Autothrottle won't disengage

Featured Replies

I've seen some similar posts on this problem, but I haven't seen an answer that fixes my issue..I just began using the PMDG, and FMC, so I am very green. I think I have everything set up correctly, however when I try to disengage auto throttle on apr, it doesn't disengage. I like to cut off autopilot on 10 mile final, however I couldn't gain manual control of the throttle. I tried disengaging autopilot, FD, etc., but as I slowed the a/c with flaps and speed brake, the throttles just kept trying to compensate. Even after I got on the ground (a tricky proceedure of cutting the fuel on short final and gliding in), when I restarted the engines, they were at max. No control. Any suggestions??

Sorry,Never experienced this problem myself and never heard of anyone, except you, having this problem...Does this happen every time? Maybe a screenshot or two of the main panel and the overhead when this is happening could shed some more light on this?Cheers,

Bill,Do you mean that by disconnecting the AP (or resetting the FD) you do not automatically disconnect the autothrottle too ? If that is the case what you see in the sim is what happens in the real world. AP and AT are two different systems with different/independent ON/OFF switches.Best,Vangelis====================================== E. M. No, actually I disengaged the autothrottle first, that didn't disengage like I thought it should, so I disengaged autopilot as well with no help.I was able to take a short flight this morning, and it didn't happen. It might be the sequence that I used on the original flight that was the problem. I may have had VNAV selected when I disengaged the autothrottle. Could it have gotten stuck in FMC speed control mode possibly? If so, is there a way to release it? Even on the ground, with the engines off, I turned off all battery cutoff switches, etc. to make sure there was no power applied, and when I started the engines, got the same response. It immediately tried to go to FMC controlled thrust. I re-started flight sim, and the problem remained. I was forced to switch planes to a "non FMC" shareware model, disengage the autothrottle, and that finally cleared it. I went back to the PMDG model, and the problem was gone.Any thoughts?

Was there ever a solution posted for this question? I have the same problem which makes my 737NG unuseable. Autothrottle will stay stuck even after turning off autothrottle, disengaging the A/P. When I do the go around and just above the RWY, the throttles become un-stuck.Help,Chris

No because it seems to be a very rare issue and this is the first time I have heard of it. Better to tell us all of your details, if you have special controls programed etc. Screenshots help too! Sorry for the lack of detail Randy. It was rather late yesterday night.I had this happen a couple of times. Established in the ILS (autoland mode). I decide to go to manual landing mode so I pull on the A/P disengage and turn off the A/T switch. The yoke throttle will not control the 737NG throttles. I am relativelly green in flying the NG but I did a sizeable amount of reading on the NG. Still, it could be me.I will pay more attention to my settings next time and do a screen capture to get the image. I'm also getting a new computer this week since mine is quite old so I'll test it with the new machine and report back if I continue having the same issue. Thanks,Chris

I did a couple of test flights last night and was able to successfully disengage the A/T. Here was my sequence:Vnav/Lnav selected for the climb/cruise/descent. Just before reaching my transition waypoint on the arrival proceedure, I change VNAV to autopilot speed control, and adjust my speed to that required by my arrival proceedure. I then select A/P Headding control (which deselects LNAV). From there I manually change my altitude/speed/headding by changing the values in the A/P. When I become established on my ILS localizer (manually, not in APR mode), I first de-select A/P speed mode, then switch off the A/T switch, and I am able to control the engine speed. When the problem occurred previously, it was similar to the above post, in that I had "apr" mode selected in autopilot, allowed the auto-establish on the apr, then disengaged autopilot, then disengaged A/T. I haven't tried to duplicate this just yet, but I believe the problem to somehow be related to auto apr mode.BTW, I am flying the 737/800 2D pannel mode. I hope to try to re-consrtuct the problem again this evening and see if I can pin-point a little better.
