November 5, 200421 yr Driving past the airport I spotted a Luxair NG737 with its tall winglets. These are much taller than the Airbus A320 series wingtip "fences" and I was wondering if anyone on here knew how much fuel they saved as compared to a NG737 without them? They probably weaken the wingtip vortices a lot too huh?:)http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2004/p.../q1/040223g.jpg
November 5, 200421 yr Whoa..cool site! And it shows how the winglets work too! Thanks JF737WN :)Are the effects of winglets simulated in the PMDG add-on?
November 5, 200421 yr The 8 foot tall Blended Winglets save about 3% to 5% fuel. They do this by reducing wing tip votices drag.Floyd John Floyd
November 5, 200421 yr Yes Nevin,You should be able to see the effects of the winglets. Hope it helps, Mats JohanssonPMDG Flight Test Dept | Asus Z270-A | Intel i5-7600K @ 4.8 GHz OC/H2O | nVidia Geforce GTX 1070 8GB OC/O2|
November 6, 200421 yr Does anyone know how the PMDG 700's stack up, ie. does the PMDG 700 with winglets use less fuel & have any better climb rate than its "wing clipped" brother, all other things being equal? I haven't had enought time to compare the two yet.

I haven't had enought time to compare the two yet.Go to the website JF737WN mentioned, its a shrine to the 737, tells u everything..specially your winglet-performance questions :)
November 6, 200421 yr I remember seeing a show about that. They said that from the start the 777 was designed to have an already effecient wing, there would be no point in adding winglets.
November 6, 200421 yr Ok, maybe I should be more specific. Nevin, I am asking about the 737 that we fly on computers not the real 737's. In an earlier post in this thread someone said that the winglets were modeled, that is nice to know, but I want to know if anyone has actually taken the time to fly their computer 737's in FS and see the difference and if so tell us about it?Dave
November 6, 200421 yr <<>>>Ohh okay! Thats an interesting question. Many people on here fly using the FMC which tracks fuel burn so Im sure they will come up with a comparision winglet vs. non-winglet!:)
