Engine Out Proc missbehaviour

Featured Replies

Dear PMDGA colleague pointed me to this and after a textflight i managed to figure out a slight missbehaviour in the "ENG OUT PROC"Here is the situation:You takeoff and while in FMC CLB Mode an engine fails. For this example the right engine failed.According to "Non-Normals" i have no to put FMC in "Non-Normal" ENG OUT Mode. By clicking on the LSK beside ENG OUThttp://people.freenet.de/crackware/FMC.gifWhy this ? Well the FMC calculates VNAV based on two engine operations. MAX/OPT AltitudesBy enabling engine out, you will be asked which engine failed. Click on "R ENG OUT"Here is where the FMC should now recalculate the values- MAX Alt- TGT SPD- N1 This is what happens instead- N1 value is not displayed. The real FMC does show N1%- ENG OUT CLB SPD is calculated properly- ALT MAX is calculated properlySo far so good, however now VNAV is disconnected, wrong behaviour. Not according to Boeing.V/S is set to ZERO. CLB Mode is aborted. Not according to Boeing. The climb mode is kept active but with alternate "ENG OUT CLB" values. All AP modes are shut off while in ENG OUT mode. You can get back by clicking on the CLB button of the FMC. This is not correct. You can resume AP modes by restarting failed engine. ;)Are the "ENG OUT" Procedures supposed to be working or is it just for demonstation purposes?CheersMartin

All AP modes are shut off while in ENG OUT mode. Coughs** Martin this is NOT TRUE for the NG series! The EO pages are simply ref pages and not not do anything including any ihibits! Older FMC UXXX might have done this but NOT in the NG! The EO pages are nothing but INFORMATION and one returns to normal by re-selection of the CRZ and CLB buttons[h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Randy, i am not 100% convinced. Maybe you are correct that the NG doesn't do it anymore, however my references from the 737-800 (Dated Nov. 1998) certainly does continue the AP modes. I will ask my collegue, he works at SRTechnics. He might know, even if only working on Airbus ;)Cheers

Gents,To the best of my real world knowledge the ENG OUT pages provide information only. The data displayed is for reference by the crew and has no bearing on FMC/AP/FD modes.Brad Marsh

negative guys, just got a reply from a german pilotAP modes remain active on the 737-800In brief what he says. the VNAV AP mode is changed to "CLB ENG OUT PROC" mode. All other stuff is a repetition of what i already said. It recalculates values and adjusts CLB/CRZ/DES modes, whichever you are in. AP should now operate within the new limitations. Is this airline dependant? PDMG's 737 is Southwest based, AFAIK.CheersMartinFor those that want to traduce it:hallo, ein "engine out modus" berechnet, wenn vorhanden und aktiviert, die aktuell neuen Performancedaten f

Ok i got you some addtionalsIn fact, the VNAV mode cannot be engaged in certain conditions. One, and probably the most important - you are over the MAX ALTCheersMartin

The ONLY thing some aircraft DO is to load EO procedures like EO STARS etc but this has no bearing on ANY modes. We have more than a COUPLE of real world NG pilots on the team and not one of them disagreed with me lol! I am correct sir the EO pages are like pulling out a manual nothing more and CERTAINLY do not INHIBIT anything OR change a **mode**, this is for the pilots to follow when needed. Think about this logically, if one is to simply REVIEW an EO page but his engines are in fact operating are you telling me that it will change the operating modes anyway? Trust the crvm man Hollywood ;-) [h4]Best Wishes,Randy J. Randy, i believe you. I am not trying to questioning what you are saying. My information comes directly from an Air Berlin captain. This information simply is different from what you are saying. Maybe both are right. We certainly won't find the clue in here. I don't have the problem. My PMDG never has engine failures :DCheersMartin
