December 5, 200322 yr Hi, people from PMDG,The SU2 is coming and I am sure that it is going be great . But I would like to know if we can use a mcp assembled using FSBUS software ( www.fsbus.de) to control it (mcp functions).Thank you a lot for your reply,MONTAps. I do not know how o set a picture of mcp here on forum , but if anyone wants to see it I can send it via email
December 6, 200322 yr Goodluck trying to get PDMG to answer these sorts of questions. I've listed about 3 posts in relations to these matters including FSUIPC but to no avail. If you do, I'll be very keen to hear anything they've got to say about this matter.Regards,
December 6, 200322 yr There has been answers to these types of questions. But it's not on a high priority on PMDG's list. If I recall it right Lefteris once said he would be working on an SDK for the MCP and the AFDS systems.Anybody else having contradicting information. Please, be my guest! ;-)Hope it helps, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
December 6, 200322 yr Sorry to be "contradicting", it was not my attention. I have received that sort of information(SDK) and directly from PDMG. In the past I had posted questions relating directly with FSUIPC and none of them were ever replied to. As I'm sure, you wouldn't like to be ignored either. My intention is to build a 737-800 cockpit and I'm intending on using 737TNG for my project. I did mention back to PDMG that it would be nice to have a SDK that would allow someone like myself to replicate each switch and annuciator into the real thing. I'm counting on something like this because I've already started on producing my overhead panels (metal work). I hope to have some pics up soon but I've recently run out of Dzus fastners to finish the panels off.I have worked on the software side of things before and I understand what PDMG are going through. If it was my company producing software like this and someone wanted to build a real cockpit using my software, I'd be very honoured.I've heard a statement going around from PDMG, "We want to make this simulation, the most realistic ever". Why not let someone like myself and I'm sure many others take it to the edge!I've been using Flight Sim ever since the V.4 days, finally we have a program like 737TNG, thanks to PDMG, that makes our dreams reality. I'll never fly Heavys but PDMG takes us as close to the real thing.Looking forward to the SU2 release!!Yours Sincerely,
December 6, 200322 yr Hi there,I'm currently in a project of three people who are constructing a full-sized B757 simulator around PIC767. We are using FSBUS exclusively. I had some hard time as well in getting the PIC-guys to reply my queries about the V2 of PIC, but apparently it will have a SDK to make it work.I don't know what's the matter with developers. Like you said, I think it should be an honour to do a SW that is used as the core of a full flight simulator. Our sim will have every knob, dial and switch that the real thing has. It's a big challenge, but once it's ready, I'm sure many will find it interesting what SW runs in the background... I guess it's the idea that they do not believe that anyone is capable of pulling something like this off. We will use our simulator in a virtual aviation PR activities, so the SW will get a lot of publicity. I guess it's developers' loss if they don't see the importance of these kinds of matters (along with of course the more important matters of getting everything to work as published).Tero PPL(A)
December 6, 200322 yr Hello Monta,I have built a home cockpit around the NG. Have to say I've had many problems doing it, but I'm now fairly happy. I looked at FSBus in terms of the MCP, but in the end decided to go with what I knew, which is a Hagstrom unit. My set up is a mixture of push and toggle switches together with rotary decoders for functions such as speed, alt, heading etc.As you probably know, the Hagstrom produces keystrokes and so it was necessary to interface these as mouse clicks. For this purpose, I used Key2Mouse. There are some problems using this prog with the NG, but these could be largely ironed out by SU2.I cant remember if FSBus similarly transmits key strokes to the computer, but if it does, then you could use K2M in exactly the same way I do and it will work well.RegardsBud
December 6, 200322 yr It is probably a lot of extra work for a very small audience. I think that is why you do not get a lot of enthusiasm from developers. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great idea, but ultimately developers have to make a cost/benefit analysis, and "honour" might not offset development cost.Lee Hetherington (KBED)
December 6, 200322 yr I'm pretty sure that FSBUS does have a Mouse2Key function but it doesn't help when you've got other panels to consider. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that PDMG will come through for us.Brad.
December 8, 200322 yr Lee,I think you're absolutely right. I know this is the reason to the non-enthusiastic attitude, and rightly so. Business is business. However, what I do know is this. The PIC guys didn't do PIC for money, so I'm not surprised that they will include an SDK to make PICv2 fully cockpit-compatible this time. This kind of attitude (however mysterious and quiet these days) is gold in my book.I buy simulator SW because I love simming, flying, aviation... you name it. I love the feeling of being "in control", and I'm trying to enhance that experience a lot by all these "gadgets" if you will ;). Of course developers are committed to their SW but they also have to make profit. This is where the freedom of choice comes to play. I obviously myself only support developers who have their heart in it as well. PMDG talks to its customers a lot, and they obviously want to give a LOT. They are "good people" in my book. However, even they have their limitations, and they have not been very supportive when it has come to home cockpit questions. That is a minus, but I can live with that. I'm excited as hell to try out the SU2 once it's out. If PMDG will ever reconsider bringing out the full functionality for the NG in home cockpit matters, they will strike gold in many arenas. One wouldn't believe the huge market of cockpit building these days. But anyway, I support PMDG because one never knows what they will come up with in the future.Until then, I'll fly my 757 with my home cockpit and eventually the large 757 FFS, and settle for what I have with the PMDG bird.Tero PPL(A)
