IAS problem

Recommended Posts

Guest techhead

I'm new to PMDG and have been learning how to "fly the glass". A problem I have encountered involves the aircraft accelerating beyond what I have set the IAS to. I have the IAS set to 250 but when I engage the autopilot after takeoff the aircraft accelerates to 530 knots. Is there something I'm missing when setting up the FMC? or have I forgotten to set the IAS properly?

Hi, (please sign your posts with your real name, forum rule)You've probably got the Throttle Control Override in the PMDG menu engaged - if that's checked, uncheck it and it should take care of it. If not let me know.

Hi "IAS problem" (please sign your name per forum guidelines). What vertical nav mode do you set on the panel (VNAV, FLT CHG, etc...)? If all you are doing is enabling the A/P without telling the aircraft how you want to manage speed, it just knows to fly the N1 engine setting. So the aircraft will just obey the A/T setting without regards to airspeed. After enabling the A/P you need to tell the aircraft how you want to climb. Select FLT CHG, VNAV or vertical speed. Personally I press FLT CHG until a few thousand feet AGL, then press Vertical Speed, setting it to the desired climb rate I want. I am sure there are others who have their method that works for them.Good luck...

Please reference the PMDG OPS Wiki- there's an article- "Care and Feeding of Auto-Throttles". If there is no spped mode annunciated on your FMA (top part of your PFD) then you have no speed control enabled- PMDG OPS is a terrific place for any PMDG driver, especially a new one...........enjoy the sickness :) !Best-Carl F.
