July 23, 200421 yr I might be the only one with this "issue" but I get RAs quite a bit during my descents telling me to basically hold my altitude. If this is prolonged, it can be quite a hassle getting back onto the VNAV des path. I had to do 2 360 degree turns at various points to get back on the track. Does anyone else have a technique that doesn't allow overspeeds or excessive descent rates?
July 23, 200421 yr If you only needed to maintain your current altitude, why would you need to take action? A RA requires you to take action of some sort, a TA requires you to locate if possible the other aircraft. If you are in a climb or descent you can get the message Randy J Smith
July 23, 200421 yr Out in the real world you will not do to many 360 degree turns unless your in a holding pattern, on top of the destination airport already or sight seeing. Your Airline and PAX will want you to keep heading for your destination.A TCAS RA should resolve fast. You should be able to get back on the VNAV PATH with SPEED BRAKE up to a point. Of course, I know, there's a point where it becomes impossible to get back on the VNAV PATH.If it looks like your not going to make a Altitude Restriction on the VNAV PATH then advise ATC and they will problably tell you to disregard the altitude restriction and/or issuse you Radar Vectors to get you out of the way of any conflicting traffic ahead.Floyd John Floyd
July 24, 200421 yr Randy, I assume he's getting a don't-descend RA while descending, basically telling him to level off.Is this with AI ATC?Lee Hetherington, PP-ASEL (KBED)
