Have I Done the Right thing??

i have been Browsing the Fourums this morning and have seen much disscussion on FS2004 not working properly.Yesterday i read the post saying that the 8/900 would only be a FS2004 a/c.So i went out and got it online and the postie should be bringing it soon!!!! (: i didnt origionally upgrade as the extra atc and clouds and old planes ill never fly didnt really interest me and with all the fs2002 addons seemed like a lot of hassel to me...if the 800 is as good as we are all seeing then me getting fs9 is a good investment.heres my problem, i read now that a lot of people with good pc's are having big problems with fs9 and i dont want to spend any more money on a programme that isnt as good as fs2002.i have a home built 2.4 cerleron 512MB RAM 80G HD and a gforce 3 vd card all running on win xp home.have i just wasted my money here or am i going to be an even happier flight simmer???thanks and kind regards"Lairy"Liam Reynolds

I have a 2.4 P4 and get good results.I would suggest bringing your memory up to a gigabyte though.

I agree with Tim with respect to additional memmory. But lets face it. Fs9 does give you a lot more realisme but at a price. Everything in life is a tradeoff, cant have it both ways. If you want more realisme and more functionality it's going to require more computational power, thats it! Having said that MS stated they would do no upgrades etc. in the same vain as 2002-2002Pro. version? I may be mistaken but it seems to me a good bit of optimization was done between the regular and Pro versions of past MS FS's. Will patches of some type or another be forthcomming for fs9?PMDG has done a marvalous job creating an addon with features and funtionality that makes most others primitive in comparison IMHO, requiering programming and optimizing skills extrodinair. But again as good as PMDG's skills are, they cant defie gravity, any addon of any usefullnes is going to requier more power.I'v been on this merry go round for 20 years, it never stops. However, you get a heck of a lot more for your money now, as compared to years back.I recently built a new system.Athlon 64-3400I gig Corsair twinx 92x512)MSI neo moboATI 9800Pro.After playing arround with this thing I found I should lock the frames at 45. I set the mipmap slider at 3, global texture to massive.Light renders to 5.Buildings no longer spin arround etc.No matter the weather, cloud density, traffic, big airport, small airport, or fly down 5th. Avenenue in NY city.Frames stay at 43-44 allwaysRegards

I find that flying online with so many programs open(SB,AVC,AVC TUNER,SBRELAY,SBHOST,MY VA ACARS,ALERT!!PRO...etc) brings my PC to a halt when flying into places like Heathrow Pro(Gary Summons), especially when there are loads of mp aircraft around. However, flying into and out of the OSS Gatwick, with some of the best virtual atc around, the best FS9 aircraft package and some fine FS9 graphics and weather really is unbeatable. I could never go back to FS2002, and if I did-it'd be only to fly using PIC767 ;)In short-you havent made a mistake,my system is only medium end and I still have a great flying experience!P4 2.53512 MB RAM,GF4 Ti4600 12880GB HDDJohn (Once known as Macs)http://homepage.eircom.net/~eamonnmca/images/logo_ba.JPGwww.bavirtual.co.uk Senior Captain Simflight.com Staff Reviewer

I have a Athlon 1800, and fs2004 works better than FS2002 on windows 2000. When I tried it with XP, it was very slow, especially with Add-ons such as the 737/800....If you experience low frame rates, try windows 2000 and the latest drivers for your graphic adapter. In my opinion, the best feature of fs2004 for people who look for realism (you do, if you use the 737/800....) is the weather. You will never look back.Good luckOlivier Noir
