GENERAL NAV/DATA SIDS QUESTION

Featured Replies

I was setting up a flight out of KORD and noticed that there were no SIDS departures available. So I thought I might not have the complete nav/data base, so I went to navdata.at and downloaded navdata 0411 and checked out the SIDS/STAR download. The SID/STAR download did not have KORD and for that matter only had about five US updates. Does KORD not have any sids, am I doing something wrong? Surely KORD would have sids. Can somebody please help me.Rich

Ok, I just went to my SID/STARS folder and found KORD, but it didn't list anything for SIDS procedures. Is this correct, a big airport like Chicago doesn't have any SIDS, can somebody tell me why, or is my folder corrupted somehow.thanks,Rich

Hi Rich. To get you on a firmer grounding about SIDs/STARs/IAPs please read the below message that provides some background about updating terminal procedures (SIDs/STARs/IAPs) for the PMDG 737NG.http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=searchNow on the part about KORD. You are correct there are no SIDs for KORD in the terminal procedures I supply. This is because the DAFIF does not list any. When you find this sort of situation your recourse is to either download someone else's SID(s), hopefully at navdata.at or, write the SID(s) yourself.RegardsTerry

Rich,FYI: There is a published Departure Procedure for KORD called the O'Hare One Departure. Should be on any of the free chart sites. When filing a flight plan out of O'Hare, in my experience, all flights are typically required to use it. Depending on the weather (active r/w's) and your departure direction, will dictate what DP fix should be used.EX: ORD1.BDF - Cleared the O'Hare One departure Bradford transition...

Hi,ORD is not the only field in the US which has only one SID which is based on radar vectors after departure. Most of the big airports in the US have these kind of SID's. After take-off you'll usually get cleared direct to the first waypoint of your flightplan.

O'Hare's TRACON prefers to do all departures on a vector basis, not following a "pilot NAV" procedure. So yes, the ORD1 is the only DP availiable - I've heard the real clearances many times, and it usually goes something like "United 1773 cleared to Detroit, O'Hare One Departure vectors to PETTY, climb and maintain 4000, expect FL230 10 minutes after departure, Squawk XXXX"A couple other airports where they do a lot of this are the JFK and IAD.
