2 Questions about 737 NG, Max Range and Virtual Cockpit -

Featured Replies

Hello,I am contemplating purchase of the 737 package and would like to pose a few questions when you have time to answer them:(1) What is the maximum range of your modeled 737's? I would like to be able to fly nonstop from New York to London, Los Angeles to Hawaii, ect. I know the 737's are not in the range class of 757's and 767's but I would still like to be able to do some trans-oceanic flights in the sim.(2) Can I configure your 737 to have interior views without the virtual cockpit (for higher FPS) and still have the wonderfully detailed exterior model with the folding airstairs and such? Ideally I would like to use only bitmaps for interior cockpit views (looking left, right, ect), without the virtual cockpit framerate hit. Is this possible?Thank you.

Hello Rugerdog (please post your real name in the PMDG forum).1) The maximum range of a 737 is typically less than 3,500 statute miles, so no non stop trips from New York to Hawaii ;-)2) When loading the PMDG 737 in MSFS, you have a choice between 2D views only, 2D and VC, or 2D and VC with cabin. When you select 2D views only, you will get only bitmaps for interior cockpit views all around.VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif

Thank you for your reply.Reading your response I would gather that the 737's you have modeled would have a maximum range of about 3000 nautical miles with typical fuel reserves to alternate and headwind component? Also, if I configure your software to use 2D cockpits views only, will I still have the detailed exterior model (viewing from spot mode outside the aircraft I mean).Thank you.

"Also, if I configure your software to use 2D cockpits views only, will I still have the detailed exterior model (viewing from spot mode outside the aircraft I mean)."Yes you will. I Use 2D all the time, as my system specs are not fantastic, and the Exteral views of the aircraft are not comprimised in any way. It's a sweet Jet to fly.Paul.

Thank you, I really wanted to make sure of that :)

Yup.. the exterior model is the same for all 3 cockpit options, (and just so you know, you have 5 options for exterior models as well.. for a total of 15 variations)VinPMDGwww.precisionmanuals.comhttp://www.vinscimone.com/dancnkid.gif

Hi there,>(1) What is the maximum range of your modeled 737's? I would like to be able to fly nonstop from New York to London, Los Angeles to Hawaii, ect. I know the 737's are not in the range class of 757's and 767's but I would still like to be able to do some trans-oceanic flights in the sim.800 and -900, and after that the BBJ and military variants. As there are a few user repaints for the BBJ already (Privat Air, US and Australian Air Force), I have changed the weight and fuel sections in the aircraft.cfg to increase the range (I used the technical information from the Boeing website). It now goes very far, and behaves as I would expect it to (I've nver flown the real thing, so I wouldn't know for sure :)).Cheers,Gosta. http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Hello, could you please me how exactly how you configured your 737 to increase it's range? I don't have the software yet but I am very close to purchasing it and would really be interested in how you have yours set up.Thank you.

Hi there, just create a new folder in your 'aircraft' folder, call it something like 'PMDG 737-700 BBJ, copy over the 737-700 Winglets/Stairs model folder, the panel, sound folder and the FDE and aircraft.cfg. Then add the texture folders of your choice. Edit the aircraft.cfg accordingly, then replace the 'weights and balance' and 'fuel' section with the following:[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]reference_datum_position= 52.730, 0.000, 2.120empty_weight_CG_position=-48.170, 0.000, 0.000max_number_of_stations=50empty_weight=83000.000empty_weight_roll_MOI=1411540.000empty_weight_pitch_MOI=1821510.000empty_weight_yaw_MOI=1518876.000empty_weight_coupled_MOI=230.000//station_load.0=11198.000, -48.350, 0.000, 1.050//max_gross_weight=153500.000CG_forward_limit=0.133CG_aft_limit=0.330[fuel]Center1= -44.870, 0.000, -2.800, 6899.000, 0.000LeftMain= -51.380, -16.000, -0.800, 1288.000, 0.000RightMain=-51.380, 16.000, -0.800, 1288.000, 0.000fuel_type=2.000000number_of_tank_selectors=1electric_pump=1Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
