FSX Wing flexing

Featured Replies

So we have all heard that FSX has incorporated much more advanced wing flexing code. So when you guys give us a sneak peak at the upgraded 747 can you add a short video showing us this new awesome feature? Thanks!Darren

Darren-The ACES team hasn't produced wing flexing "code" per se- but they have given us better animation tools for wing flex so that we will no longer have to break the wing into sections and adjust their angles in order to simulate wing flex.Inside our product code is a very sophisticated force model that continually calculates the force moments experienced by the wing at various points along the wing- and it is this code that is ultimately responsible for the flex of the wing in PMDG aircraft. The model is pretty sophisticated and includes the known properties of the materials of which the wing is made- so it is pretty high-brow stuff on the inside.Vin is just finishing the animation process that will cause all of the various control surfaces on the wing to bend and flex in conjunction with the wing structure itself (this is a VERY tedious process when you consider the complexity of the 747's lifting devices) and from what I've seen thus far it looks really nice! This feature is already built into the MD11 model that we are using in FSX- but I haven't had a chance to see it work yet.Once we have the airplane working well in the simulator- we'll be sure to show you how it looks. It should be "somthing else!"
