Persistent damage?

Featured Replies

Hi,The thing I'm missing most in MS FlightSim is that there is no real 'continuous' world you're flying in. Every time you get an aircraft it's brand new again. Yes, I know about the failure options, but these are 'training options' and not caused by wear & tear. For FS2002 LagoSim had a piece of software that kept track of the state of the aircraft you flew. Had a hard landing? The landing gear of that aircraft had some damage. Too many hard landings? The gear would fail at a certain point. Same goes for engines: Always flying at full throttle would cause your engines to wear out soon. Pull too many Gs and the airframe would become damaged. Etc. etc. etc.I wondered if a similar option would be possible in the 744 - so it would keep track of your flying (and abuse) - really giving more realistic failures depending on your flying style. Of course with an option to 'repair' certain damage. Or a periodic overhaul at certain times (during which we would have to revert to flying the 737NG :D )Best regards,Gert Wijbrans

I work for a company that supplies equipment for the Simulators that are used to train Pilots to fly Commercial Aircraft like 777,767, 737, etc. etc..... These Sims do not have programming that tracks aircraft damage, flight attendants walking around, views out the window, restrooms that make flushing sounds, ... etc.. etc. and they cost upwards of $20,000,000 each. I paid about $50 for FS9. I think that I got way more than my money's worth....

In this case I'm hardly talking 'new' functionality. All things are already tracked in MSFS - the amount of Gs you pull, the vertical speed during landing etc. It's just that there's no database that keeps track of it (and connects it to the - already existing - failures in MSFS).BTW, IIRC FSDesigns Pilatus Porter also offers this 'persistent damage' option. Yes, I also think I've got my money's worth (although I paid one-and-a-half time more than you due to import regulations). That doesn't mean I can't make suggestions that will IMHO make the sim better. As FMDG can't rewrite FlightSim I'm only asking if it's possible to add this functionality to their product. I'll buy the 744 no matter what, but I'm also making suggestions of what I - and hopefully others - would like to see.The simulators you talk about are for pilots to train certain situations. Keeping track of damage there isn't interesting as every new situation is different. However, IMHO it would enhance FlightSim because FS is (also) meant for people that DON'T have a real career in aviation (but secretly dream of having one).Regarding your remark about the flight attendants etc, I'm sure that as soon as hardware can handle it, we will see 'real' passengers in the cabin depending on the payload we've boarded. Also something you will never see in the simulators you talk about. Same goes for add-ons like Emma Field or Orcas Island.

I think what would be nice is if it could be incorporated in to the load manager program so that as you are setting your load you will be able to review the MEL's and you will have to fly with certain restrictions. Even if there is a way to have a random occurence of these things that can be set up prior to the flight. I am not talking about major things but more like the everyday things that are turned over from day to day in real life.

It is here at the top: http://www.eaglesoftdg.com/it's a great plane. it even has a female mechanic that appears when you put the parking brake on and shut it down. she hums to herself and drops tools and moves around. it's really detailed. when you put the gear down or extend the flaps (can't remember which) the passenger lady changes her position. she sits like she's ready to land with her seatbelt on and stuff.here's a screenshot of it while sitting parked:>One payware executive bizjet(can
