insufficient fuel

Featured Replies

Hi !I got a problem with this insufficient fuel warning in FMC.This warning comes up during flight very often and the ringing is killing my nerv. I calculated the fuel correctly and i always got about 3 or 4 x1000 KG's left on landing. The warning gets off about when i reach the last few waypoints.Any way to fix that ?Marcello

Ignore it. It's dumb. It ####### you off, I know. It's VERY annoying, when you are in descent and it's still saying it as you are waiting for the FMC to request drag and you keep having to clear the error of "Insufficent fuel"I have each and every time told the FMC, that if I land when less than my planned landing fuel of at least 5,000lbs I would buy it a pint. I have yet had to attempt buying the FMC a drink. In fact once, when I myself was drinking the whole flight and landing in Belfast after 7 cans of beer, I decided to go joyriding around doing insane visual approaches... you know the sort! make a circle with the runway on one side and come whoring round with the brakes out and only level the wings from a 60 bank when the wing tip is about to clip the grass and drop it onto the runway.I did this 6 times, and then did a loop, barrel roll and stall turn over the field before, finally running out of fuel and landing (softly) 10 meters short of the runway (was either that or stall it). I must have been at 100% N1 for at least 20 minutes after I first landed.I have seen it, mid cruise say I would have 0 fuel left at destination and then 10 minutes later, without the wind changing, saying I would have 8,000lbs left on top of reserves.So... ignore the insufficent fuel warning, well.... when it first comes on, note the wind, present fuel, DTG and do a recalculation to be sure 9 times out of 10, it's wrong.

Hi !Thanks for your information!I hope that will be solved in the upcoming Update.I should be possible to make it work correctly, specially in the 747-400it is very important to have the right fuel information due to a long trip.Marcello

It's not an error but most likely like it says. It means you will have less than 2000 lbs of fuel left for landing. My bet would be to follow the FMC's opt/max altitude information. Remember, you have to use the center take first, then the wing takes. If your center take is below 5000lbs before takeoff, wing tanks must be used, then switch to center while climbing. I don't know what kind of flights you fly, but try adding about 2000lbs more pounts to the center tank.Nick B.Continental Airlines 737NG Pilothttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg--AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz (Equal to 2.8 ghz)400W Power supply3x 80 mm Case FansSoyo VIA KT600 Dragon PlusnVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 mb2 x 512 PC400100 GB Western DigitalMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2

If you're flying at 2x or higher you'll get the warning. I get this at 2x or higher, but when you go back to 1x then there's enough fuel.

Before we make comments like "I hope this gets fixed ....." one should know if indeed the real FMC does this exact thing???? Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J. Hi !does the real one calculate it correctly? Nick, are you a real Pilot for Continental?ThanksMarcello

I never had this warning in the flight. And sometimes landing with really low fuel, like 2000-1000lbs. Insufficient fuel comes up here only when I set too low fuel on start, when entering my data into FMC.Question is, how do you calculate fuel? Tool? Or just according to the FMC?

Hi !I calculate it by the Fuel Planner in the PMDG Download Section.I use 4xSimrate's, but i don't now if it has something to do with.Marcello

This happens to me maybe once every 10 flights or so. Scared the hell out of me the first time, but about 10 minutes later, it started to steadily rise, and I ended up landing with about 7500lbs which is normal for my flights. So, as said before, just ignore it. Enjoy your flight.

I think if your fuel consumption is too high then it will display that message. For an example, when I fly an 800 nm trip, I use about 45% fuel, even though this leaves room for about 3000 or 4000lbs of reserve fuel left. You must remember that almost 1/4 of your fuel is consumed during takeoff and climb.Nick B.Continental Airlines 737NG Pilothttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg--AMD Athlon XP 3200+ @ 2.2 Ghz (Equal to 2.8 ghz)400W Power supply3x 80 mm Case FansSoyo VIA KT600 Dragon PlusnVidia GeForce FX 5200 128 mb2 x 512 PC400100 GB Western DigitalMicrosoft Sidewinder Precision 2

Your pre-flight preparations have a great deal to do with it. You must enter your winds in to the FMC to properly calculate the fuel used for the trip. You must also program your forecast winds otherwise you may get the overspeed and unacheivable messages. Do a search of the forum and it is all explained. I used to get the same thing but I very rarely get it now.
