Autoland problem

Featured Replies

Just flew two test flights. I normally fly with two computers using a WideFS LAN, but for the test I just used my main server and did not run Active Sky off the client.I did use all of my GoFlight hardware and an Aerosoft Australia MCP.First I did a flight without programming the FMC -- simply took off on 27R out of KATL for 30 miles turned around and headed back to the airport at 5000 feet. FD and CMD on -- flying using the MCP to set heading, alt, and speed. Tuned both NAVs to 108.9 for ILS Rwy 9R. Armed APP. Once locked on the ILS the APP light did go out. Single Channel mode came on but once dual channel approach locked in, the vertical and horizontal ILS indicators flashed yellow briefly and the SINGE CH indicator when out. CMD came on instead. Airplane stayed locked on the ILS. FLARE armed. Did a perfect right down the center autoland. A thing of great beauty!Repeated the flight -- this time with the FMC programmed for departure from KATL 9L with a loop around to the west to return in on 9R. Once the AFDS took over on climb out, it was a fully automatic flight most of the way. As the plane turned in towards the airport, I again tuned both NAVs to the ILS frequency and the events repeated themselves perfectly as in the previous flight.Don't know what to say except for now everything worked as expected. Will have to try to full setup with Active Sky running across the WideFS LAN next and see how that goes, but at least on these two tries, the system did behave as it should.Guess I did read the manual after all, Randy, since I used the exact same procedures as on all the previous flights that went wrong. Once peculiarity -- on the flights that went wrong, the system kept spontaneously coming out of NUM LOCK. That did not happen on either of these two flights. Suggests indeed that there was some "noise" in the system coming from somewhere that I did not have on either of these two runs.Next will be a test with the CPFlight MCP, then the full LAN.RG

mr RG.... ?Got me thinking here. Do you have wake turbulence activated in AS2004? And if so have you landed behind other heavy traffic? Turbulence or windshifts do reset the A/P.Hope it helps,

Interesting thought. The answer is yes -- and I do fly with AI Traffic and Active Sky 2004 active so perhaps this is part of the problem. In my test runs, I have not used them. I will keep building back the pieces to see what is causing the problem. Something is resetting my keyboard out of NUMLOCK so I think that may be what is setting off the AP.RG
