white squares on CDU keys

This is probably a very silly question, but why are there white squares on the E, N, S and W ? Something to do with directions, but what ?cheersMartin

My understanding that it helps to speed up key identification when you're punching in coordinates. After all, those are probably the most widely used letters on the CDU keyboard.

North, South, East & West, just in case the penny didn't drop.It took me a while to work out why these keys had an outline, too.Andy Scholes.
