July 10, 200223 yr The current thread about the NCE glideslope offset below prompted me to pull out the charts for Nice airport. It's one of my favorite airports in real life, so I've tried fly there several times in MSFS and of course the first thing I noticed was that the ILS for runway 5R is offset to the right, over the water. It seems to be a touchy subject, every time it comes up the person who mentions it always gets flamed and told to look at the chart, that that's how it is in real life. I don't remember it being like that when I've landed in NCE myself in RL, so I looked at the charts and there's nothing there about an offset either. The ILS for both runways are perfectly aligned with the runway, no offset like in MSFS. The offset in MSFS makes no sense, it's off to the right over the water, and given that NCE is surrounded by water on three sides, there's no houses or residents under the ILS to runways 5L/R who would complain about the noise. So why the offset in MSFS?
July 10, 200223 yr I don't know about the glideslope-but here is the chart and it is without a doubt offset. There is even a note which states "localizer offset 1.9 degrees.Final approach course intercepts runway centerline at threshold". If you notice the arrow depicting the aircraft's path on the bottom right it shows to the right of the runway. Here is the plate:http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.gif Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
July 10, 200223 yr Moderator ahhh Geoff, you beat me to it. I was just going to post the same thing ;-) I thought I had an old chart but mine is also offset 1.9 deg.Cheers,Petehttp://home.neo.rr.com/zaehringer/pipersignature.jpgPIII600,512MB,Win98SE,DirectX8.1,Geforce32DDR(Det.22.80),SBlive(4.06.703) I9-13900K, RTX 4090, DR5-6000MHZ, CORSAIR ICUE H150I ELITE, ASUS PRIME Z790-P, THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOWER GF3 1350W, WIN 11
July 10, 200223 yr The ones I'm looking at are the Jeppesen SimCharts and the Scandinavian Airlines charts. I can't find anything about it on the SimCharts, and one of the SAS charts says "LLZ offset by 1.53 degrees" at the very bottom of the page.So anyway, does anyone know the reason for it being offset? Noise abatement for the poor folks in the multi-million dollar yachts below???
July 10, 200223 yr Here are the Jeppesen charts for both runways, you'll see there is an offset mentioned on the Jepp charts. Don't know why you don't see them...Oh and the noise abatement procedures come from the residents. They buy a house close to an airport (they must be seen in Nice of course... ;)) and then complain about it. Go figure.http://www.geocities.com/eric_2203/5l.htmlhttp://www.geocities.com/eric_2203/5r.html__________________________________________________________EricList of all airlines, aircraft manufacturers and aircraft types recognised by ATC:http://www.geocities.com/eric_2203/orhttp://ftp.avsim.com/library/esearch.php?D...atID=fs2002misc
July 10, 200223 yr Those must be some nice floating houses those noise-sensitive residents have. Nothing but water at the end of both runways. And they must be disappearing houses too...never saw them when I was there... ;)
July 10, 200223 yr No no, you don't get it... The approaches were over land. A 2 degree offset makes a lot of difference.__________________________________________________________EricList of all airlines, aircraft manufacturers and aircraft types recognised by ATC:http://www.geocities.com/eric_2203/orhttp://ftp.avsim.com/library/esearch.php?D...atID=fs2002misc
