Problem with writing SID

Featured Replies

Im not sure if this is the right forum for this question but since its PMDG 737NG ill put it here. Here it goes. I have a problem writing a particular SID (LJLJ RWY 13 BERTA1D to be exact). Here is the link to this chart: http://slovenia.avsim.net/vacc/novi_web/charts/LJLJ_4-1.pdf Here is how i wrote this SID: SID BERT1D RNW 13 NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 2200 NAVAID D250I NAVAID OVERFLY D250O DIRECT NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 9000 NAVAID D330K AT OR ABOVE 10000 NAVAID D343L NAVAID BERTA I helped myself with FSBUILD. And this is how it looks in ND & FMC: http://freeweb.siol.net/simoh/berta1d.jpg (notice the yellow line that i drawn, thats the line flown by AP/FMC). OK and now to my problem. As you can see the SID looks like it should on the ND (MAGENTA line). The same as on the SID chart. Problem is that this is NOT the line flown by FMC/AP. The line flow by FMC/AP is YELLOW line drawn by me. Line flown is 25 degrees to MG NAVAID. And you can also see that on the FMC. There is 25 degrees beside MG. Why does that happen? I specificaly wrote in SID that is should go DIRECT to NAVAID MG after D250O. And thats exactly how it is shown on ND. But still FMC simply ignores this DIRECT and goes 25 degrees to MG. I just dont get it. Can you help me please? How should i write this SID so that it will be shown !AND! flown by FMC/AP exactly as on the CHART! Tnx for your help!! Best regards,Simon

Hi Simon,What happens if you delete the AT OR ABOVE 9000 for the MG waypoint and then try it? It looks like the FMC doesn't recognize your DIRECT command after D250O.Just an idea....

Hi!I tryed as you suggested and removed the altitude restriction at MG NAVAID but the problem is still there.http://freeweb.siol.net/simoh/fmc.jpgFMC still follows this damn TRK 25 to MG instead DIRECT.Thanks for input anyway! Ive been banging my head against the wall for the last 5 hours to no avail. It seems to me FMC simply ignores DIRECT. Im not sure but could this be a FMC bug?! Or im simply stupid and cant write the damn SID right.Regards,Simon

OK now i removed the DIRECT and now the ND shows the path flown by FMC too. So it really does seem like FMC is ignoring DIRECT command.ND is obeying DIRECT, FMC is ignoring it.http://freeweb.siol.net/simoh/nodirect.jpgBest regards,Simon

Simon,That's right, the FMC is not taking direct into consideration. We're working on turn left / right direct and are hoping to include it in next update.anthonyAnthony MertonPrecision Manuals Developmenthttp://www.precisionmanuals.com

Hi SimonYou wrote "that is should go DIRECT to NAVAID MG after D250O", and that's exactly what's the FMC is trying to do. It will force the plane back on to the 25 deg radial. But if you look at the charts it tells "turn right to MG Lctr 045 deg bearing". In some way you have to tell the FMC to get on to that 45 radial. There are a couple of options:1) Try this one: SID BERT1D RNW 13 NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 2200 NAVAID D250I NAVAID OVERFLY D250O KEEP TRK INTERCEPT RADIAL 45 TO NAVAID MG DIRECT NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 9000 NAVAID D330K AT OR ABOVE 10000 NAVAID D343L NAVAID BERTALooks like this and id actually flyable:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82079.jpg2) You can insert a fix on the 45 radial like "FIX MG45 COLOCATED MG 226 10". Then you will get this: SID BERT1D RNW 13 NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 2200 NAVAID D250I NAVAID OVERFLY D250O FIX MG45 NAVAID MG AT OR ABOVE 9000 NAVAID D330K AT OR ABOVE 10000 NAVAID D343L NAVAID BERTA.And here is the result:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/82080.jpgBoth of these will force the plane on to radial 45 as per charts. But whatch your speed in these turns, around 220 seems to be ok.

PerI always thought DIRECT would not try to get back to the line of sight between two fixes after a fly-over pass.I would expect Simon's behaviour if I didn't include the DIRECT syntax after D250O.Have I bee wrong all this time? :-eek

Thats great news Anthony! Looking forward to the update whenever it comes.Regards,Simon

Mats,Thats what i think also. It should NOT go and intercept 25 radial to MG (line of sight between D250O and MG) but simply fly DIRECT to MG. Just like the ND shows it when DIRECT is used. But as i just found out by email (thankyou Terry) this is the exact problem developers were facing and simply ren out of time. But i sure hope its fixed in some future update coz DIRECT cdommand is an important one.Best regards,Simon

Per,You wont belive it but in those 5 hours of head banging against the wall i tryed this too :) Yes that is an option. Intercepting RADIAL 45 TO MG or inserting a FIX and so on. BUT thats not the way its on the charts. If you look closely 45 degrees bearing is intercept TRK from MG to RADIAL 343 DOL.And also you have to start the right turn right after D250O overfly and go to MG. If i would to intercept RADIAL 45 to MG i would overfly D250O by far toooo much. The closest thing to the charts would be inserting a FIX MG45 as you did yes. But thats only a workaround to the underlying problem of FMC not flying DIRECT as it should :) To me DIRECT means flying from present position DIRECTLY to the next waypoint. Its well explaind in Writing SID/STARs manual :)Thankyou for trying it all out and helping me ofcorz!!!Regards,

Mats, you have much greater knowlegde on this than I have, but based on my experience the DIRECT command will only give a better view of the magenta line on the ND, not in flying though. If I don't remember wrong, there was a post about this a long time ago, but I can't find it. Also in Terry's tutorial v2 it says: "Please take note that the keyword
