe to Navigraph for monthly updates.

New Pilot Resources - Welcome Aboard!
If you want to learn how to fly a 737 using real world procedures search YouTube for flightdeck2sim, he's RL 737 captain and has done a lot of tutorials for flying the 737-800 as in real life, mainly the PMDG 738 and X-Plane Zibo mod 738. His early videos are the main tutorials.

UK Farm strips
The CIX scenery is free so why not give them a go. I don't have a problem with frame rates and the scenery looks OK. I also have UK2000's VFR scenery.

FSX-SE Screenshots
Another solution is to disable the Steam overlay in FSX in your games list on Steam right click MFS then click Properties from the dropdown list anad untick "Enable the Steam overlay while in-game" If you don't want the Steam overlay to be enabled in any of your Steam games then Steam->settings and untick the enable steam overlay. [21JUL16] Planned eCommerce and License Activation Outage
I predict that PMDG's 747 will be in our hangers before a certain 'Bus, which was front page news on Airdailyx.net as "Ready for takeoff" back in May

help with creating sequence of key presses
You can do that by creating a macro in FSUIPC. I don't have the documentation to hand but look at the FSUIPC user guide and the advanced guide, details will be there.

Taking FS to another level!
Search VATSIM forums for CPDLC and you will find many references. I haven't read all the posts but this one looks like a working example back in 2009. https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=40595&p=301542#p301542 It would certainly help with big events such as CtP.

AES
If you downloaded the base pack, which is free, only a few airports will have AES activated and others will be in 'demo' mode. When you set up AES it will search your scenery.cfg file and list all the airports you have. That list will be shown in AES and each airport will show it's either free, in demo mode, or show how many credits is needed to activate that airport. Note that you can't buy say 5 credits and attach them to 5 airports then move them to 5 others, the credits remain with the airport you initially activate. All this should be clearly explained in the user manual.

FlyTampa Kai Tak issue
I can't find any link and it's so long since I installed it I may have it wrong but that tall building on approach is not in my FSX. It may have been from the Thomas Kwong VHHH (the new Hong Kong airport). If you have that installed try deactivating it in your scenery library and see if that tall building disappears. Failing that ask in the FlyTampa Kai Tak forum, someone must know!

FlyTampa Kai Tak issue
IIRC the FlyTampa version depicts a later landscape hence that skyscraper that's in the way. It's a long time since I flew into there but I think there was a patch that you could apply to remove the syscraper. Failing that see if the 9Dragons scenery is still available

which fsx vfr package for real vfr flying practice
The Horizon GenX scenery is only for the UK AFAIK so not that useful to you IMO. If you really want it it's available here http://www.flightstore.co.uk/flight-simulation-c499/scenery-add-ons-c543/vfr-photographic-scenery-fsx-c544 Also Justflight sell a similar product Real VFR Scenery http://www.justflight.com/searchresults?category=products&query=vfr+scenery I gained my UK PPL just under 2 years ago and normally use FSX to fly routes to new locations so that I can memorize landmarks and waypoint features. If you plan your route as you would do in real life, draw your route on your chart, create your PLOG for no wind and set FSX to no wind, that way you can concentrate on just flying the route. Find an aircraft similar to the one you would fly so the view and performance will be similar. Have your chart handy and start flying while noting your timings to waypoints and matching those waypoints to your chart. It's very informative and fun. Dave

understanding cloud thickness
Vulcan replied to abh_jc_03's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support ForumCloud thickness is, as the name suggests, the thickness of the clouds. If the cloud base is 2,000ft and thickness is 5,000ft then the top of the cloud is 7,000ft. The 1/8 - 8/8 number is the amount of cloud cover as a percentage and is the standard way of expressing cloud cover, 1/8 oktas is 'Few' and the numbers range through 'scattered' to overcast which is 8/8 oktas. Hope that helps.

Installation of Earth simulations Isle of Man boxed edition
With the help of Tony IoM is now successfully installed on my system. For whatever reason the earlier attempts did not actually copy files to my PC despite the installer saying it was doing so. The successful attempt followed the same procedure (no Internet connection) as earlier attempts but this time files and folders were created on my PC. Thanks Tony for your help. Dave

EZDOC & Trackir
Run them together. Read the installation documentation for both products, TrackIR is simple but there are a couple of settings need changing in Ezdoc, the manual explains. I think they are a great combination, especially for 'liners; there's no need to crane your neck to look at the overhead panel now

Installation of Earth simulations Isle of Man boxed edition
Glad you got it installed finally Rich, evidently my IoM has got lost in the post so I'll have to wait a few more days. Can't help with the stuttering and blurryness as I don't have the scenery yet but as Stus says try reducing traffic and autogen; it obviously depends on your hardware as well.

Installation of Earth simulations Isle of Man boxed edition
Stufer, Rich, there should be no need to enter any email or password, that was to register the product when ES was still in business. Rich, go to control panel ->programs, find ES installer and uninstall it then delete any Earth Simulations folders. Next disable internet connection and then instal the scenery again. If you still have the ES installer on your system I think that wil keep trying to "call home" and there isn't any home now ;-) Or wait until my copy arrives and I'll do a step by step install for you or ask on the Flightstore forum for help, they are very good. Dave

Installation of Earth simulations Isle of Man boxed edition
Rich, you do need to uninstall the ES installer, I also just deleted the ES treescape folders when I had similar problems with treescapes. If I had read the manual first I don't think I would have got into trouble, apart from the disabling the Internet; that was suggested by flightsimstore forum when I posted with my install problems.

Installation of Earth simulations Isle of Man boxed edition
Russel, I haven't read all the posts so you may have an answer already, if not read on. I recently purchased ES's Treescapes boxed version and I am still waiting for IoM but here's what worked for me after fumbling along like you have been. Have a read of the PDF manual and hopefully it will tell how to install from a DVD First disable Internet access, the ES installed tries to "phone home" but of course ES are no longer in business. Then run through the install process and the installer should pick up the install from the DVD. I can't access my FSX PC just now but will post more, if needed, later. Dave
