July 17, 200421 yr Hello,When ever I have a fuel imbalance and I open the cross feed valve should the fuel level in the lower tank not increases? At the moment this doesn't happen, maybe you could fix this for the 747?Also, when on the ground and everything is off the standby artificial horizon's gyro flag appears but the horizon is level. Will this also be looked at for the 747?Cheers,Paul
July 17, 200421 yr Hi Paul,First question - Simple answer, the 737 doesn't have cross tank transfer ability in real life (in the air that is, it is possible on the ground for fueling/de-fueling). To fix a fuel imbalance you need to open the cross feed valve and the switch off the fuel pumps in the tank with the lower fuel level until the levels are even again then you switch on the pumps again and close the cross feed.Info from the NG's operating manuals Chapter 7 page 80 (says pretty much exactly what I just said though). As for the second question - That's one for PMDG :)Hope it helpsDavid
July 17, 200421 yr Commercial Member PaulThe procedure for balancing fuel would be as follows. Assuming that you have the aircraft set up properly and have used all your center tank fuel and now have a wing imbalance. Open the Crossfeed Valve, then select Both pumps on the Low Tank to "OFF". This will allow the opposite tank to send fuel to both engines. When the fuel tanks are balanced, turn On the boost pumps and Close the Crossfeed. We are looking at a different Standby Instrument system possibly for the 747-400 so stay tuned.
