December 28, 200421 yr Try drinking milk before eating solids ;-) You must get the *basics* down first, a complete understanding of how the AFDS works then shoot something with the FMC. Set an altitude into the Mode Control Panel's altitude window. Set V2 on the MCP's SPD Window. Turn on the Flight Director and Auto Throttle. Advance throttles to about 40% N1 and then push the TOGA button located on the LEFT SCREW of the MCP. Do not turn on the A/P until you have retracted your flaps. Select Command A (this will set LVL as the default pitch mode in TOGA)and push the HDG SEL button on the MCP. Set speed to 250 knots. This will track your heading (Should be set to the runway heading on the MCP) and the aircraft will level off at the altitude you put on the MCP. Then try Descents by setting a lower altitude on the MCP and pushing LVL CH. You can then try V/S (Vertical Speed). Best Wishes,[h4]Randy J.
