Setting V Speeds Manually

Featured Replies

Hi Experts.(PMDG 737 -600-700-800-900)Tim Metzingers excellent tutorial page 23:---...to set the V Speeds manually, using the control just abovethe engine display on the main panel. Klicking on the outsidering of the knobs will move the selector...right clicking onthe center knob will increase the speed, and left clickingwill decrease it. Set V1 and VR...---Done so, V1/VR are displayed in EADI however NO CALLOUTSDURING T/O.Is this correct or is a flaw in my setup?G

You will only get callouts when you use the FMC to set the V-speeds. When you do them manually the FMC doesn't know about them and doens't know when to say what.

FYI: If I remember correctly from the beta, the real NG FMC does not automatically calculate the V speeds. As part of the normal "Flight Deck Preparation" procedures, the pilot is required to manually enter the V speeds into the FMC "TAKEOFF REF" page.I believe the PMDG FMC function of automatically calculating the V speeds is an Anthony (PMDG developer) special "Magical Fairy Dust" option exclusive to PMDG. ;-)Helps us non R/W NG drivers get the airplane setup up a little easier without having all of those messy hard to read tables and charts available! :-)

Not 100% sure, but I think RW drivers get Vspeeds (as well as other things) from ACARS and confirm via charts.

Interesting findings !!I managed to get callouts of manually setV Speeds by the following procedure1) complete FMC ACT PERF INIT page1 and EXEC2) in FMC TAKEOFF REF page1 manually insert V1, VR, V2 and insert flaps.(intentionally I selected V1/VR/V2 Speeds NOT corresponding to the aircraft weight in ACT PERF INIT)3) Thereafter using the front panel SPD REF switch i could seemy V1/VR Important: SPD REF switch MUST NOT be placed back to AUTO.4) Execute takeoff with manual throttle. The self selected V1/VR/V2 are called out and appear properly in EADIPerhaps someone confirms these findings and translates them in perfect English.Regards G

As I said you will only get callouts when you use the FMC to set the V-speeds. Which you did in your last example... So... nothing strange here!It doesn't matter if you put them manually in the FMC or automatically by right clicking. Only when you set the V-speeds WITHOUT using the FMC then you will NOT hear callouts.

Well that is half correct ;-), there ARE some NGs that have an option that automatically displays V-SPDS, I believe Ryan Air is one of them...Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J.
