747-400 Autoland crash

Recommended Posts

Guest ooprl

Hi all,Just tried the 747-400 today for the first time. I tried 2 times an autoland on runway 16R in LIRF (Roma). Everithing seems correct : weight, "land 3" mentionned, flaps 25, correct speed. The main gear gently touches the runway and a few seconds later the front wheels do the same. One second after I have a "crash" message. What do I make wrong ? (I didn't try another airport for the moment nor I tried to make a self land). Is this anything related to the runway cat (16R is CAT II) ?Many thanks for your help.

Hello Marcel,Landing weight was 263000 Kgs... I think the limit is 286 no ?Just try on another airport (LFPG) right now and the same problem. This time I video record the flight : On the video I heard a message "too low flaps" just before the main gear touches down. And it seems the front gear dive into the ground, causing the crash. But what to do as it is an autoland procedure ? The flaps settings was set according to the FMC (25/151kts).I'm new with this 747-400 but already made hundreds of autolands with 2 other add-ons (737 & 767) without any problems. I'm a little bit disappointed not to be able to go to the gate at arrival !!! Many thanks for your further helpJos D.

I have not done a lot with the PMDG 744 yet but I have been doing successful autolands with it everywhere. However, some runways in FS2004 seem to have "holes" or be prone to crashing the a/c even after a perfect landing for reasons I still do not understand. Try another airport and/or runway for this procedure and report back.Jonathan
