October 9, 200322 yr Hello,I discovered a fuel system bug while enroute to LICC.With all fuel pumps ON, the center fuel thank became empty and suddenly right engine shutted down in spite of left and right fuel thanks were full.Is this normal?
October 9, 200322 yr This is a known issue. If you want to be completely realistic about it you should follow the real-world procedure (turning OFF the Center Tank fuel pumps when the quantity reduces to 400kg or so).The wing tanks then kick in no problem.Running the centre tank dry can result in the failure of one or both engines (on the PMDG aircraft, not the real NG one hopes!).Perhaps this will be sorted in the forthcoming SU2?
October 9, 200322 yr Hi both of youPlease sign your posts with your real names as per the forum rules.Nameless two already answered the question about the flame out.Nameless one. If you have all fuel pumps on, the center tank will still be emptied first. This is due to the fact the center tank fuel pumps will produce a higher pressure than the main fuel pumps. Thus forcing the fuel from the center tank to the engines.Regards, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 9, 200322 yr Hi Mats, does this mean that if i start my flight with center tank empty and center fuel pumps OFF this won't happen? Thanks in advance for helpingLuigi ;-)
October 9, 200322 yr Luigi,That is correct!Cheers, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 9, 200322 yr HI MatsThe high fuel pressure cause the engine shutdown?Regards,Massimo Max Sarotto
October 9, 200322 yr MassimoAhh....eh... No ;-)The flame outs seems to be related to more intricate FS issues. Hopefully this will be sorted with SU2. I haven't heard any beta tester having problems with flame outs on the latest builds.Regards, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
October 9, 200322 yr Hi Fellows,Robert wrote me a note last week to confirm that PMDG has in fact found the cause of the engine flameout problem when the center wing tank goes dry and it is FIXED in the SU2 patch. However as noted by Matt, the Boeing procedure is to shut down the tanks at about 1000 lbs of fuel to keep the pumps cool and prevent any spontaneous combustion problems.CheersBob Johnson
