Flying a holding over Navaids

Featured Replies

Hi,It works fine programming a hoding in the FMC. But the aircraft fly only 1 holding. How can i force it to fly a couple of holdings e.g over a VOR?Or do I something wrong, because I am in LMAV and VNAV Mode during the holding.

Nameless-the upcoming Service Release 1 has addressed holds. You will find it works... erm... somewhat better...

Im pretty sure I acheived more than once round the hold, I might be wrong though, the one I was testing was a "descend in hold" procedure at EGKK, so I had 2 hold stacked and was testing if it would descend in the hold. It won't without a manual decent to the second hold, but it stayed in the hold.Having said that, I have seen it completely ignore holds and fly straight through.

Paul,For a descent in HOLD you're not supposed to need two holding patterns! ;-) You have an altitude entry on the HLD page. Use that. Or if not when in the HOLD use the MCP altitude window to change the hold altitude. This said it is not possible for the NG to do an automated VNAV descent in hold as you already discovered. Too many unknown variables I would guess. Cheers,

But how can I fly more than one holding over a VOR (the aircraft should fly same altidtude, so no descending!) ?

Mr nameless (Please sign your posts with your real name as per the forum rules please!)I'm not sure I am following you quite here. Are you asking how you can fly more than one holding pattern over a VOR (or any fix for that matter)? Or are you asking how you fly more circuits on the one holding pattern you're currently in?If the former, I have to ask you why you would do that. You only have one plane and it's only capable of flying one holding pattern (as of yet. Boeing has a scizophrenic a/c in the pipeline. :-))If the latter. The plane will fly the holding pattern until the fuel runs out or you exit the hold using the FMC. This manouver includes manual labour however. ;-)Hope it helps,
