October 29, 200322 yr Hi All, Frankly, I'm embarrassed to ask this question, as it's quite petty from my point of view, but what the heck, I'll throw it out there anyways.Sometimes, on a long night transcon flight, I'll go on back to some of the wing views and kinda sit and watch the city lights..etc.. pass by below, and then when you swing the view point back to the cabin, if the computer room is dark, man is it really really bright white. Not bad in the daytime, but at night if your eyes have adjusted to the darkness outside the windows, the cabin lighting can kind of be harsh on the eyes. Anyway, would kinda be cool if there were a dimmer switch to tone the lighting down at night, I suppose thats what they do in real life too. Anyway, I know, I'll probably get flamed for such a petty thing when there are aAPU and fuel issues people are struggling with, but hey, if it's easy, I'd sure like it.Regards,Shane LewisAtlanta, GA
October 29, 200322 yr This in NO WAY represents PMDG but I have been toying around with this myself because I tend to agree with you, not that the default one is not nice for floodlighting (it looks a lot like the real one with full lights on) plus I need to keep these hands busy. This is a very ROUGH CUT of something I am testing, what you think of something like this?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/45866.jpg[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. October 29, 200322 yr That looks pretty sharp Randy, I think you've done a great job on it. Would you make it available to folks somehow (if PMDG doesn't change it?). How about the Virtual Cabin, any ideas to quiet that down a bit at night?Regards,Shane LewisAtlanta, GA
October 29, 200322 yr Thanks guys, if you are not aware, changing the lighting scheme would involve not only this main panel but the zoom, landing, approach and upper panels plus you would like to match the VC (VC is master Vin's department) which is no easy task! For every item that *moves* when you click it, you must have their bitmaps match along with proper shadows etc. The thing I have learned is this is a learn as you go type of thing. Sometimes it looks great out of game but load it up and issues with various things like some areas being too dark etc or unwanted banding. A lot of trial and error. I would be quite happy with ONE lighting scheme if it's easy on the eyes. This panel is so complicated compared to others with all it's various veiws that all have to match so a dynamic scheme IMO would be vary difficult if not impossible but who knows ;)..........[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. October 30, 200322 yr Love it - would love to see it implemented.Joe LorencVice President, Carolina Operations, VN7 Networkhttp://www.vn7network.com/ Joe Lorenc
October 30, 200322 yr Hello Randy,Nice work, I would download instantly! My advice is to not try to deliver the perfect solution at once. A solution for the 2D main panel will satisfy me and a lot of PMDG users. Thereafter you may take in our gratitude and go for the VC solution. I'm looking forward to use your cabin lighting during a long, long night flight.Ulf B
