November 19, 200322 yr Hi AllI have had the PMDG 737NG within my virtual aeronautical "inventory" for about a month and have enjoyed every minute with it so far (apart from b*ggering up programming the FMC but I guess that's my fingers at fault rather than the FMC!).I have particularily enjoyed hand-flying the aircraft and practising my virtual landing skills at various airports, particularily Manston in Kent (big runway, not much local AI traffic, UK VFR scenery and the sea to offer some eye-candy) but am wondering if any of you can suggest some larger airports worth using for extra "circuit" practise? It's important that they havea) VOR/ILS/NDB on a single runway:( Limited commercial AI flights(to keep the frame-rates happy)c) eye-candy for those visual approaches!Doesn't matter where in the world it is - just would like some suggestions for other locations to visit for visual circuit practise in this super aircraft.Any suggestions greatly appreciatedRegardsAdam Moore

Over the years, I've seen many aircraft use it, including 747, DC10-30 A340. It has ALL the facilities you requested, but no published nbd approach although the ndb is on the runway centreline. It also has cross runways and very often it has lousy weather (I think thats why we train there!) Check it out....
November 19, 200322 yr My suggestion:My home airport Little Rock/Adams Field,It's got all the approaches you're looking for including RNAV. The VOR approach is pretty tough. Commercial traffic is pretty slight, it's got a great city add-on scenery, and the approach over the river is fantastic. Also, Little Rock AFB is next door, you can hop between the two.
November 19, 200322 yr Hi,I'm not sure if these places have the approach types that you want, but if you want some REALLY long runways you could go to Edwards AFB (KEDW) or the space shuttle landing facility in Florida (not sure of the ICAO, KSC maybe?). I'm not sure if these places are in FS, or again, if they have all of those approaches. If they are there and work ok for your needs though, you could probably even practice "stop and go's" on these runways. :D-Shaun
November 19, 200322 yr Hi ShaunJust for your information KEDW (Edwards) is simulated in FS and it has really has got a huge runway. Additionally there is an ILS for one of the runway directions and a VOR on the ILS final.Edwars is not really a place with a great scenery since it is located in the middle of the desert but one thing is there, you should have seen: There is a space shuttle parked on the apron! Wouldn't it be great to park your 737NG right beside an orbiter? ;-)CheersMartin
November 19, 200322 yr I can certainly vouch for shannon! It's my local airport and is mainly based around aircraft maintainance and test flights due to the low traffic(commercial) and very low landing rates. There's a golf course located on it's perimeter, I was playing it one day ina competition. The concorde was flying test flights with the gear down-no expression could describe how loud it was. They did it all day too- no point in saying that my score was pathetic! :-rollJohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
November 19, 200322 yr Cool. I will have to stop by and check out the shuttle. Do you know which one it is? :D-Shaun
November 19, 200322 yr Author Thanks guys - some excellent suggestions. Going to get FsNav up and running and check-out all these locations!CheersAdam
November 20, 200322 yr Hi ShaunNo, I have no idea. And don't expect to much! It's a very poor model. But it still shows us that even the guys at microsoft have a bit of humor left! :-)Check it out! I did all the flight testing there! Especially with the heavy things like the PSS Vulcan bomber you need such a runway! :-)Cheers Martin
November 20, 200322 yr Suggest also Prestwick (EGPK) where I have happily watched A340s etc flying circuits. There is some excellent freeware scenery available. Watch out for those power lines as you cross the coastline on short finals!- Pete
November 20, 200322 yr hi all , pete can you tell me what site has the freeware scenery for scotland as i have searched a few web site and am unable to find any freeware , thanks martin
November 20, 200322 yr Author Adrian - I see what you mean about the weather at Shannon! Last night viz 2 miles, 8/8 cloud cover rain but at least the wind was light..I wonder if there is any freeware scenery available for Shannon?Pete - Prestwick is one of my favourite airfields and the freeware addon scenery helps to make the whole experience all the more authentic from what I remember (haven't flown there since FS2002).If I find the URL for the freebie addon scenery will post the URL here unless someone beats me too it:-)Cheers allAdam
November 20, 200322 yr For the excellent freeware Prestwick scenery, and more, go to:http://www.visualflight.co.uk/scotflight/freeware.htm- Pete
November 20, 200322 yr You could try malaga, Spain (LEMG). Nice mountains, big runway, enough traffic to be interesting without it crippling an average system. Not sure if it has VOR or NDB but definately has ILS.Sim-Wings do a good scenery and it looks great with LAGO Terramesh. Thanks, Mark
November 20, 200322 yr Well, Last night was typical weather for Ireland, and that description sounds about right, it was pretty rough!www.ifsd.ie make excellent Irish freeware scenery, they havent gotten around to Shannon yet as the local authorities are being difficult providing access for photo's etc...The above link supplies scenery for EICK(Cork) which is about 50nm from EINN.EIDW(Dublin) is 104nm and is very very well done. I suggest you try flying around, it's great fun!JohnP 2.53 GHZ512 RAMWINXPGFORCE 4 128MB Ti4600http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewerhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg
